I don't think the system was the problem in LA either to be honest; he's just an average QB who needs a perfect supporting cast and coaching staff around him in order to succeed. And unfortunately for Goff, the DET supporting cast is likely to be among the league's worst next season, and I'm not so sure the coaching staff will be that great either.

The Lions have very good receivers Jones and Golladay are very good, if they keep Golladay, and Swift looked decent on the few occasions that I have seen him. I don't know what a regular follower like @Eboue thinks but for me the Lions are underrated, they have talent but were poorly coached.

I think Jones and Golladay are Free Agents though, and I was working under the assumption that they weren't coming back.

I also think their best Edge Rusher (Romeo Okwara) is a FA too.
 
Nah they aren't good. Defense is horrible and the offense is potentially losing its two best players.

Amendola and Jones are over the hill and Golladay is a free agent. We've spent tons of draft capital on the offensive line and they're still not good. The Lions are going to be bad this year regardless of what they do. They should accept it and not flip a bad contract if it costs a draft pick. Just ride out another year, hopefully Goff is decent then try and flip him to a desperate team. I think this time next year he's an asset and a team that is in the position that Washington is now, will be interested in trading for him.

They should stay put at 7, draft Wilson or Fields if they fall and just go best player available if not. They are basically guaranteed to get one of the top 3 qbs or one of the top 3 receivers.

If another great WR gets drafted by Detroit I think I’m gonna cry.
 
Unless Houston gets the Miami pick in a Wilson trade, one of Wilson or Fields is gonna be available at #7 I think.

The Dolphins, Falcons, Bengals and Eagles are not gonna draft a QB, and I think Miami still has confidence in Tua.
 
Fair enough Eboue you know them better. And your plan is sound, hopefully they follow a similar one.

I wouldn't rule the Falcons out from drafting a QB. They could draft Wilson/Fields/Lance, sit him for a year, and then trade Ryan this time next year when his contract is less of a liability.

I think that could be their plan. They can’t bank on drafting this high again. Besides if one of the top 2 ’other’ QBs falls to 5-6 then Carolina, Denver, and maybe San Fran will be on the phone to jump in line.

Lance will be the only QB available there (edit: at 7)

Yeah, tend to agree here, don't see them picking #4 or better any time soon given that Ryan should be a really good fit in Smith's offense. If they think one of those three QBs is elite, they may as well draft them as 10-15 years of an elite QB is better than 5 years of Ryan plus 5-10 years of uncertainty at the QB position.
 
The Dolphins eternal search for an OC continues to rumble on. Will they wait a month to announce an internal promotion? Or are they waiting on someone from the Super Bowl?

I believe every other OC job has been filled? Think we have had something like 5 OCs in 5 years, maybe its cursed like the Defense Against The Dark Arts job and nobody wants it.

I think a run-based offence which has an inventive play-action game. Effectively how the Rams played in 18, which was possible because of a player like Gurley. I think Goff can make good intermediate length throws. He isn’t someone who can handle a west coast type scheme or a dink dunk scheme because he simply isn’t consistent enough or aggressive enough. It needs to be run first with relatively simple concepts.
So basically, a very simple trimmed down offence which would only succeed with the right players.

I don't know if I believe in the sincerity of that statement but he is better than most people pretends, myself included. I don't think that he and his contract are the ideal fit for the Vikings though.

He is indeed but I'm skeptical whether it makes a difference in the end. Neither the new Falcons GM nor the HC are from Georgia so I don't think they'll have a hometown bias although they are both from the South so maybe they have a Southern bias?

It seems we're trying to move on from Jimmy but not trying too hard which is typical Lynch. He'll either be traded to the Pats for a 5th or released, yes.

But we also had quite a few turnovers second half (and were a top 10 defence overalll which resulted in packers going 3 and out

That was the bigger issue (and the failed red zone attempts) where you can now ask why didn't they get Rodgers an extra target to throw to instead of an unused QB who wasn't highly sought after ?

Valid points. For one, he wasn't appointed by MLF, so probably coach wants a change. Two, tactically in both NFCCG games (last year and this), our D has been found wanting. Three, D has been up and down and not really consistent. Letting in points and then expecting AR12 to pull the team is what we've doing with Dom Capers, see no reason to do the same again.

It certainly wasn't due to that one TD, but minor stuff stacking up. He certainly has improved our D in last 2 years. I sometimes feel, our defensive drafts/FAs are never comprehensive. If we had better run blocking ILB's...maybe things would have been difference.

It's not hype if you are talking about actual interest and when we talk about the 49ers we are talking about his former OC at Washington with which he had a pretty good offense. And his lucrative contract had more to do with the Vikings urgently needing a competent QB after losing Bridgewater due to his knee injury and Cousins being the best free agent that year.
It's also worth mentioning that the Vikings have had a top 10 offense(DVOA) in the last two seasons, the Oline, the defense and the inability to stop the run have been the issue not Cousins.

Now is Cousins going to win you games by himself? No, which is why his contract is a problem, under different circumstances he would be a good enough QB.

Cousins has always come up short in big games. He earns at nearly at par with Rodgers who has shouldered a weak D and inept coach for few years and still shone.

If he had been with Bucs in place of Brady, they'd have missed the playoffs.

You are confusing being overpaid and being overhyped/overrated. Cousins isn't Rodgers or Brady but not being them doesn't make you overrated, his contract had nothing to do with them, the Vikings didn't had the opportunity to offer contracts to Rodgers and Brady, they had Keenum, McCarron and the likes of McCown. And in free agency, you will overpay because more often than not teams with cap space will try to get an edge.

Cousins is widely seen as an average QB between the 10th and 15th best.

There's little interest in any of this from United fans, unless of course they also happen to be NFL fans, but still there's little to no interest in the Bucs because of the Glazers owning United.
 
The decision not to hand it to Lynch was the right one.
