Newcastle United 24/25 - Eddie Howe Sack Watch

 Mainoo is twice the player.
What do you think Mainoo is clearly better at? I mean, he is a massive talent but Bruno Guimaraes is statistically better at take ons, long passing, passing, progressive passing, tackling, work rate, goal contributions, and pretty much every aspect. I know statistics shouldn't be used to determine who the best player is, but it is an indicator that Mainoo isn't twice the player like you say. Bruno Guimaraes is quite complete and an all around brilliant CM.

Brilliant is a strong word, he's a decent player nothing more than that.
Bruno G works hard which covers a lot of his flaws, and there are a lot of flaws to his game.

Can you name these flaws? I don't see a particular weakness in his game that makes it a flaw. Obviously, he doesn't have the touch of Modric, Kroos' passing or Ronaldinho's dribbling, but to suggest he has a lot of flaws is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. I think he is one of the more complete and balanced CMs in the league.

Bruno Guimaraes isn't a brilliant CM. He's a hothead who goes sliding into challenges that are 70/30 in the opposition's favour in a way that Casemiro would be proud of. He also barely creates any chances as a number 8, which I assume was one of the reasons why Howe started to play him as a 6 in games last season, where he often struggled with his defensive positioning. Mainoo is also better in tight spaces, receiving the ball on the half turn and dribbling past players.

I rate Mainoo but lets not go overboard. Right now, Bruno G is clear of Mainoo. Bruno maybe hot headed and dives into tackles but to say he is not creative is false. He actually plays really nice passes into the forwards and is also good in tight spaces and being press resistant.

Off the ball Mainoo is not great either, his positioning is not there and he struggles to keep up with play.

I think it’s because he works hard hes used as a 6 rather than 8, Tonali should be the 6, but Howe seems wedded to having at least one of Longstaff and Willock in the team

I think that's some serious underrating of him. Not world class by any means, but he is very good and has been highly rated since playing in Brazil. He also created 62 chances last season as a CM, that is #21 of all players, ranking ahead the likes of de Bruyne, Gordon, Eze, Martinelli, Havertz and all of our attackers, so I don't know how you came to the conclusion that he barely creates chances.

Big chances created so far this season? 2. Behind Wes Burns, Jacob Ramsey and his own teammate Joe Willock.

I’m a bit conflicted with Newcastle, is it okay to like them?

They have a great young English manager, play very exciting football, have one of the best strikers in the world and their home fans are incredible. Yes, they have been bought by Saudi, but they haven’t splashed the cash the way city did/do and appear to be operating very fairly within the constraints of PSR.

Anyone I’ve ever met from Newcastle has typically been a very fun and likeable individual too.

Their fans are moronic fat bastards with a delusion that they are relevant. That said, a final between Newcastle and Spurs would be a great final to watch as both of them are desperate for a trophy. I'd much prefer Spurs to win it than the Geordies or Scousers.

Conflicted about a state owned club? They voted against PSR and that’s the only reason they haven’t splashed like city.

You can like whoever you like.

For me, they are no better than the cheats and any glory they achieve will be plastic.
Their fans are arrogant without any previous achievement.
They constantly back up the cheats on many platforms to justify their own dubious ownership.
If it's them and the cheats fighting over the prem in the near future then this league is done.

No. They are scum.

I've never met any Geordies that I didn't like, you can booze in their pubs as an opposition fan, and they don't take themselves to seriously. It's not their fault that they were taken over by a foreign owner. Most United fans would have taken it.

Delusional fans. I'd even have the scouse win it over them.

May their trophyless run continue.

According to journalist Phil McNulty "If Newcastle United win the League Cup, Howe and his players will assume legendary status forever"

Such hype remarks from English journalists like that doesn't happen if they aren't managed by a English manager IMO. Birmingham,Swansea and even Tottenham won this trophy over the last 20 years was any of their players and managers labelled as legends for winning it?

I suppose when your last domestic trophy was 70 years ago, a trophy win now would make them legends.

I personally like Newcastle because my late granda was a Newcastle fan, the only time I didn't like them was when they competed against United in 90s under keegan.

But all in all, they are super passionate and it rubs others the wrong way but despite 70 years of winning nothing 50+ thousand show up every game.

I saw that, absolute bollocks. Sunderland, Boro, Wigan, Luton, Wimbledon... loads of clubs have won something since the last time they won anything of note.

The only thing that'll be legendary if they win will be the fact it'll be the first time the Geordies have seen them lift a cup on a colour telly.

But in Newcastle's case, it would make them legends. CL appearance plus trophy? Nobody's done better than that in the club's history.
