Next Draft - Ideas and Discussions

Yeah not many players from the Dutch league get picked that often and the bundesliga one should have just excluded bayern to force people into looking elsewhere.

Divided Kingdom "Player from UK excepting England"

Guidance: Player must have been born in and played for Scotland, Wales, N.Ireland NT. Player must NOT have played for England NT
All-time?

Dutch league was a strange one, yes, considering that most of us simply don't know enough about their players and they aren't really worthy of the research

@Edgar Allan Pillow I will be the assistant for Skizzo if that is alright? Not sure if I cheated the AM list so felt like I had to ask so I am not stealing an AM spot.

I feel this needs a bit of steering to avoid popular players being repeated. So am making some changes to the criteria:

Box 4:

Dutch Flair "Currently plays in Dutch League"
is being replaced with
Divided Kingdom "Player from UK excepting England"

Guidance: Player must have been born in and played for Scotland, Wales, N.Ireland NT. Player must NOT have played for England NT

Box 11:

EFFICIENT "Currently plays in Bundesliga"
is being replaced with
Hey BABE! "Managed by Sir Matt Busby (exclusions apply. see guidance)"

Guidance: Should have played (have game time) in at least a single game under Sir Matt Busby for Man Utd. The trinity (Law, Charlton, Best) and Duncan Edwards cannot be picked.

..............

Will think of some more. Opinions welcome.

I'm not sure that's a good idea. I didn't look at all the boxes in detail, but if anything is to go by the disparity between them is enormous.

I don't think the solution is to make the bad ones even harder to reconcile with a side.

Sure mate, Good to see you back in the drafts.

And so, the breakup is official now. @Skizzo has ditched @Pat_Mustard to hook up with Annah  I hope you got the couch as part of the separation Pat!

@DavidG is taking my spot as the 16th manager.

@Edgar Allan Pillow no opportunity for a never got a winners medal box? Be a bit research intensive but some gems should appear.

@Edgar Allan Pillow either the USA one or the 80-100 caps possibly but I'd prefer the USA one to go. That might be because of my lack of knowledge but I can't think of too many interesting players from there.

No way! There are so many good players who played in the USA!

By the way, @Edgar Allan Pillow, can we also include Canada into that criterion, or are you just going to leave it to the USA?

I agree with that. @Edgar Allan Pillow since both the classic NASL and current MLS had Canadian clubs in the league I think it makes most sense for it to be US and Canada.

Ok then what about the 80-100 caps one?
I'm not too fussed on the whole concept to be fair. And it will be difficult to articulate the criteria. Players who had never won anything? There were so much strange tournaments over the years, lots of them not thoroughly documented. Players who had never won the league? But what about state championships etc?

Plus there are lots of uncertainties on wiki, for example, and a played could've won something which won't be mentioned on his page and you'd have to go season by season checking every team he's ever played in.

I knew only 3 interesting choices, off the top of my head who definitely didn't won anything of note and were genuinely great players (with one standout). There are many more, obviously, but...

Could be difficult to document in some cases, yes.

"Anything" is vague, and even "anything of note" is subject to interpretation. Would probably work best if it's limited to specific tournaments.

We had "never won the league" in one of the criteria drafts, iirc.

Well yeah i wasn't thinking of it as an open criteria it would be never won and then a set criteria. Just think it'll bring players into the drafts that would rarely if ever get picked.

Only one person from a team should be allowed to post in a match thread for an entire match.

Its too unfair when people like @Joga Bonito spam match threads when a single opponent can't be online.

It's not uncommon to have 2 managers in these drafts and IMO is all good when they take turns. I was online pretty much the whole time as well but only made one post since 6pm yesterday, which was personally addressed to me. Looking at the post count we have like 5 posts more than you which I wouldn't call spam.

What Joga "spammed" the thread with yesterday are some really interesting stories for Zizinho and Erico - two players that are past greats with not so much information, that would be useful for drafts ahead and for everyone who likes to know a bit more about them, which at the end is all about - and of course build a team that you like given the criteria.

I've played against two managers in the past and I don't think it made a difference personally to me as the points that are put forward usually are the same as the two managers before the game share the same plan and it has been discussed beforehand. When you take turns it's not so much of an issue IMO and the research put in by Joga in this case is well worth the read not only for voters, but to everybody who wants to learn a bit more for those players on the team sheet.

I know you aren't posting at the same time but if you post for a few hours and then another guy posts for the next few hours you can't expect one guy to stay awake for 24 hours fighting against multiple people rotating shifts. Basically you have someone arguing for your team the whole time while when the other guy eventually goes offline he won't be able to transfer it to anyone.

Going forward I think this should be one of the main changes - specially with so many teams coming up with co-managers. Decide one man before the match up and the other ones aren't allowed to post in the match thread. Simple. Others can still PM him if they wanna put something across but that person has to be online to post them in the thread and when he's not nothing should be posted from others.

It's not that I don't agree with you and it is something which can be easily implemented and one manager can take over in one game, other in the next or PM-ing and posting his research/work on the subject. So generally it's something that can be discussed and solved with drafts ahead.

However I do feel it's a bit unfair comment on Joga in the current situation, considering we even waited for him in PM to show up so Joga can post his thoughts.

Yeah I'm not talking about this match in particular but more about a change that should be made going forward.

I think that's a fair assessment and suggestion. The only caveat I'd build in is that, where both teams have multiple managers and are agreeable, if they want to have a free-for-all between the lot of them, then crack on. As frankly, it's quite entertaining to watch. And it generates a lot of heated discussion. But generally one v one is a good principle to hold going forward and is only fair on the solo riders out there.

In other news when we starting

@Edgar Allan Pillow gogogo!

For future we can have a Monopoly Auction Draft with people losing/gaining money from bank/each other etc depending on their fortunes. :D

Before we start, I'd like to get opinion on certain themes:

1) Do you support continuation of "votes not visible before voting"?
2) Do you support continuation of "Votes cannot be changed"?
3) Do you support all managers excepting the designated person to argue in match thread be banned from posting in match thread? (For teams with AM only)

Just a Yes/No would suffice. Explanations not necessary.
