NFL Thread 2013-14

Tebow fails to make the cut. So long Tim.

Ahh well, suppose he was worth the punt.

I wonder where he goes from here? Surely no one will give him a chance as a QB.

I'm glad the Pats have kept Mallett. There was talk he may get traded when we got Tebow but good to see he'll still be there as backup.

I reckon Tebow's days in the NFL are over. I mean who would really want him?

I just can't see him as QB in the NFL now, if he has to stay QB, the CFL, maybe?

Ballard gone too, along with another TE, assume that means Gronkowski is recovering well enough.

Are buffalo having QB issues at the moment?

Hopefully Gronk isn't rushed back, let him take as long as he needs to fully recover.

Yep. They will start an undrafted free agent in week 1. The first time that has been done since the 1950s, I believe.

Well if they are desperate they can always sign Tebow...

I think Manuel should return soon enough so it may not be the best idea to get Timmy & the circus that follows him. Would be funny though if he joined them and started against the Pats in week 1.

Sources reporting that the pats have cut Mesko, what the feck?

That means rookie Allan gets the punting job.

Not Zoltan!!! The new punter is meant to be quite good.

Surely be on the PUP to week 6 at least? I guess Hoomanawanui and Sudfeld are going to be enough for now.
Apparently he's on the roster not the PUP list.

Of course cutting Mesko frees up the the salary cap room a bit.

Tebow will have to swallow his stupid pride if he wants to remain in the NFL, which means willing to play other roles and not have this QB fantasy he covets.

I can envision Buffalo considering claiming him off waivers or bringing him in a for a trial after Week 1, depending on the health of their QBs. Not sure what other clubs are hurting at QB depth. Perhaps the Jags pick him up to sell tickets.

Yet tapes that supposedly had NOTHING ON THEM were destroyed. That's odd. I understand you Patriots fans live in Liverpool land in regards to it but fans of other clubs living in the real world see it oddly.

Why would practice films not be given? Were they destroyed by the Pats brass? Or are we to believe it never happened?

Johnny Manziel got a half-game suspension and yet we all know he took cash for autographs. Granted it's NCAA and they're corrupt and fecked up more so than the NFL but the huge fine, loss of picks, etc. shows something was up. Harsh penalties for something that really didn't happen.

I have to admit, I’m confused by this post. Not sure where you’re getting the Liverpool land or living in the real world stuff from either, certainly not from me. My thoughts are pretty much the same as they were at the time. Stealing teams signals was not invented by the Patriots, which is why the league sent out the memo to all teams in 2006 and coaches like Jimmy Johnson and Dick Vermeil made the comments they did. Teams knew it was happening, which is why they change their signals. Belichick was rightly fined after ignoring the memo and trying to use a technicality to break the rules. Especially after the memo was sent.

Tapes with nothing on them weren't destroyed and harsh penalties weren't given for something that didn't happen. Tapes of opponents defensive signals were destroyed, which Goodell decided to fine the Patriots for. Some footage of the original Jets tape was shown at the time. Not sure of the merits of releasing the rest to the public but that’s the decision he made.

The Rams Superdome based walk-through, not full a full practice, is a separate issue and one off claim. From months after the Spygate story. Like I said, the Matt Walsh (he met with Goodell and a random US Senator), Herald reports were pretty much discredited. The Herald later apologised for their report on Super Bowl weekend and admitted they never saw a tape. Mike Martz also released a statement on the issue.

If what we’re saying is Goodell met Walsh or someone else, took the Rams walkthrough tape without telling the public and made him and the Boston Herald etc keep quiet and sweep it under the rug; it’s based on nothing but rumour or fan speculation. Not the real world.

I have seen nothing in this or last years pre-season games to indicate any decent GM would be right to give the Patriots back more than their initial investment in Mallett. A third rounder. He has a strong arm but has not connected deep with any regularity and his short and intermediate accuracy has not improved either. The stat line flatters him in terms of completions this pre season, there was plenty of throwing behind or ahead of people. Preventing them from picking up YAC or nearly getting them killed. He has talent though and there’s a chance he could progress like Cassel did with consistent weapons and regular season game planning. Just haven’t seen it yet.

The Raiders season looks like it could be a car crash.. No standout QB and Veldheer one of our few quality players is injured. I suspect Pryor will be getting chances sooner rather than later as he stands a chance of avoiding rushers.

I think i read that only one of our front 7 on defense played for us last season and 40% of our cap space is taken up by penalties.

Brian Waters is back. The Cowboys OL problems continue so they signed him to a one-year contract worth $1.5m plus up to $3m in incentives. It's that bad in Dallas that they sign a 36-year old guard.

Broncos need to show why they are one of the favorites for this season tomorrow by beating the defending champs.

Really looking forward to the NFL starting tonight.

Hate the Thursday games though.

Will Svitek remains the only player not present at practice. Gronk getting some reps. Looks comfortable back out there, catching some passes

Gronk back on the field

Really can't wait to have Gronk back. With all the receivers that have come and gone, it will be nice to have someone there who understands the system and has been successful so far. Just hope we aren't rushing him back.

Loved when he did this during the Wembley game a couple seasons back:

This has to be my favourite Gronk TD :D

Anyone interested in a weekly pickem league? Keep tabs of weekly records and see who scores most points over 17 weeks. I propose either a typical win-loss system or 7 pts per win. Up to 16 games per week.

Suicide league? Basically, a person selects a game every week that you deem a "lock" and you keep playing until your selection loses. Each person must pick a separate game and no skipping weeks. However, this could be a logistical nightmare online so we would have to establish rules, i.e. selections are made between (ex.) 1200-1800 GMT, each Wednesday, thus ensuring people login. Also, no selecting beyond the current week's slate of games. Last man/woman standing is the champ.
