They were on him as soon as he got the ball, knowing he sleeps with it
Yeah it seems like Jose only opens his eyes when Media comes calling with respect to his favourites. He doesn't offer the CB's protection, can't get out to help the fullbacks and stalls way too often on the ball, but he isn't worth column inches for the media so Mournho wont need to asnwer why he starts every game.
I don't know what's happened to him. How has he lost so much pace and agility so quickly? We are talking a few months here.
He did not. He is exactly the same.I don't know what's happened to him. How has he lost so much pace and agility so quickly? We are talking a few months here.

We are awkwardly trying to play a ltb of a higher line and with some kind of alibi-pressing game; this season. Without committing to either principle.
And one cannot do this with Matic in the team. He will be exposed at once.
He is suited to a low block defending team that looks for the counter. If Mourinho is going to try to change our tactical approach; Matic and Lukaku needs to go and/or be reduced to squad players.
Or we could replace Mourinho which would have the same effect on both those players.

We have been trying to stand higher up the pitch this year though.I just don't remember him being so, so slow. When he loses a challenge within a few paces he is a good metre or two behind. He cant seem to get beyond a jog.
Yeah, I completely agree on this. And what does reflect the worst on him is that he has not managed to implement his own game during this period. The game that has made him a serial winner over the years.Lukaku, Fellaini and Matic are an eloquent explanation of Mourinho's failings here. He simply prioritized the wrong type of players, wrong type of football and set back the evolution of the side, suffocated any potential positives from LVG's time. Taking nearly 2 and a half years before he changed it up, and that was forced, does not reflect well on him.
Spot on.This is how he looked in his last season at Chelsea. He had a very short prime really, 2-3 years maximum on his return there. Even last year after a bright 3 months he struggled, people kept saying he looked fatigued, reality he looked what he is, a player in decline.
Yeah, excellent point. He and Pogba has actually looked the best when playing together in a double pivot. Not excellent but still. If Matic is going to play that would be how to get the best out of him positionally-wise. But even with Pogba more close to him we cannot stand high up the pitch with him and Smalling playing at the same time.A lot better in the second half. Think the fact that we moved to a double pivot helped him, and something he has been used to playing for a long time now.
Never really been someone to play as a holding midfielder. He's neither a dynamic enforcer, nor is he a deep lying playmaker.
Or how about we just get somebody who can do his job properly?Need a rest, a good time off.
This game would be that good time before the next two big game, but alas Mou's insistence.
Anyway, when the midfield is under pressure, and Matic is playing the solo pivot/DMF, he tends to struggle -- he needs a partner, McT is his best pal, and then Herrera. Conte partnered him up with Kante before he came here. When we're in control of the midfield and our defence is performing well, Pogba-Matic is more than enough or just himself but it'll show when attackers go pass him easily.
