The feck are the Raiders thinking offering a 10 year contract worth $100m to Gruden?
It’ll be quite expensive when they have to fire him in three years.

People believe this crap?

The 2 closest beat writers to the Pats - in terms of those who interact with players - Reiss and Kyed have both laughed off the story in its entirety.

They're basically embedded reporters...if either had written the piece then their access would have been revoked, so I wouldn't put any stock in their denials.

Anything criticising Guerrero/Brady's bullish*t psudo science performance programme is fine by me.

Anyhow a random change in topic...

I just watched Superbowl XLVII (don’t ask me why...) again.

It’s a real shame what happened to Kaepernick. He wasn’t just a runner that season. Some of the passes in this game were incredible.

Still have that game taped somewhere. He could easily have been a SB winner, had a fantastic stretch.

 what the actual feck?

The Express wanted to make a statement by signing Young (then a very hot property) to a 40 year $40m contract. Trouble was, they couldn't afford to pay any of it up front so Young agreed to have it paid to him as a 40 year annuity at $1m a year. The USFL folded a couple of years later and Young is still collecting until 2025.

10 years 100m  surely no one is that stupid

Dallas has doled out ten-year contracts twice - in 1964 to Tom Landry (did well) and in 1989 to Jimmy Johnson (did quite well).

The dollar amounts were nowhere near the Gruden figures even with inflation factored in. Johnson's initial deal was for $5M/10 years and was later raised to $1M per year after the first SB win.

Obviously. I’m still irritated about the trade and if the Pats shouldn’t get so lucky to find another franchise QB soon, this one will come back to seriously bite them. They had a chance to have a transition like Montana to Young or Favre to Rodgers and screwed it up.

And regarding a decline of Brady, I’m convinced it’s happening right now. We’re seeing it. It’ll just take a while for people to realize.

The 49ers only transitioned to Young because Montana was injured for two years and Young won the MVP in the second year. It was clear as day that Young was the man by that time and Montana was possibly too far damaged goods to carry on. Nothing remotely similar to the current Pats situation.

Favre stuck around for three seasons of constant "I might retire/I might return" yo-yo bullshit with Packers management. They finally pulled the plug but about two years past due. Not exactly a true transition in such.

The 2 closest beat writers to the Pats - in terms of those who interact with players - Reiss and Kyed have both laughed off the story in its entirety.

On one hand, beat writers will withhold detrimental stuff in order to not lose their access/jobs. On the other hand, beat writers may also be totally honest in some aspects and this could be the case.

That said, the Cowboys had tons of turmoil and tension going on from 93-95 and it didn't stop them from winning. Many didn't know about this as local writers didn't know/tell the public. It started coming out after Jimmy was fired and really came out when Skip wrote that book in 1996 and Irvin's legal woes. Aikman fecking despised Switzer and his lazy attitude and lack of discipline.

It did partially help end the dynasty by 97ish mostly due to inept management in the front office (bad drafting the biggest problem) and weak coaching/discipline. The two things that would not have occurred with Jimmy still running the show (ala Billy).

This Pats thing is nonsense. Financially/cap reasons there was no way they could keep both QBs beyond 2017, and there was no way they were shunning the man that had just brought his team back to win the SB to insert an untested youngster. Had NE lost the SB, especially if the second half had gone the same as the first half, then yes it could be conceivable that Bill/management would have made the move to the next franchise QB.

Completely agree - loved watching Kap during that time.

A couple of games standout - his playoff game against the packers where he rushed for 181 yards - including that insane 50+yd TD run! The Packers were so shell-shocked that they spent the entire off-season practicing defending the read-option and how to contain him. In the season opener, Kap responded by passing for 412 yards!!

I also remember the playoff game against the Packers played in sub-zero conditions. Kap came out in shortsleeves and no undershirt!

I'm still so disappointed that we didn't win the SB that year. I cannot believe, that in a game where Gore had 110 yards rushing, and was averaging 5.7 yards per carry...that on 1st & Goal from the Raven's 7 he did not get a single carry - and that included 3 incomplete passes. We should have rode Gore into the end zone.

Dammit!!

EDIT - just saw from a facebook post that that sub-zero game was 4 years ago today!

He was so fast that season - would get 10 yards in the blink of an eye.

EDIT 2

A couple more!

It is criminal that Kap is not on a roster.

Agree - it’s ridiculous when you look at some of the starters in the league. And even more when you think he isn’t even on as a backup somewhere.

Almost time for playoff football!!

My predictions: KC, Rams, Jags, Saints - the NFC games could go either way, difficult to call but I'm going with the home teams to edge both games.

Complete joke & we all know it’s for non-football reasons he’s not in the league.

Falcons instead of Rams for me. Agree with the rest.

Chiefs, Rams, Bills and Saints for me.

Murray ruled out for tonight, I expect Henry to run riot now.

Won't be watching this one live but should be fairly interesting. Either will be cannon-fodder for the pats though.

Yeah but massive success or massive failure?

He's inheriting a good team - good QB, receivers, capable RB and a defensive player of the year. More than enough for Chucky to work his magic.

Gruden will probably get a top defensive player in round 1. Hearing a lot of Roquan Smith references.

Had to make that catch. If chiefs score on this drive, might be game over.

The worst thing for me was Shermans last gasp defending in the championship game the following year. Broke my heart.

It was!

The sad thing was I was almost expecting a flag!

For a high hit? Would have been bullshit but yea you can see them doing it can't you.

I thought the Titans were lucky to be honest, it looked a fumble to me.

Shit Kelce is fecked, no way he should stay in.
