Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

Duncan Castles now reporting the same. Think the deal is done.

Tbf, it's all about whether a club is willing to meet the release clause + wage demands. There's not much negotiations to be had.

Still it would mean Neymar has agreed to it which in itself is mind boggling. Not unrealistic at all but a sensational transfer if something like this just happened without any usual transfer season momentum.

Apart from the obvious money issue, Neymar knows that he can never have the spotlight when Messi is there. Makes sense from his perspective to move.

Do people think we should've payed that for him?

Do you think he gives a monkey's ass?

This is where the big disconnect is with football nowadays.

Could completely understand if he moved to get out of Messi's shadow, a new challenge, opportunity to win individual honours.

But no, this is purely to play easy(ish) football and greed.

If Neymar wants to leave then why a mickey mouse club like PSG? Why not move to the mighty Manchester United?

That mickey mouse club have more chance of winning the CL than we do, and will be in the CL for the foreseeable future, which is more than we can guarantee atm.

I agree it's probably about greed, but on the flip side......
As long as messi is at Barca he'll never be the top dog. As arguably the 3rd best player in the world he can reasonably expect to be the main man at his club.
He has a slim chance of winning cl plus a pay rise plus being number 1.
Not such a strange decision when you put it like that....

Castles says the sums involved are beyond us.
I agree. People overestimate how much we can spend.
We're not going to throw 500m at a single player. No chance!

I'm not sure any football club can without some external help. The thing about release clause is that the whole sum needs to be paid right there instead of a regular transfer where the fee is paid over the length of the contract. We might have paid 75m for Lukaku but we're probably not paying more than 15m this year unless we win PL and/or CL.

There is no disconnect tbh. There's no real point speculating how much of an impact other factors are having, they surely play a role but it's impossible to know how much. My response was purely in relation to the Ballon d or bit, I doubt he cares and understandably so. It's not really important.

The PSG rumours have been around for a while though. Barca can't really afford to pay Messi's wages to Neymar and he knows there are clubs who will, PSG aren't some Chinese club either. They're a good team. Huge money, plays with his mates from Brazil, competes for all big honours and finally becomes THE player for the team. Good package really.

PSG have a much better team than we do.
And? You could make the argument that Barcelona have a better chance of winning CL with Neymar than him going to PSG.

He wants to be the focal point of a team which we can provide, wealth which we can provide and status which we can provide via our global marketability.

Spot on. It would be absolute insanity, the height of irresponsibility.

I want it to happen, solely because of the reason that this transfer will throw all, each, every, uno, dos, tres, cuatro, ek, do, teen, transfer and budget speculations and how much United overpay for players outta the window!

Wouldn't want us to either, not on little shit like Neymar anyway. £500m on Messi in his prime though? Definitely.

Not really. There is no negotiation here. They are willing to meet the release clause and nothing much can be done about that.

He can get all of that with us.

Granted, the Manchester vs Paris argument if valid but we can offer him competitive wages, chance of glory and global recognition.

Also, wasn't the last Ballon D'Or winner not from La Liga Ronaldo with us? This could be used to persuade.

But he apparently wants to leave barca, so he is going to choose a team where he can showcase his talents on the biggest stage.

Looks as if we can't provide the money for the buyout clause. Seems even beyond us for once.

Certainly would take the pressure off our Paul this season.
