Jorge Mendes + Atletico being in need of money.
My point was, players are not often in full control of their destiny.
With some reports that Barca might end up paying more than 200m in the end including fines etc for Neymar transfer, that's heavy cost. I am not saying Barca still need the money...but maybe...oh feck it...I want to go full muppet!!

In times like these it's important to stay rational and discuss what position LvG is going to play him in when he arrives.

If 190 mill is his clause then Barca are fecking stupid. The amount of money that is in football nowadays, if we haven't made an offer, someone will in the next few years the way he is playing.

Are you all ignoring this part btw:

But this time, the transaction will not happen: the English club heard a non Barcelona.

However, none of the two teams completely rule out that the operation to happen in the near future. The stratospheric figures seduce Barcelona, who could again hiring in the next window after the punishment of FIFA, and will need to replenish parts in almost all positions. On the other hand, the United looking for a playmaker that comes with idol status and is the club face design for years to come.

Do you seriously believe that Neymar would leave Barcelona to come to United. It would be like Keane leaving United in his prime to play for Lazio
Keane was very, very close to leaving for Turin though. We're not exactly Lazio level either, the marketing for Neymar would be over the top.

Even so, the release clause being activated still means we have to talk to the player. Why would a Brazilian superstar living in sunny Barcelona, where he's reaching his peak with a team thats currently best in the world, trade all that for Manchester at an outfit in transition.

I'm trying as hard as I can to conjure up reasons as to why he'd be tempted, but the only one I can think of at a stretch is us being able to offer him a ridiculous salary.

So I'm led to believe this is either us sending out a grand albeit empty message about being competing in the market or we somehow hope Barca will be desperate enough for the money to propell Neymar to make the move.

Why do people like you assume the football club is so dumb. Why would we active a release clause without having confirmation the player wants to come and wages agreed in principle. Like €190,000 is easy money to throw away.

P.S in football anythin can happen. Do you not see PSG?

140m pounds. You hear that Real? Not only will we not sell you our GK, we're also going to beat your transfer record. Just because we can.

That's BS. Papers got his agent wrong. His agent is Wagner Ribeiro. Never heard of 'international agent' before this story.

Sport witness had clarified on this and said that papers got it right. They said same happened with Otamendi. Mendes is not Otamendi's agent but he helped in brokering the deal and they said that's what papers are saying about Zahavi too.

We trigger the release clause, Neymar will show us the middle finger since he's playing with a much better club and than we'll say that we haven't bought the star we needed not due to lack of ambition/funds but simple because he didn't want to sign with us. A classic

you have laugh, or you'd cry.

I thought we would have learn't our lesson on bidding blind on players.

If an agent wants to use our name to get a new contract for his player then what can we do about it?

Is there a contract negotiation book and, if so, does it contain a chapter about using Manchester United?

Juventus were at par with United at the time. Barcelona are the best team in the world while we're the 4th best team in England

I never said the club was 'dumb'. For obvious reasons I just find it hard to fathom that Neymar would agree to this move out of principle unless he's been pushed to make the move. I know most of us with our red tinted specs would fail to see why he'd be opposed to joining our illustrous club, but I still don't imagine a Latin superstar swapping the best club in the world in Barcelona for a transitioning side in Manchester.

I'm not sure I understand what your PSG point is?

The chorus of Radiohead's Just seems apt right now...

Looks like Woody got pissed by the media backlash after the Pedro deal. Still though:

The club isn't dumb. They think that our fans are

So are we doing to do like the Figo saga and just match his release clause and snatch him?

No, I shall not get tricked into this. No. NOooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Its on like donkey kong!

In a perfect stupid world, let's imagine Utd truly bid that sum. Why would Neymar wanna leave Barcelona ?

Won everything with the club. He's Brazilian and they are generally mercenaries. He will forver be in Messi's shadow during his best years at Barca. Proving himself and winning things at a different club will land him Ballon D'or and break the Messi, Ronaldo cycle etc.

There's so many valid reasons that it is hard to not even get a semi even though this will never ever happen!
