I’m surprised no one mentioned Kjetil Knutsen, as he is currently managing the Norwegian league leaders.

2. Just a feeling. He hasn't ever indicated an ambition to do it as far as I know, never played here either, and has not affiliation with a club in England. Never say never, but I don't see it.

2. Pep, Klopp, Tuchel has never played in England. Afaik none had indicated an ambition to manage in England prior to their appointments either or at least prior to the rumours of a PL team was interested. In fact, if they did so imo it only narrowed down their choices among the top clubs and make them weaker in the potential negotiation.
3. His team may have some nice moments but watching them against the top or decent teams I'm not impressed at all. It's his third season there and Leicester has 8 pts after 7 matches. And they actually have a pretty good team there. Not the best choice imo.
Pretty sure Southgate would at least take England to Qatar in 2022. Nothing to worry about there. Coaching a national team and a club are worlds apart, I agree he's not the right guy for us at all and at best it would be a marginal step up from Ole.

Finding the right manager will be alot easier and smoother if we don't need to be going through a rebuild everytime we sack one.
For example, if we sack Ole today, nobody is going to be throwing words like 'rebuild' and 'cultural reset' on this team. We would expect the next manager to get in and start challenging for major trophies. But its not all about that. We also have to ask "If we bring in X coach where will he leave us long term after he is inevitably sacked? Will we have to start rebuilding the team spending hundreds of millions? Or will he recruit well and leave us with a strong squad capable of winning trophies after he's been sacked?"
Like we've learnt with Mourinho and Van Gaal, hiring the wrong manager that recruits poorly cannot just hurt in the short term but long term too even after they are gone.

Trust me, it's not gonna stop people from using cringey terms like "back to the drawing board", "steadying the ship", and "rebuild", no matter who we sign. The next manager will allegedly inevitably "rip up" everything Ole has build from DNA to good vibes. United fans will always perceive the club as culturally better than other clubs because of the "United Way". Unless we can appoint a candidate who can inject more DNA, vibes and feel-good feelings in the locker room, these same fans will turn on him.
Our best bet might probably to wait for either Tuchel or Poch, whoever gets the sack first.

Does it though? The club can barely afford to sack their current let alone back a new one. Seems to be the kind of job to stay clear for the next 2-3 years.

He’s the sort of manager who doesn’t need star signings but rather players who fit his system. Could be their savior and would have maximum patience from the club and fans considering the current state of things. Seems a smart move for him and Barcelona.
Important to keep building from what Ole and his staff has done. We now need to take the last few steps back to the very top. No need to get a new manager in, and just start from scratch again with lots of changes and a new direction.
My pick is still Erik ten Hag. He has a great track-record in Holland and in Europe. Works well with young talents. Has a clear philosophy and is tactically strong, and can adapt to the opposition. Would be a great fit. Has experience from Germany as well.

Previously I would have him nailed on as a new Barcelona manager, but I think they will go for Xavi in stead after Koeman.

There's no fecking way we'd get Southgate. Where is this even written? I refuse to believe we are that stupid. Even though we offered Ole a permanent role which was daft in itself, we can't be this daft

It might be one final feck you from Woodward to the fans. First he renew's Phelan's contract, now today i've heard we're extending contracts for carrick and mckenna. And to finally put the boot in, he's going to give us southgate before he fecks off
Would be beyond frustrating if the timing worked out for them there as that would be little to no transition in playing style.
If things wen't downhill quickly now the ones I'd be considering would be (In no order).
Zidane, Conte, Potter, Ten Hag, Thomas Frank, Rogers, Nagelsmann
For me, I would not want Conte, I don't think Nagelsmann would come, Zidane I think got a little lucky at Madrid.
That leaves: Potter, Frank, Ten Hag and Rogers. I think I'd be quite happy with any, especially Potter or Ten Hag. Real style of play and IMO are both ready to make a step up.

yeah and if pep is still determined to leave in summer 2023 I could see City negotiating terms with ten Hag / Ajax this summer to make that transition and player recruitment even smoother - because as much as it pains me to say it they are strategically well run
Pickings are incredibly slim at this point. I have reservations about both Conte and Zidane like you do. But, Brendan Rodgers would not be a good pick. He was overwhelmed at Liverpool, and this is a much bigger job. His Leicester side are also serial bottlers.

I'd rather keep Ole, and this is coming from someone whose mind was made up in May 2019. Southgate is an awful manager, he's wasting England's golden generation.
Our board won't ever go for appointments like Ten Haag, Potter etc. They are too scared of changes, we just renewed Phelan and Carrick/McKenna extension is in the works. The most terrifying part for me is that I do not trust our board to make the right call, when we eventually move from Ole.
It all feels like we’re currently prolonging the inevitable again and wasting yet another season before finally pulling the trigger.
