Yeah champ sure I already commented on him not jumping for the header. He obviously pissed on your breakfast, as you’ve a serious agenda against him, so not wasting any time further debating Matic with you as you only see what you want to see and nothin fatal happened, no one died, we just got to read your dredge posts about him! Move on get a life champ.
Ok kid. Did you? Couldn't see it in my response kid. I wouldn't want to have to justify such it either kid. Fatal also means leading to failure kid, not just someone dying. If you can't justify your stance kid, then maybe it's time for you to move on. Kid.

Yes he was. It was his man that crossed the ball. He ran off him when Matic stepped up.

Nope. Tuanzabe should have dropped into the space. That's why it happened in the first place.

Matic should be tracking his runner. It's football 101. If you pass your player on, then know that you're passing them on to someone who can take it.

 Ok boomer

Absolutely not. Matic went to the right space. Tuanzabe left that space for the ball the be played into. There was no way Matic is capable of tracking his man because he is too slow to catch him. The pass would not have happened if Tuanzabe didn't allow that space to be exploited. As a midfield player Matic did the right thing by pushing on his man.

Then what is he doing in the box. Genuinely, explain it to me. What's his job.

Clearing the ball if the attacker wasn’t given a clean run at the ball. Rashford gets some kind of nudge on him and the ball is cleared.

Have you ever played basketball or any kind of sport? Someone with a running jump is always going to maul someone who is jumping from stationary.

He could’ve done better for their first goal but he was good other than that, I thought he was generally pretty tidy on the ball.

That's not an excuse. If he isn't capable of reading the movement of a player or doing something as simple as track a runner, then he should be nowhere near the team. It's called cheating. Even if Tuanzebe didn't step up (who was also at fault) then their CM has still got in behind our midfield. He's a DM. It's literally his job to stop that happening.

What could he have done after the ball is passed? He is not going to catch the Leicester player.
One of the best DM showed exactly what Matic did was right for the first goal. None of us have played midfield at that level so when Hargreaves is adamant as a midfield player what Matic did was right I tend to believe him rather than any others on a forum. I am not having a go at you.

I just think he and Axel stepped too high up the pitch which gave too much space away for the initial ball. If we’re going to just go off what Hargreaves said we might as well close the forum mate. ;)

I think he's been mostly bad throughout his time here (his 3 good spells which have lasted about 6 weeks have coincided with his arrival, the change of manager and him looking for a new contract) but in the first half I thought he was our best player, the problem is before it took a few games for him to look completely off the pace and become a liability while now it takes 45 minutes albeit it's probably a harsh time to single him out given as a team we struggled which is understandable for the youngsters but more concerning for the more experienced players.
That's pretty much it. Each run of good form that he's had with us has been noticeably shorter than the last. The first time it was half a season. The second one was 1-2 months. The third one was 1 month. The fourth a couple of weeks. And each time he's been poor for 6 months or so between each of those increasingly short runs of form. Now he's struggling to perform at all, and when he does (like today) it was for only half the match. Admittedly he didn't have too much help out there, but ultimately he was poor.

2019 called. They want their insult back.

Still didn't try to actual challenge the points made in the post by the way. Run away!

Sorry boomer, I shall desist now, you’ve made yourself look very petulant and you keep trying to prove you’ve a valid point, but failing very badly.
Enjoy your opinion (it’s wrong by the way).
Matic had a good game, plenty of debate going on, that you’re forcing your opinion over with repeatedly posting dredge comments over those with differing opinions, who are more enlightened then yourself and aren’t just posting with an agenda like you are.

Your retaliation has resorted to calling me boomer and champ half a dozen times. And you think I'm petulant? You really are delusional aren't you? I've challenged you three times now to respond to the points I've made and this is all you've done. You aren't capable of responding sensibly. That tells you all you need to know. Back to your bridge, troll.

You've got a weird agenda against Matic, you were slating him in the match thread from the word go.

Imo he was very good - showed his class on the ball multiple times. He is still leggy which leads to errors but his on the ball class was plain to see. Clearly he's not a long term option for us given that he doesn't start much.

Going forward with the ball he still looks very good, picked out some great passes, but when he had to do his defensive duties, he struggled. Players run off him quite easily now, and turning his back instead of attacking the ball for the winning goal was very disappointing.

A mixed bag, to say the least. Very good bringing the ball out from the back first half, but he had a big role in both goals we conceded. On the first one, he did not tract the run when Tielemans got loose on the wing. Fred would have followed that run. On the second he was really weak in the duel in the box. Ole´s expression said it all.

Tielemens was always going to get loose on the wing once that space was vacated by Tuanzabe. There was no way Matic is going to keep up with him in that open space. The whole defense was all over the place for that pass.

Cant wait until april/may 2022 when inevitably he'll play great for about 4-5 games and everyone will be raving about how he's always been class and happy he extended his contract until 2025.

I don't recall him being at fault for their goals, no.

Reading other comments, seems you have an agenda against Matic. That's a shame. He played well tonight and stood out amongst an average side.
If you can't recall why people at the very least thought he was at fault to the goals, then you have no place telling other people they have an agenda. Shame. Because if you had bothered to read through the thread as you claimed to have, then you'll have seen plenty of other posters also questioning his part in thier goals, the same as media outlets like the BBC and the Sun. Everyone's got an agenda it seems!

Classy first half but faded badly in the second, should still do well in Serie A next season.

Think he is an excellent squad option with his experience and reading of the game. His footwork remains excellent. Never a starter at this stage if his career, but seasons are long and you need a lot of quality in depth. He still has a role to play in that regard.

Some strange posts. I thought he was one of the only players (on both sides) that even resembled a professional footballer for large parts of that game.

He's class but he's so slow currently that he's become a liability. Cant use him as a CDM because he'll get easily overrun. I think the only time when I would use him is at the last 10-15 minutes of a game when winning and playing a low block.

Similar goal scored tonight as to the goal we conceded in the cup , both times Matic ball watching and leaving Tielemans with oceans of space, he was fine after that but he’s just not up to it anymore

Get Bissouma or Ndidi

or bring back Garner (most likely option)

Uh, nah. The majority of posts are in line with what I said, in that he was one of the better players on the pitch today. Have you laid into the other 10 players on the pitch in the same way as you have for Matic? I haven't checked but I'm sure you haven't.

No he wasn'ts responsible for the first goal. The 2nd he got out jumped but this is the problem with the zonal marking.

Did he jump?

Thought he had a decent game but Matic has never fancied heading the ball, certainly not when there's a chance he'll get hurt.

Always thought that a shame because with his height he ahould have been a real weapon in both pen boxes.

Proper captain disaster class. Partly fault for two goals.
I don't see how he can't be held culpable for the first, that's even more glaring. Gets attracted to the ball and allows a man to run past him into space.

Thought he looked really good on the ball.

Him and Tuanzebe had a mare for the first goal. The less said about his defending for the 2nd goal the better.

he’s still class on the ball, and has a swagger about him when in the mood.

but he’s just too slow, and as a result goes hiding at CB or LB to give himself time.

He was good on the ball in the first half, 2nd half he just disappeared into the back 3 and barely put any pressure onto the midfield - that was why they started to dominate.

Teilemans was left to have a free reign all 2nd half and was causing a big overload down that right flank.

While for the first goal Tielemans did run off Matic, most of the blame goes to Tuanzebe there. He should never have followed the striker in so tight and left a gaping hole for Tielemans to run into.

Had a good game considering his ability now.
Definitely wasn’t at fault for the first goal, don’t know how anyone with two eyes can draw that conclusion after Tuanzebe completely lost his positional awareness and was played like a fiddle by Leicester. Matic was left scrambling at that point and there wasn’t much he could do. He tracked the run, he just hasn’t got the pace.

What he did show though, and it looks like Ole is more open to try next season, is that with a proper CDM in our midfield, we don’t need to use two players to play that role.
Hopefully we see that more next season against teams we are expected to dominate against.
