Nemanja Vidic announces retirement
Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic has released a statement to ManUtd.com announcing his retirement from football.

The former Reds skipper, who recently left Inter Milan, has decided to call time on his career at the age of 34.

"The time has come for me to hang up my boots," he said. "The injuries I have had in the last few years have taken their toll.

"I would like to thank all the players I have played with, all the managers and staff I have worked with, and say a big 'thank you' to the fans for their support over the years."

Woah, I know he had some troubles with injuries, but I'm still a bit surprised!

What a legend he was. An absolute beast for us, whose distribution was often underrated. One of my favorite players.

Does anyone have that gif with that monstrous leap he had against Bolton? Has to be one of my best Vida memories.

It was an absolute pleasure to watch this man in his prime. He was a human wall.

What a monster of a defender he was. Him and Rio are the CB duo I have watched regularly, by quite a distance. Not sure we'll see their likes again at the club, so we better cherish the memories.

Would love him to come back here in some coaching capacity.

Thank you, Nemanja.

Club legend. Bring him home in some capacity. feck it, make him manager. Or let him have Woody's job. Anyone think Vidic wouldn't get those commercial deals? Who'd say no to Nemanja.

Him and Ferdinand were the best defensive duo for 3-4 straight seasons, plenty of great memories. Really miss the 2006-11 period, those were amazing five years. :(

A beast of a defender. For several seasons from 07-11 he completely removed any anxiety I'd have over crosses/long balls coming in, since they would all be inevitably headed away to safety by this man. Him and Rio was a fantastic partnership.

Didn't expect a retirement. I knew he had injury issues, but feck.

Loved the guy. An absolute colossal for us. Would love for him to return to us in some format.

What a player - what a warrior - loved the celebrations with the Russian hat in Moscow...

Slightly sullied his United legacy with the way he dealt with his exit under Moyesy while captain but can't under estimate how important he was as the rock hard centre of that last great Fergie side...

Thanks for the memories Vida!

Fantastic player, and one of my favorite United players. This celebration always brings a smile to my face:

Nemanja & Rio were the best ever defensive partnership in Premier League history, no others come close

Legend and superb CB defensively but his distribution was shocking.

Probably the best defender I've seen in my lifetime. Wish him all the best for the future, hopefully we will see him in a managerial role because I think it would suit him.

When you have players like him in your team, you win titles. There's no higher praise than that.
The guy wanted to quit football to go to war ffs.

Shocking? Get a grip. Rio was clearly superior when it came to distribution, but Vida was nowhere near shocking. He was confident with both feet and could hit some very nice long diagonal balls.

Brilliant defender and left everything on the pitch, really miss him, thanks for all the memories.

The Rio, Vida partnership was in its prime one of the best ever. Great memories. Both now being retired is making me feel even older!
