NFL Thread 2013-14

It's a good thing the Jets won or I think I would've flown to New York and punched Rex Ryan in the face for not going for 2 on that last Jets touchdown.

Freeman to the Vikings on a 1 year deal.

Surprised they signed him, especially since their coach still says Ponder is the starter if healthy and given how Cassel performed when he played.

Well, Freeman is better than both of them and he's still young. But they better damn well draft a QB early next draft. Because if we believe NOW that Freeman is our QB of the future, then someone needs to get his head examined. I'd like to see him AND a high draft pick rookie battle it out, maybe have the rookie "learn" behind him for a while.

I think it's pretty clear that Ponder ain't the guy. Cassel is a backup, and he's proven he's no more than that before. I like the signing. Freeman needs to learn the playbook though, which is probably why the coaching staff is sticking with Ponder. Frazier is old school and a nice guy (too nice sometimes), so it wouldn't suprise me if he has this notion that injuries shouldn't cost you the job. But Ponders leash is millimeters in length now. He's the lowest paid quarterback on the roster and I'd almost rather we just cut him now to be honest. He's had plenty of time to show any sort of progress, but he's still skittish in the pocket, inaccurate, stares down his receivers and throws an uuuuugly deep ball. Bye CP7, good luck in the future backing up a real QB somewhere.

However, Gonzalez/Roddy fantasy owners will be getting points, even if the Falcons won't. Sucks for Julio, and I was really hoping that the Falcons would make a run for the SuperBowl and give Tony a good sending off into retirement. I guess he could always come back for another season? :)

3 Wembley games next year.

Atlanta, Jacksonville & Oakland the 'home' teams.

Are these proper competitive games being played in England?

What do the yanks think of this?

Surely it is not fair on the home team, as the are losing a home fixture.

I would die a little inside if this happened in football.

Could get traded, perhaps to the Chiefs, they're looking good....

Interesting, might go to one of them, been wanting to go for years.

Yeah it's a great chance for fans to get to go to a game. Depending on the opponent I'd be interested in attending a game.

I wonder if they'll sell out all 3 and whether they keep 3 games for Wembley beyond next year or look to expand to other countries too? A full-blown expansion into Europe and beyond, where 1 team plays 1 game abroad each season, may be a future possibility instead of having a permanent London team. Need to get LA sorted first though.

3 games next season in London, per the story on the beeb today.
It's weird to me that NFL would be that popular in the UK.

Nah, I think Tony G will stay with the Falcons. Didn't he say something along the lines of "I'll only come back for the Falcons" when he retired and unretired after last season?

he was at the chiefs for quite a while iirc 12 years or so, (just looked it up).
I was at his last college game back in the day. Was Mariucci's last one too, I think; Cal v Stanford back in the later 90s.

Okay, so I recently have started to attend a Sunday 'Football' night at a mates house. I've always had a slight interest in Football, but I get lost when it comes to remember players/form/who's got good offenses/defenses and what not... anyway, they've asked me join in with their weekly predictor thing, so this week, based on my minimal knowledge I've gone:Bears, Packers, Bengals, Browns, Texans, Chiefs, Vikings, Steelers, Eagles, Titans, Patriots, 49ers, Cowboys, Colts... so calling all experts, are any of those picks totally ridiculous?

Yeah the Titans obviously have no chance against the Seahawks.

The Steelers will turn it around though I think, they have some decent weapons on offence, and their defence can't continue to be as bad as they have been. They just need to establish some semblance of a running game.

Giants

Elite Manning :lol::lol:

15 Picks for the season already! 10 games to go...

Im 54 from 77 (just over 70%) of my picks this season, i play the expert picks game on nfluk.com and none of the experts have more than 54 so im doing not too bad, anyone else play it?

This week ive gone for...

Packers, Seahawks, 49ers, Jets, Saints, Vikings, Chiefs, Texans, Broncos, Browns, Bills, Bucs, Cowboys and Chargers

(Already had the Bears thursday night too)

Gronk not playing again according to a journalist on twitter. Apparently team-mates are now questioning him about why he doesn't play given how he trains in the week and this is causing some tension.

I'm all for Gronk taking his time, but if he's medically clear then he should be available to play. Maybe not start, but a few snaps and then build from there each week. We need him back, particularly in the RedZone.

I've said it before and will say it again - if Eli is a HOFer because his team won two Super Bowls, when does Jim Plunkett receive his enshrinement?

Out of interest who's claiming he's a HOF'er? The only people I can see going in out of this generation of QB's (not talking about Luck etc), is Peyton, Brady and possibly Brees (who could end up with another ring this year, Saints seem to be going under a lot of peoples radars due to Seahawks and Bronco's)

Oh it's been spouted off/stated by plenty of pundits, commentators, media personalities. The main two reasons 1) he plays for New York, and b) both times they beat the team of the current era. although a third reason 3) could be he's a Manning which is NFL gold when it comes to HOF votes.

The three you mention are probably locks although Brees is on the bubble IMO but he's clearly better than Eli. Kurt Warner may be deserving, McNabb not a chance. Rodgers will at the current rate.
