Nicolás Otamendi

was on my manager's list.

i think the defenders are going to be more difficult to pick as we go on.

Aye, I pmd him.

Glad I got Evans too, probably wasnt picked earlier because he isn't having a great season, but looking at his overall career I would still rate him higher than smalling, and certainly above the likes of shawcross who have never played at the top level in the CL against the likes of pato and aguero. [/mind games]

He won't have to face Pato in this either :p

I was hoping Evans would stay under the radar due to his poor form as well.

Yeah true, what does SAF know?

Finishing off the core of my team is Schalke vice captain Benedikt Höwedes

Andrea Ranocchia

One of the key reasons for the revivial of Inter after signing from Genoa in the winter window.

Also made his debut for the Italian national side...

Fail to see the relevance. We are picking players on what thy have achieved and their careers to date.

Its not really about achievement. its about picking teams that can go out and play today and win.

Some players are still young and may be playing in teams that have not won anything. That does not mean that they are worse than a players that have played a bit part role in trophy winning side.

Achievement can be measured on any number of things, though. It can be playing 250 league games without winning anything.

But I agree that it's about sending out a team to win today.

This sums it up quite well, picking a whole load of United, Barca & Inter reserves because they have CL medals without ever playing will not get you very far.

This statement should probably be placed right on top of each of the voting threads, when they are made.

I think it should be made very clear that the vote is not about potential.

I did put this in the rules, can't be much clearer than that:

* Players chosen will be judged on their careers so far, everything they have achieved, selection should not be based on how good you think they'd become.

Sorry about that DE I should have looked harder through the thread

Ill take Greece and AC Milan's versatile defender

That is such a bull. All Evans had was a great run of games 2 years ago. From when on, he only gone backwards. This season he hardly played at all, and when played he was fcking disaster. I wish a lot he would recover, but u got to admit his future at Man United is at risk. Oh and yeah he had a nice loan at Sunderland like 4 years ago, but i guess the fantasy matches wont be played in the past?

You say Showcross did not played vs lthe ikes of pato... Why do you choose to ignore that he plays in most competitive league in the world vs the like of Drogba, Torres, Rooney, Tevez, RVP on regular bases? he is more experienced than Evans, 1000x times more consistent. and already established himself as the outstanding performer of his team, he even got captaincy and will lead his team in FA Cup final at wembley. I am sure Evans has more potential, and i wish he has a great career at Man United. But as of this day Showcross surely is more established talent.

I honestly have no idea where some of you will find CBs from. ;)

I actually think all of you are going to stuggle to put together balanced teams - there will be a lot of unknown and random names making up the numbers when we get to the last few rounds.

if the game is to be played today, i would have like 10 other unpicked defenders before i let evans near my team.

well maybe we should make a rule. say the winner of first round can get one player from defeated team to have more recognisable teams in latter stages?

Oi... I was trying to get everyone to start picking CBs now I've sorted out mine.

It's already in the rules.

* Come the knockout stage, if you win a match, you are allowed to choose one player from the losing side to replace one of your own.

IBleedRed has changed his pick, in case anyone didn't see the edit. Arjwiz turn.

Luckily he wasn't taken yet. Regular for Palermo this season, Ezequiel Munoz

as I said, and has been said a thousand times on this forum - form is temporary, class is permanent. I would take a player with nearly 100 caps for one of the biggest clubs in the world, and experience in the champions league, over a player who plays for a mid table team and was released by the same club that chose to retain the former player.

After last season, Evans was already regarded as a world class defender. One bad season doesn't change that - i bet if Rooney was in this draft, his poor form for most of the season wouldn't stop him being picked.

100 caps? world class? class permanent? what class? you are so deluded. Yeah compare Evans to Rooney that make so much sense... Rooney poor form never stopped him for being picked by SAF every time he was fit, while Evans was relegated to 4th choice centre back.

There is nothing wrong with picking players based on form, however to write off a player after a few bad games earlier this season is exactly the same as the retards claiming Rooney was shit, around Christmas time.

You bring SAFs selections into it, the same SAF who sold Shawcross with him barely making an appearance for the club, whilst retaining Evans who then went on to play a crucial part for us in the last two seasons.

Whatever. Not sure why im even bothering to respond, if you genuinely think a Shawcross who was shipped off by SAF to Stoke of all teams rates higher than a Jonny Evans who has been integral to the last two season for Manchester United, then there isnt really any more reasoning to be done.
