Neymar

It's the same for Neymar to be honest. I'm sure he'll be revered after he's retired. Has Ronaldinho's flair and near-Messi production combined with Ronaldo's likeability. He's a greater footballer than Ronaldinho though in my opinion though (and Ronaldinho's probably one of my favourite players to have watched ever).
The likeability is simply not there. Ronaldinho was likeable, R9 was likeable but Neymar isn't. Reasons being his antics on and off the pitch. But, purely as a footballer he is spectacular and has that genius about him. Injuries and bad decisions means that he has been unable to translate that into success.

As far as greatness is concerned, Ronaldinho will always be considered greater for those 3 extraordinary seasons at Barcelona and the integral part he played in the 2002 world cup win for Brazil. Interms of talent, they are similar.

To be clear, I meant Cristiano Ronaldo's likeability i.e. none.

I don’t think he will. When Neymar retires, people will look at his numbers and his highlight reels and consider that he was the better player with greater longevity. Neymar is criminally underrated in his time simply because he’s not liked as a person. He made a bad move going to France but he’s still a phenomenal player at the age of 31 and may have a renaissance if he chooses his next move wisely. I can’t stand the bloke personally, but he’s a ridiculously talented footballer.

Are PSG being stripped bare? Messi is gone, possibly Mbappe and now Neymar too?

Project is dying. 10 years of failure in the CL, only twice making it past the quarters, has broken Qatar's patience.

Heeeeeh not sure I agree. I don't think you hire Luis Enrique, half a dozen players and possibly a whole new attack line (Ramos done, Dembélé advanced, Kolo Muani agreeing on personal terms) to give up.

The Neymar - Mbappé - Messi era was a failure as far as the football side & CL winning project is going. More inconsistent than the previous iteration of the team despite heavy costs.

I think it's auspicious Neymar wants out too, hope he gets his wish.
Mbappé is the only one I would still gladly keep around for 12 months even to lose him on a free (I expect he'll move this window though).

I have my doubts Nasser learned his lesson and will allow Luis Enrique enough breathing space to build something. Dembélé and Hernandez are very injury prone as well. It will still be Circus FC but maybe more manageable than having the 3 biggest elephants in the locker room bar CR7.

Feck it I know this is madness but maybe with concern around Hojlund gametime we should give PSG a loan offer with option to buy

Balon dor is the premier individual accolate that a player can win. Kaka 07, Ronaldinho 05, Rivaldo 99, Ronaldo 97, all won the accolade at the peak of their footballing careers. Their individual seasons being better than anything Neymar has done (when not being a hanger on under peak Messi). Neymar hasnt won a balon ndor Nor has he won a world cup with brasil, unlike the others listed who have.
Kaka shouldn't have won it in 07. He wasn't even the best player in the Serie A that season (Totti was), basically didn't play in the domestic cups and didn't play in Copa America. The award was purely because of the CL, where the AC Milan vs Utd match had the big media hype of a showdown with Ronaldo to prove who was better despite Utd having a huge injury toll and Ronaldo himself struggling with an injured foot. In reality Ronaldo was better over the season, and that was in his first top season. Meanwhile Neymar at his peak had to compete with an even better version of Ronaldo and Messi. Kaka obviously wouldn't have won a Balon dor against that combo either.

Qatar slowly downsizing in Paris for the takeover of a better project that is United.

Cristiano Ronaldo's likeability maybe. Also Ronaldinho during his two Ballond D'or years at Barca was easily, and I repeat, EASILY, a better player than any version of Neymar.

Teams just need to check whether his sister’s birthday clashes with an important fixture before signing him.

Nearly everyone i have spoken to on Neymar would like to see him in the premiership, but nobody wants to see there club sign him....even West Ham and Newcastle fans, which surprises me

Agree with 2007 that Ronaldo was better over the course of 06/07. But I'll also add that, when fit, Messi was better.

The irony in this is that Ronaldo later on won the ballond'or based purely on his goals in the champions league.

Repeat it a million times if you like, it won't make it true.

Better player? Maybe. "Easily better" is either you living in nostalgia or you have a gripe with Neymar.

Could see him being another Sanchez for any Prem team who goes for him. 31 and injured. Hope I’m wrong.

It's just the injuries, makes it a no go for me.

Although it would be amusing if he came here to watch all those on here who drastically underrate him change their tune when he was our best player.

Is veratti still good?

Yes. Mercurial, has discipline issues (if you can call not keeping to his fitness schedule that), an history of injuries.
Would take him in a heartbeat but maybe more as an impact sub or luxury rotation option for a top club (which are the only ones that can afford him).

If you guys thought Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo were bringing circus and held the team back, oh boy you’re in for a show with Neymar and Verratti

Still a fine player but it feels Ten Hag is finally building to a squad all on the same wavelength without the same egos in the way, throwing Neymar into the middle of build and everything with him is probably not worth it. Would be a good signing for Chelsea I reckon, they have a young team and plenty of players that would do the running for him.

Couldn't agree more, peak Ronaldinho is only comparable to peak Messi. Neymar is not on the same planet.

As great as he is and despite being younger than Ronaldo, after seeing Ronaldo’s return to United I am not going to fall for this again. Neither will ETH, thankfully he will not end up at United.

Neymar in the PL would be absolutely infuriating, both for the teams that will face him when fit (he's guaranteed to score at least a crazy banger) and for his employer.

PL levels of engagement probably not the best choice for someone so prone to injuries though.

We have a history of players who were high profile who caused us various issues. We shouldn’t be afraid of that if the quality is there. Cantona was a bigger risk ok the figures don’t compare but the clubs situation does. I’m not saying Neymar but in general we seem to be swaying towards being a Newcastle when it comes to fear of bringing them in. Being the main man at United can elevate them as well who knows.
