next labour leader

I thought the way in which Thornberry dismissed the IRA discussion was in poor taste. What did she say..."People from Northern Ireland are known for having rubber necks, they're always looking backwards rather than forwards."

At least i think that was it.

McTernan came out the better on housing IMO, neither Thornnerry nor Jones were able to provide a satisfactory answer. It was mostly platitudes or policies which didn't even address the problem at hand.

Oh right must of missed that part. Yeah that's very poor from her.

Women trolled online by Jeremy Corbyn supporters as they speak out about the shadow cabinet

I did attempt to post some of the tweets from the article, however there appears to be a gremlin in the words somewhere.

It would help if he actually went on to the media and talked about it, rather than just hiding which is what he seems to be doing. Even Owen Jones is puzzled.

Corbyn was supposed to be on the Andrew Marr Show yesterday, but cancelled the appearance so that he could concentrate on the composition of his shadow cabinet. It is worth noting however, that this preoccupation did not prevent him from attending a constituency event yesterday (where the media interaction could be managed to his liking).

Supposed to be on the Today programme this morning as well I believe - cancelled it. McDonnell was supposed to be on The World at One - pulled out.

I read that he's created a dedicated minister for mental health, which I think is a fecking excellent idea that everyone should be able to get behind.

Yup, good move, and the Minister for Jews didn't turn up either thank feck.

What's interesting is that most of the complaints on gender seem to be nothing to do with talent but visibility. It's a majority female cabinet yet it's an outrage because they're not visible token appointments.

Can't remember the name but I read a quote earlier from a female Labour MP that stated "the shadow chancellor should have been a woman end of". End of? I'd like to think the final decision regarding appointments to senior positions is made on the best fit first and foremost.

Over fifty percent of the Corbyn team are women . Media just looking for anything to bash Corbyn with.

Make the argument for why John McDonnell is the better fit over Angela Eagle then - a former economist and a Labour frontbencher for nearly 20 years with experience in Treasury positions. And she's never publicly said the IRA should be honoured to boot. It's made a mockery of all his claims for wanting party unity. It's like making Galloway foreign secretary.

Better for the role generally or better for the role given Corbyn's mandate?

I hobesrly don't feel informed enough to get in to a debate on the former and it may be a justified argument that Eagle was more suitable but if that's the case why is that not the argument being put forth rather than a gender issue?

Because the issue of women not being in many powerful positions is still there, and the "they'll get the top jobs if they're good enough" argument is usually used by people that don't give them many. And as far as I know, Corbyn supports women-only shortlists and said he'd have a gender balanced shadow cabinet (now achieved), so he clearly thinks there's a gender issue to be solved generally. Why should it be ignored on this front? The line they're coming out with now about Health and Education being just as important doesn't wash, because they aren't, they're more junior positions that people get promoted from.

I believe that Eagle would have been a better appointment, but that's beside the point. What matters is who Corbyn believes is the best person for the job, and obviously he believes that Mcdonnell is the right person. Why should he give into pressure because of tokenism? If Eagle had a penis would people be kicking up a fuss that he/she missed out even though he/she seems (to us) to have the better CV? The people who are bellyaching are doing so primarily because Mcdonnell does not have a vagina. It's ridiculous.

Over fifty percent of the Corbyn team are women . Media just looking for anything to bash Corbyn with.

Which is a huge over representation given that the vast majority of people who involve themselves in active Labour politics are men.

I think women being prominent in politics is a good thing generally, so on that front vaginas are important. But the main complaining about McDonnell is that he's a clown and would be done regardless of Eagle's gender. People are talking about Eagle in response to Corbyn supporters saying "well all the qualified ones shouldn't have ruled themselves out, then", because she clearly disproves that.

Which is a huge over representation given that the vast majority of people who involve themselves in active Labour politics are men.
Over 40% of the PLP is now female. I'd say that if far less than that are involved at lower levels, that's the thing that should be addressed, rather than lowering representation at the top to match it.

He's got the slight added issue with the fact that the majority of MPs ruling themselves out of cabinet roles were women.

They're going to need to have all of their ducks in a row by Wednesday at least, as he can't duck his first round of PMQs. It'll be interesting to see how Cameron approaches proceedings.

That was pretty interesting. Particularly the parts about trying to find someone for defense.

With Coryn as leader, it isn't likely to be an appointment that will further an MP's career. I do wonder why they couldn't have found somewhere more private, perhaps a sign of his relative inexperience at this level of politics.

According to my email Corbyn is crowd sourcing the questions (I can picture a "Here are questions the voters want answered" moment). If that happens and Cameron does his usual and avoids the questions with a prewritten line of attack he'll look like a prick.

He won't do it but I think the correct response for them would be to remove the whip and tell them they're out on their arses.

They're clearly out of touch with the wishes of the electorate and they're clearly out of touch with the new labour party. They're Labour MPs in name only.

Do please send those MP's over to the Conservative so they can win more labour seats and take more of the centre.

Reading the papers on the tube and unsurprisingly they've already started the Corbashing.

16 out of 31 shadow cabinet ministers are now female and somehow they've spinned it to him not putting women in the more senior positions. The British media really are a pestilence.

Look forward to PMQs though, Cameron won't simply be able to play his swarmy dickhead act to circumvent questions this time round, Corbyn doesn't do personal so will try and constantly shift the discussion towards actual policy which will probably be a little awkward for the Bullingdon boys.

The Tories have set their stall out.

Labour: a threat to our national security

Is Cameron's conduct at PMQs fundamentally different to that of his predecessors? In his early days as party leader he said that eh wanted to move away from the Punch and Judy of aspect, but they all end up playing to it in the end.

Was it not initially a case of the papers reflecting the reaction on social media last night?

Given that many of Corbyn's policies are either thin on detail or would struggle to find majority support with the public, i woudl have thought that Cameron will be too worried. It being the first session for a new party leader i suspect that Cameron will attempt to introduce some joviality to the interchange. Tory and SNP backbenchers will undoubtedly be more pointed with their statements.

Corbyn would of course be a threat to Britain's national security. He opposes trident, which, as everyone knows, is what would be used in retaliation to terrorist attacks on this country. Right?

I predict tory media spin of 'We won't be able to defend ourselves from a Russian invasion under Corbyn'.

I just noticed there's already questions from the media about which colour of poppy he will wear

This country is a joke and is so far up it's own arse it's ridiculous.

The idea that Cameron's going to be worried about PMQs now takes the biscuit. It's going to be brutal.

You don't think that such material would prove to be rather effective in an election campaign? Or is it that you refute the message, that Corbyn could be a risk to national security?
I think it's ridiculous and I'm struggling to get my head around the fact it's the output of the governing party of this country. I had to check, given the creepy music and black and white imagery are pretty much exactly what you'd do if you wanted to parody the Tories upcoming 'Corbyn eats children' campaign, but alas, that is the official account right there...

Yeah I didn't click on it at first because I thought it would a just being the normal middle age man in his pants talking about the liberal elite while out of context quotes appear through out the video(Basically Windows Power Point for cnuts) . Well it turns I was half right(We sadly don't Dave's voice over talents)and the middle man in his pants is no other than Prime Minister David Cameron.

Corbyn is the embodiment of the Redcafe general forum; absolutely terrifying.

What exactly is terrifying?

Worried that under a Corbyn led government there'd be poverty and a massive rise in food banks? Yeah, I know what you mean.

Pathetic.
In what way? I understand one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist, but seriously, he doesn't want us to have a half-decent military in the current environment. Jesus, people slammed the Tories for only just sticking to the 2% NATO defence budget target. I am interested to see how this pans out. Clearly there have been leftist uprisings in parts of Europe, but the prospect of John McDonnell as chancellor? Corbyn is clearly on a WUM and clearly doesn't want to get elected.

I think we should be worried that his actions will contribute to the rapid rise of a new Islamic terrorist group, which would definitely not happen under the current government or its predecessor.

I'm looking forward to him expropriating the assets of multiple global conglomerates and completely opening our borders while massively increasing benefits and taxes for those in work. Sounds the bedrock of a sustainable society that we'd all want to live in.
