The overreaction by some of you lot is funny

What's wrong with making an enquiry? Where has it said anywhere that we made a bid? What's wrong with talking to his agent to find out if the player would fancy it?

All we have to do is meet the release clause..
What is his release clause, just out of interest?

I guess the reason LVG didn't rule it out yesterday because he wants the press to exhaust this story. Meanwhile it takes the spotlight off of our poor result and maybe gives them time to get a deal done for another player.

 feck that!
If we pay it, our net spent would be 147m pounds.

We have the money to do so, but it would be a very risky signing. Anyway, I doubt that Neymar would want to leave even if we pay his clause. Which we won't.

That's not even three Raheem Sterlings! Pay it Woody! Make this a Done Dealio!

Some people in United management messed up a simple transfer deal for Pedro. He was a player Barca board was willing to sell, and somehow this management messed it up. The same team messed up Cesc transfer as well and before that you paid more for Fellaini than it was required. Possibly Thiago was also a blunder. Somehow the management, the CEO messed up some really simple transfers from Barca where the board was willing to sell the players.
I doubt this team can handle something complicated like Neymar when Barca don't want to sell. Every Barca player that United targeted has made the team/CEO look immature in transfer business.

Out of interest, if Neymar did join Manchester United this week, what would that make Woodward?

Thiago wasn't wanted by Moyes, while apparently LVG didn't want Fabregas (not sayint that we would have got them if we really wanted them).

On Pedro, Barca said many times that we didn't made a bid for him, or that we were discussing his signing. It might have been that we were interested on him, but it might have easily been a media invention. After all, it was as a straightforward transfer as it could be. Just pay 22m pounds, which was less than what we have payed under this regime for Mata, Fellaini, Shaw, Herrera, Di Maria and Schneiderlin, so no big trouble there.

Neymar is just a joke. How anyone can think that there is anything else than just the usual bullocks of a joke of newspaper is beyond me.

Every Barca player that some shit newspapers linked with United, made the people who believe it to be lool like idiots instead.

Fabregas wasn't close at any point when Moyes was in charge and LVG stopped the deal when he came in year after. With Thiago there wasn't anything concrete, the most concrete thing was him signing an United ball for some fan. So out of the 3 only Pedro stands out, other two never really lifted from the ground so to say.
Also I heard Pedro's agent said we didn't show any real interest. I might be wrong but that's what I read somewhere.

Do we really wanna be spending this much on a backup to Memphis?

Or Young?

Ooooh you can't say that.

The top.reds won't be happy.

Seriously this thread has caused so much mirth. I would suggest you stop. ;)

Edit: here's one for example: Neymar is hopeful Man Utd interest is genuine. He's always wanted to work with Mourinho.

And so on. :)

I believe the club on this. Even Mourinho went on record saying he did not compete with us to sign Pedro. Moreso, it was most probably his agent feeding media trying to drum up interest from an elite club for his client, who was desperate for the move.

Personally Im glad we did not sign Pedro, I'd rather Memphis, Januzaj and Wilson get the game time. I don't think Pedro was a significantly better option than what we have on the books. Others may disagree and thats fine but in the end ,despite considering him, I think thats what LVG decided.

As for Neymar .... I've tried to sign him loads of times in football manager and failed, so if this rumour is true and Woodward pulls it off - wow, simply wow! Likewise, I don't have a problem with the club going after the best players on the planet. we may get turned down, like we have done for De Gea with Madrid BUT sometimes it works, like Ronaldo to Real Madrid or like when we signed Ferdinand, Rooney and Berbatov.

You seem to be well aware of the intricacies that went in each of the transfers. Fair enough if you do know that's how all of it went which I very much doubt.

Why do the papers actually report this? No United fan I've spoken to believes it and I doubt anyone else does. Is it just to keep Neymar's agent sweet in the hope of getting inside info later? Or are they just fools who will print what they're told/what the manatees tell them to print (South Park reference)?

Definitely. In fact, I would be dissapointed if we don't at-least try to get the best players.

About Pedro, I would have preferred us to sign him. But considering that the club said that we weren't going for him, Mourinho said that they didn't cmpete with us, Barca people said a few times that they weren't talking with us for him and apparently his agent said that we didn't contact him it looks very likely that he was just an another Gaitan.

Believe it or not, there are people (both United fans and fans of other clubs) who believe it. And they have the ability to click web pages.

Nevertheless you can expect 'we were dithering over few million and 'woody is an idiot' posts.

He can say it, unfortunately most of it is wrong.

I must buy a pair of those red tinted spectacles some of you are wearing.

Unless you think @CLARiiON (a Barca fan) has an agenda against United? Which seems to be the default response to anyone that dare criticise/say something negative about United.

Like it or not, we're a bit of a laughingstock to opposition fans. Don't believe me? Just ask them.

My god. Did I say he has an agenda? No I didn't.I simply stated what parts of his post are wrong. Don't be so melodramatic.
We are a laughing stock? Cause we didn't get Pedro. Wow. Why do you care what do opposition fans think anyway. Opposition fans would gladly find even the smallest thing to laugh at us, its sad some United fans are like that too, trying to find anything to point out we're a 'laughing stock...

The same Barca whose players used United's name to get better contact/generate interest from other clubs?

I wish I'd become a tabloid sports journalist. Can just spend all day playing 'Football Manager' then making up a story "United to make bid for......" then I guess it's off to the pub.
What a way to earn a living.

Hard to believe this thread has got 3 more pages since i last looked this afternoon.

Hahaha never give up muppets, live long and prosper.

Who the feck gives a shit?

We have improved the midfield and defense, and we have made a good start of the season. It has been proven multiple times since LVG and Woody have been working together that when we want a player,we do it fast and the media generally have no idea what is happening (see Herrera, Falcao, Darmian). Where were Sun and co. when we were signing Darmian? Linking us with the likes of Clyne, then Coleman and Fabinho.

English journos have no fecking clue what is going at United. Which was something that people here were begging to happen when we were under Moyes and everything was leaked. But I guess that some people just love to moan for whatever reasons.

Where do you people come from?

Most of @CLARiiON post was speculation and rubbish and was called out.

Having a bias is one thing, some here do defend United sometimes blindly, but you can't put rubbish across as fact and when it's refuted cry that he's just bias...

Just like Ferdinand, Gerrard and Rooney used Chelsea to get their own better contracts. I never laughed at Chelsea at the time.

Its part and parcel of the game, and life in general - plenty of people use the same tactic at the companies and organisations they work for. I don't see the big deal.

I wonder if any of these people actually remember a real transfer window.

Very good example. And signing Falcao out of the blue - there are now plenty of examples.

I think Woodward and LVG have decided that transfer will be done by a team of very very few people, maybe only the 2 of them, so they can eliminate leaks.

Which means there must be a crackerjack huge signing in the next few days - If were not in for Pedro, why was Woodward in Barcelona?!
