There’s going to be circus tent jibes but whatever, that looks mightily impressive. I love the three red glowing spires.

 why?

It’s as it should be, bold, imposing and impressive. Adding additional height with the towers should mean it can be seen from further away and make its mark on the city.
He's kinda worried it's going to attract the orcs to take over and produce more Uruk-Hai. Doesn't realize that's already happened at OT with Glazers and Woodward.

How many stadiums has Foster designed?

I personally loathe the design. But if your going for modern pretentious architecture with shared spaces etc it clearly ticks those boxes. Just hope some thought was actually given to football factors like atmosphere.
The stands behind the goal look they could be good for the atmosphere.

That being said, that will be killed with the prices.

My priority was always the development of the current ground. Half a billion to a billion pounds, could work wonders redeveloping the South Stand and then give everyone their precious "leg room" whilst giving us a 90,000 - 100,000 capacity stadium.

All the wider area regeneration could still be done aswell.

Hoping that they plan to prefabricate most of it, means that we won't see cost spiral.

It’s a Cathedral with those spires.
Utd the religion.
3 prongs of the Red Devil’s trident.
The 3 spears of the holy trinity.

Our average attendance and match day revenue will completely dwarf any other English club so they can have their jibes.

It's a pity they it's not a larger capacity than Camp Nou.
Then we could legitimately say we're the biggest club in the world.

There is no way the current footprint, space and probably architecture could put that up to 100k. It's why they've always said the regeneration idea would only add about 10k seats. They've had architects and planners looking at this since before Sir Jim came in..

And as much as you hate it, all the revenues gained from area around the stadium either via directly or from leases/rents go into the club. Your not getting that by regeneration of the current stadium.

 Just my opinion... a bit circus tent looking as other have said.

Got to laugh at all the rival fans lining up to have a pop at the new stadium which will be the biggest in the country by a fecking mile.

As if they're not going to cream themselves when they get a 15K seat allocation to sit in it for FA cup games.

I like the concept.

Good to have a positive long term plan.

Old Trafford is in desperate need of an update.

Just wonder how they plan to fund it?
What they plan to call it?
When is this planned to start development?

If you watch the video of Norman Foster explaining it, he says that's exactly the plan and the only way to get it built in 5 years instead of 10.

They're going to prefabricate everything and move it into place using the canals.

In the latest interview Jim said the Stadium will be funded by "them" while the surrounding areas need government support.

I assume it will be a combination of the club, the owners and external sponsors.

I love that sales pitch.

Also intriguing to see as they pull back on the view that there's a football pitch (not a stadium) just up the road from it. I don't know if that's just an infill blob on the plan or an actual thing of course.

I'm liking it at the moment, but just worry about the ticket price rises once it comes to fruition.

Maybe I'm being naive but going off the laws of supply and demand, you'd think prices would remain roughly the same. Prices could even come down if they struggle to sell out every week.

“We intend to uphold traditions and it’s essential that it still feels like Old Trafford, feels like home. That’s why we will be keeping one of Old Trafford’s most iconic features, the pitch side slope”

What the feck that is mental

Just seen the news. New stadium was always the way, and it's certainly unique and spectacular. I don't hate it and I'm sure it will grow on me.

I have doubts if it will happen, though. The club is in shambles financially, with barely any money for the squad, yet going to build something like this? Where's the money coming from? I will believe it when I see it.

After the initial shock, it’s growing on me and in real life (sorry for the abbreviations ffs.. these fckg rules. how about not allowing feck) anyway it will make one fckg big statement.

After watching the reds since the 60s, it won’t feel like United anymore but might be wrong. Despite our current financial woes, the game is awash with money and this is our chance to future proof the stadium. Have to say in some ways is fittingly appropriate for the greatest club in the world. Hope the pitchside acoustics have been worked out. Visiting players and fans will be in awe. Just need a decent team to put in there.

Inside the stadium looks incredible, love steep stands close to the pitch.

The tent is interesting...

I appreciate having a design that's completely different to anything I've ever seen, but I do wonder how shit that glass is gonna look in reality. Think of all the bird shit that's gonna accumulate on there!

Of course some are saying it looks like an 'Arab tent' whatever that is. But that goes along with their political stance and obsession with some themes, like imigration and similar.
