Nfl 2010-2011

Good to see Lamar Houston getting a couple of sacks. We need DHB and McFadden to play well this season.

Jets vs Giants on ESPN America for anyone interested. Sanchez throws a INT on his first throw.

O and Westbrook gone to 49ers. How many quarters before he's injured? I'm going for 8.

If our line is everything we hope it will be (and that's a big if) we could probably get him to last 6-8 games.

He'll be a backup so he's not going to get nearly the same workload he did last year, especially since Gore isn't one to give up carries unless he's hurt.

Come to think of it I think Westbrook-Gore was one of my fantasy starting running back lineups last year.

he'll be best used in the passing game.

I agree. And with the amount of times that Gore gets used as a receiver out of the backfield, it won't require any playbook adjustments to pull that off.

I wonder if the team might even try to put both on the field at the same time.

We might want to hold him out of the nutcracker drills though.

Favre returning for one final season with the Vikings. No suprise really, he had a very good season last year and the Vikings are Superbowl contenders.

No matter what he says or his backers claim, I'll say Favre took the money.

$16m plus an additional $4m in incentives. That's why he came back. What's $20m for a busted ankle anyhow?

Great to see that Welker returned for the Pats against the Falcons. If he stays fit, Pats have good passing options with Welker, Moss and Edelman as the main threats. Not sure about the defense with Warren being put on IR, but I'm sure Belichick will work something out.

Watched the game a couple of times now and I am more excited about the increased physicality and use of the tight ends. It's only pre-season and they are rookies but maybe Brady has a legitimate weapon in that area for the first time. This is a transition that was needed due to the schemes of the Jets and Dolphins and that the spread offense is becoming predictable, it tended to come unstuck in pressure situations last year. More play action please.

Also, Devin McCourty's physicality and cover skills are starting to become apparent. The re-routing of Roddy White on that third down play as well as his tackling in the open field is causing movement in my boxers.

Agreed Keyser. Both Gronk and Hernandez look physical, and can maybe become a more consistent Benjamin Watson.

Through playing this year, you can really appreciate how much work needs to go into this game.

I cant really be arsed until the regular season starts. Until then real football dominates my weekends.

Oh and college football is miles better then the NFL anyways!

I preferred college 20 years ago compared to nowadays, dont get me wrong but it has basically become the NFL Light, they used to play so differently, and still do to some degree but gone are the days fo the option and wishbone replaced by the spread formation similar to what you see in the NFL. Both are still great though and I cant wait for them to come back on. :D

Well, I meant.. 4 throws, 1 hit. Did pretty well.

Yeah I'm really excited about the pass rush. Minnesota's line isn't brilliant but it's not bad either and Indy's was pretty good last year and I think we got more sacks on Manning than anyone else did.

Our D-Line does a very good job of occupying blockers and the 3-4 lets our linebackers come flying in from completely unpredictable directions. Tavaris Jackson took quite a few shots yesterday from our second-stringers as well once Favre left the game so there's some serious depth.

Hopefully it's good enough to mask the lack of depth we have in the secondary.

Packers ran riot on the Colts yesterday, Rodgers was brilliant and it's always nice to see Peyton get irritated at the officials and then the next drive fumble the ball.

Pats lost, but Brady's numbers were fantastic (18-22, 3TD's) and the Rams rookie QB looked good. Pats really need to find some sort of a running game and hope the defense does better than it has done recently.

I think the Patriots will be the same as last season - beat the weak teams and lose to the stronger teams. They may squeak a wild card. They are wasting the remainder of Brady's prime, however. I thought Belichick would have gotten the defense up to scratch by now.

There was clearly an emphasis on the running game and physicality in the first two games I thought ha Rooney and they looked good doing it. I would not read too much into last nights game in that regard as it seemed they intentionally decided to move away from the running game and get some timing work in on the passing game. While they frequently lined up with two tight ends on the line and sometimes a full back in the Saints and Atlanta games, this game had more spread and three wide receiver formations. I agree it will be important moving forward though, with the schedule they have it will be needed to close games against the more talented teams.

The defence? Very disappointing, yes it was mainly a Vanilla scheme and it is the pre-season but you still have to win the one on one battles against a team like the Rams. Butler, McCourty and Chung took a step backwards after impressive work throughout the offseason. The Gronk dragging the second year Ohio State linebacker (forgot his name?!) into the end zone like a disobedient child was one of the few things to make me smile.

has nayone seen any of the eagles games?
how has kolb faired? his numbers don't look good ubt is that his fault or is the line giving him no protection?

Leigh Bodden is out for the season, that secondary is going to be very up and down and get lit up at times this season. The talent is there but not the experience or leadership – Brandon Meriweather is one of the most overrated players in the league in my opinion, he needs to step up. I don’t see the Patriots being a serious contender this year after this news and the Warren injury, unless there is remarkably consistent play from all the young players in December onwards. Brady will likely still keep them in the 9-11 win range during the regular season though and the team will go as far as he takes them.

Has anyone seen ay of the Hard Knocks series? I have been watching the Bengals one from last year and they are amazingly good bits of tv. They are produced by HBO, so they are not the usual sanitised view of professional sports.

Def recommend watching them if you can download them. It appears as though each year they pick a new team to follow through training camp. The Bengals one was really good so next will watch the one from this season which features the Jets.

Still hoping they choose to do one on the 49ers......

Big blow. I hate giving up big plays as it is, but with a injured D, it's gonna happen more and more.
