Would have been doing the same with Willian tooWe spend 40m on him and 1-2 years after he needs to be replaced. In few words he's the perfect Mourinho's signing and what squad inheritance is all about.

Even an amateur runner would get 12km in 90m of jogging. He covered 12.1km today, which really surprised me.

Not me he does a great job for us week in week out .
People pick on him as he is not a glamour player yet ignore the likes of Fred and even Pogba who was poor today when Matic was playing fat better than them both .
That's not relevant, he covered more ground than anyone else on the pitch today.
It means nothing if a player just run or jog like headless chicken.
tremendous.Nemanja Static, lol.
Jose clearly believes in Matic and does not rate his bench. However, I think that once Fellaini is back fully fit he will take over the DM role.
I don’t think Matic is fit; he needs some time to let his body repair from some serious mileage over the past season and a half. He was excellent for us last season, carried his more illustrious midfield colleague on several occasions. He seemed to play while carrying knocks and niggles a lot, which is admirable but not really sustainable and now I think he is paying for it.
Absolutely, but that wouldn't be an accurate description of his performance today.
Why was Matic the only player to not bare a poppy on their match shirt today?
Quite clear that a poppy emblem had been attached to his shirt with the mark left behind. Did Matic remove it himself? Is he an objector to the tradition?
Who then?Or how about we just get somebody who can do his job properly?
Add Kante / Fernandinho to this team and we'd be a hell of a lot better.
I wish I could be bothered to do 1 of those 90 minute performance videos and point out his many, many mistakes
*Great effort. Not me he does a great job for us week in week out .

To be fair, 90% of that was chasing after his own loose touches. He covered 12.1km today, which really surprised me.
He has the mobility of a double decker, you you want to see him as a box to box?Still want to see him as a box to box with Herrera as our DM. I still think he's an impressive player.
Not right away as he could do with a break. Saying he could do with one last year was cliché, but this year - after a world cup and coming straight back in due to injury - i think he's in need of one.He has the mobility of a double decker, you you want to see him as a box to box?
Can't get my head round that. He doesn't have the engine...not even close.
Last season he was overrated. This season he is just awful, offering almost nothing with or without the ball.
Those late game situations where he comes alive are possible because he conserves energy for most of the game. A box to box player has to do that for 90mins.Not right away as he could do with a break. I think he has a lot left to offer if used right. He's underwhelming defensively, but has shown he can contribute in the final 3rd with some nice passes, shots and runs into the opposition box. He's also one of our very few players who can retain the ball when pressed which is a great asset to have.
I think his lack of stamina is overstated. Late on in games when we're usually pushing for a equaliser, he's usually very good and a key reason as to why we get on top during those periods and stay on top.
You may have a good point in regards to his stamina, to be fair! With Herrera next to him, I would like to see him in a more box to box role, though. With a player like Herrera next to him who can cover as much ground as he does i think it could work for now. I think he could perform a similar role for us as to what Touré did for City with Herrera in the De Jong/Barry/Fernandinho role. Those late game situations where he comes alive are possible because he conserves energy for most of the game. He does have nice passes in his locker which is why I wonder why he spends most of the game turning down good opportunities to make forward passes. He gave an interview where he adviced Martial to do more with his ability. Found it ironic because Matic I feel is another posterboy for self-underutilised talent
This needs to end. He was one of the few in midfield who actually positions himself right. Pogba is a liability in defense and Fred was all over the place. The 4/5 chances Bournemouth created in the first half was a result of the midfield standing in no-mans-land. Matic was all alone. The worst one was Fred though who run at every ball making huge gaps behind him.
Sure Matic aint Kante, but he's a brilliant player. With our current defence, he's a must. Pogba in the 2nd half was a monster, Matic was alright, Fred was a disaster.
But Matic gets the blame, even though he ran more and ran more correct. I don't get it. You have to be flashy, have a fancy name and be short to be liked theese days.
