What's that got to do with anything? They're happy with their managers who have brought them trophies, why change?

Find me one who thinks they are on same level then.

Nobody is on their level. That's the whole point and what makes it so hard to our fans to take.

Can we improve on Ole? Most definitely. Can we get better than Pep and Klopp? Nope.

Did it ever come out how long the club had been talking to Ole before Jose was sacked?

Is this really the standard we use on whether we hire a new manager? It’s too bad our rivals didn’t have that mentality when Sir Alex was managing.

Conte led a post-Jose Chelsea side to the title and just ended Inter’s 10 year title drought. You can easily make the case that he’s a better manager than Klopp.

All signs are looking ominous. Board say they are backing him for now but with an expectation that results must improve. Seeing Zidane and Conte stories now, both apparently saying they won't turn down the United job if it became available.

I think a thrashing from Liverpool and it's curtains.

Then fell out with Roman and got sacked. Went to Inter and won title and then fell out with execs and left.

This isn't a guy the Glazers will work with. It's a stupid idea.

Jose Mourinho 2.0. Might win a cup before the inevitable explosion.

I’ve said it before but seeing Zizou at United would feel surreal for me, growing up watching such a footballing great ply his trade for Juve, Real and France. A man who can win 3 CLs in a row has obviously got something going. If it was just one CL then yeah you’d be sceptical and you could group him in with Di Matteo.

And who fecking knows who’s the best fit for Utd? I’ll admit I’m kinda leaning on Erik Ten Hag being that at the moment but we’ll never know until we make that change. Ten Hag could flop hard but Zidane could take us back to the good times. Everyone’s a risk and theres no such thing as a cert to be good.

Half our team speaks French anyway. Surely they could translate for the other half.
I have also always wondered how Becks and Zizou are friends.
One doesn’t speak English, the other doesn’t know any other language apart from a few sentences in English.

I'd be intrigued to see what Big Sam could do with world class players for once in his career......not counting the short lived England job!

The glazers not working well with someone who demands success is something I want to see though. Even if he does implode after a few seasons it's not like he leaves teams in as bad of shape mentally or squad wise as mourinho is

I have no problem with a manager demanding success and backing from the owners. The Glazers deserve to have their pants pulled down.

As for Conte, he comes into a ready made squad ready to challenge. He’s a proven commodity and I could care less if he flips two fingers to the glazers before he leaves. This fear of hiring someone difficult is just so odd. It’s far less stupid than holding out for Pep and Klopp to leave. Again I only wish our rivals had that limp mentality at our peak under Sir Alex, but they didn’t, they tried again and again to match us.

Well that's true I guess. I have no issue with that as I hate the owners.

I'm talking from their perspective. I very much doubt Conte is the man they'd want.

You’re right though, the Glazers won’t risk another manager dragging them through the mud. Conte is big risk to do that, though I don’t think Zidane will be as difficult unless he had run ins with Perez.

@giorno you are a prominent Madrid fan on here. What was the perception of Zidane and his tactics from your part/Madrid fans? Was he tactically astute and flexible? Or just another man management merchant?

I cannot speak for @giorno , but I think he would agree with what someone else pulled from the following string of tweets explaining Zidane's stints at Real Madrid. The man is definitely astute and more flexible than what people might believe.

Zinedine Zidane, the manager. [THREAD]

Coming from a place where French is a predominant language and thus we people appreciate a lot about what Zizou did, I will admit that I'm biased towards him whenever his name comes up.

I don't believe the Glazers would have a issue with any head coach/manager as long as said person has the credentials for the job imo. The Glazers wouldn't care less if Conte was appointed either and neither would the Glazers have to deal with him.

The people who would have major influence in who is brought in are the CEO and the three guys on the transfer committee (Bout, Lawlor, Court) and Murtough and Fletcher imo. And we need to remember that the aforementioned 5 have never been in a position of this much influence before when it comes to appointing a new head coach/manager. And it would be these people a new head coach will have to deal with and work with imo. And this relationship is the key to success if we want to challenge for major honours because streamlining the vision on how we want to play and hence recruit is the key to success and everybody needs to be on the same page or else things could go wrong very badly. So its important the guys heading the recruitment department select the new coach IMO.

We've spent a considerable amount of money in the last 6 - 7 years, revamping things at youth level, buying expensive youngsters, and putting in place mechanisms for the modern game. So the decision to appoint a new head coach/manager has to be a holistic one. John Murtough just last week was quoted as saying the following “Another element is style of play, an identity to what Manchester United is. We talk to players and coaches about playing fast, fluid attacking football, so when we link across all the age groups there’s a thread that runs through the football club.”

Who are the coaches who implement a fast fluid attacking brand of football and also bring through the talented youth at the top level (Champions League) whilst remaining competitive? I think we know the answer to that and it's the above criteria which has to be taken on board and the decision to hire a coach has to be based on the youth, identity as outlined by Murtough and having a rapport with the recruitment department IMO.

This is the perfect thread for people who continue to undermine what Zidane did.

He wouldn't be my 1st choice, but he's a fantastic manager. He's one of the 5 best managers in the world easily and has been since he's been appointed.

I thought someone else tweeted yesterday that he wasn't interested.

He wasn't. I don't see why he would be when the PSG role seems around the corner. The Juventus role probably seems available again soon and the French National team maybe available too after a tournament.

People have said he would never manage Psg due to his history, but yeah the French job depending on how they do next year seems perfect for him

First of all: Why would he go to PSG when Zidane is a proud Marseille-born boy and grew up an OM fan? For people in the French-speaking world, the rivalry between PSG and OM means something big.

Second: Juventus have found their groove back with 6 wins in a row, including 5 in Serie A. They're not going to sack Allegri soon.

Third: Unless Deschamps says "no más" himself after the next World Cup or fails miserably at the World Cup, he will stay. I believe the FFF will keep Deschamps so he can be their Joachim Löw, and that would mean Zidane waiting for a long time.

Fourth: If we sign any Manchester United manager, don't expect him to stay beyond 5 years on a single stint any longer. The reality of today's game severely dwindles the odds of longevity. Realism speaks, not romanticism.

Oh I don't know at all - I just remember seeing that he wasn't interested of United job, so I'm just trying to line up the other ones to be honest.

Great.
Rooney will take over from Zidane.

Is that the one that the tweet is referring to?

What’s up with the us one?

I was talking about Zidane not being interested, the source that I saw was an article from MEN that was based on quotes from Zidane's agent from 2018.

Exactly. We need the right personality and not another LVG or Jose. Just wish he would be a great football manager as well

Zidane would be fine, Conte too, heck even someone like Brandon Rodgers for example would do a good job with this team.
We will get it right this time. We just need a competent manager. Our team is so good that it will work flawlessly. We dont even need an absolute genius, of course it would be better we hire someone great but our individual quality is so great it will work regardless.
Just someone that belongs at this level would do.

I just want us to get someone who has the CV to back up his appointment, a winner.

I bumped into this video on Twitter, and everything she said is becoming a reality, lets avoid making the same mistakes again.

Grandma spitting knowledge.

City, Chelsea and Pool have great squads to, and with genius managers. We need that as well, not just a good one

Just out of interest- say that the glazers decided to keep Ole until the end of the season and sacked him at the end of it -

Which managers could possibly available at the end of the season that are not available now?

Ie who could potentially lose their job? For example Pochettino at PSG.
It's entirely likely that we wouldn't be in the CL so hard to say. I don't think we'd look to appoint someone who's just been sacked though.

I agree was just making the point that really anyone competent would work.
For example Rodgers has Leicester playing well, Aston Villa plays well too etc.
But I agree go with the best one. Thats clearly Conte. Hes in the same class as Klopp, Tuchel, Pep so yeah. Should be a no brainer IMO.

Knows more than 90% on here. We were awful that day but many, myself included, were buying into the excuses believing it would just take time. It's 2 and a half years ago...

I think a lot of us bought into the constant "3 or 4 players away from challenging" nonsense that the likes of Neville have constantly pushed. Personnel aside our ideas on the pitch have actually regressed over time.

Wayne’s doing an unbelievable job at Derby considering what he has to deal with. He’s certainly got the team playing the right way. Much rather have someone like Rooney who’s part of the club’s DNA.

This is almost certainly BS but exactly the scenario I'm hoping for.

The board are hopeless and aren't proactive enough to try and salvage something this season, unfortunately it would take a big personality like Ronaldo to kick up a fuss and force their hand. If that's what it takes to kick their arses into motion then I'm all for it.

I can understand concerns about Conte's football and personality but at least he has proved himself in England, Poch has also done that to extent but could just never turn that into some silverware. In regards to Zidane I am certain that he commands the respect straight away but can he prove himself outside of Spain. I really like Ten Haag but also can see people's views who say he may not be able to cope with managing a club this big.

Yeah only the big guns in that dressing room kicking up a fuss will see change this season
