NFL Thread 2014-2015

RIP Seahawks. New team for the non Pats bandwagoners.

what a write off.

"I wonder can I babble enough shite that they won't think I'm an imbecile for making the worst Superb Owl decision ever."

"It was meant to be a wasted play"

Oh well. You lot wont be able to sleep, cos you will close your eyes and see that last play again and be too happy to sleep. lol

The commercials were dire this year...depressing as feck, rarely laughed at any of them....how can I watch the rest of the game knowing some kid drowned in a bathtub and wouldnt get to experience all the good things in life?

Just saw the clip of the half time show....i'm not sure if it's the lack of sleep combined with the alcohol but Katy Perry dances like the Microsoft Word paper clip animation and all the costumes reminded me of Yo Jabba Jabba or Blue's Clues or something.

They were grim. The Liam Neeson Clash of Clans and Breaking Bad "Say my name" ones were good. They are the only 2 I can remember along with the F&F trailer.

All the Seattle forums calling for the offensive coordinator Bevell to be fired. Is that realistic?

A wasted play that took 40 seconds to call....they hadn't a fecking clue.

I wanna say it's massive overreaction.

On one side, it;s the daftest Superb Owl decision ever.

Carroll says it's his though.

Then again, on the other side, had it actually come off, I guess everyone would be calling it genius to go with the unexpected.

Woah, Bruce Irvin looks like he wants to end his life and questioning not running the ball as well.

As nuts as throwing a punch at Gronk.

Yes. Fair play to Carroll for literally not throwing him under the bus and taking it on himself instead. He could of easily pushed it onto his OC given his not very good at his job status.

Shattered.... gotta sleep. Genuinely didn't think this night would end this way. I just signed up for NFL Network for the off season so I can replay it over and over. Its gonna be a great Monday! Night x

Just managed to get 2 hours sleep and on way to work.

And still cannot believe that ending!!

The decision to pass will haunt them for a long time.

As a Niners fan I still haven't gotten over our 3 pass plays called from within the 5 against the Ravens in the SB, instead of giving it to Frank Gore.

But loved seeing the Seahawks lose and throw it away :)

I still cant get over how stupid that last play was.

I really cant think of anything that is as stupid as that.

Even Carroll's reasoning is crazy - that they treated it as a throw away play / happy to waste it / wanted to run time off the clock.

No idea how trying to pass it runs time off the clock - if that is your goal then you run it.

Also, he said that he didn't feel their personel matched up favourably against the defense that the Pats had in there. Seattle were the #1 rushing offense - you have to be confident that you can pick up a yard - especially if you have 3 attempts to do it!

The other thing is that since they decided not to run it because the Pats were set up to defend the inside run...then why try to throw a quick inside slant right towards the most heavily congested area of the field. If you are determined to pass in that situation, then I have no idea why you wouldn't throw it to the flat, or at least have Wilson roll out and try and throw it )or run it in himself).

Mind blowing call.

I couldnt sleep all that much, up already. Need to watch and relive again...

I just had a look at a clip of that play again. Really is the dumbest call of all time. Especially when they have Marshawn Lynch on their side and they had Beast mode plowing through the field or Wilson scrambling for most of the night. They were somewhat reluctant to throw at times and then they throw it at the 1 yard line. Makes no sense, but I am delighted they did throw it.

Looking forward to the analysis on Gamepass this morning where they dissect that play and give Pete Carroll a shit tough time about it.

I was watching with complete novices to the game and even they knew to rush the ball.

I missed this ridiculous play from Seattle, can someone either explain what happened or post a vid?
1 yard away from end zone.
Have a beast for a running back
Decide to Throw the ball to a crowded area
Get intercepted
loose the game

Well done Patriots! I thought it was a great game with two really good teams. Was so gutted with the way we lost but never mind, hopefully the players stick together and come back stronger. I can't get the play call through my head really. It was kind of nice to see Wilson and Carrol taking responsibility after but I think it's on Bevell if you have to pick one person. That said there was a couple of other crucial 3rd down moments in the game where it was lost. Kearse not quite getting the ball in on that deep play when we were ten up. And also the non call on Lockette when he would have been wide open without getting tripped. No idea how it wasn't flagged. And of course I believe it was the next possession where NE took the lead?
Two great teams and I think we saw a really high level of football from both teams. Edelman was my MVP he was a nuisance throughout and was extremely brave on every play. I don't think Brady would have got away with not throwing at Sherman all game if he didn't have that option.

Every Seahawks fans asking the same thing, why throw it? Every Pats fan thinking, thank feck they threw it. So many emotions.

Those fan reactions!

Mine was similar to the first guy

You forgot to add that it was 2nd & Goal...so they had 3 attempts to pick up that yard.

They are dissecting every detail of the play on NFL AM now, not only the worst call in Super Bowl history but also being labelled as the worst quarterback decision in Super Bowl history.

I would imagine so I was watching ESPN and they were getting stuck in.

Australian news stations were also saying how bad it was.

Unbelievable game. That call by Pete though...

Despite everything he's said about trusting his players and managing the clock and practicing this, it's a nonsense call.

No point to try and be clever. No point to take the risk. They effectively had 3 chances to get the yard, and I inagine the percentage chances of Lynch not making it would be starting somewhere with 0.001...%.

Apparently one of the Seahawks players (unnamed) told a media journalist it could be a conspiracy - Wilson and Pete wanted their glory and for it not to be Lynch. I don't believe it but I can't fathom the call in anyway. It's bizarre.

I think the play call was bad, but after that I wouldn't lay too much at Wilsons feet. He could have checked out of the play, but I would rather give credit to Butler, who lets not forget is an undrafted rookie who by instinct detected the play and not just made a stop, but turned it over.

It being a conspiracy is of course BS, however it would not surprise me if a Seahawks player did say that. Bruce Irvin after the game looked pissed at the O-line, said he had no idea what they were thinking, what they saw out there and he didn't get why it wasn't handed off to Lynch. He hadn't spoken to Pete when he gave the interview in the locker room. Not saying it was him that spoke to a journo but I would imagine a lot of the D line was pretty pissed with the O line on the Seattle side.

@iSparky

Let's not forget just how much separation Kearse had on Butler. A good distance. And let's not forget Wilson would have known he was targeting a rookie back. I don't think the decision to make that pass was that bad, it was just an excellent excellent read and interception.

The real error though lies with the mugs on the bench who called a pass play in the first place.

Absolutely agree, the play call was bad and Wilson could have checked out but ultimately the call came from the top and that was where the big error was made, not so much with Wilson. He is taking a bit of a beating in the media this morning none the less.

Fantastic play on the ball by Butler which is being over looked too, had the pass come off people would have been praising the guts and intelligence of Wilson. Poison chalice really, it could have been a hero play or the worst play. Ended up being the worst play but it was great by Butler. Like you say, should never have been called in the first place anyway. Still don't know what they were thinking.

It was a terrible call but calling it the worst QB decision of all time is hilarious. I guess that's the drama of the Super Bowl though there has to be a villain.

As they should be. He should donate his entire salary to Marshawn Lynch's favorite charity for that play call. There's no logical reason that can explain it. It's like if Indiana Jones had tried to fist fight the Egyptian guy with the sword when he had a gun.

True story, he originally was meant to and they had an elaborate scene choreographed. However, that day he felt Harrison Ford felt extremely ill, so they just shot him instead.
