NEEDED: A Left-Footed Winger

NEEDED: People to stop being transfer muppets and support the amazing, young and talented squad we have.

Giggs is still flying high. We also have Park. Nani will play the left when Valencia gets back. SORTED.

Antonio Valencia says hi.

This out and out winger provided Rooney with a ridiculous amount of chances and was a HUGE reason why our number 10 enjoyed his most prolific season ever. I like out and out wingers. I like to say "out and out" even more.

Bale.

This guy is as worth his hype imo. He would be a superstar here.

I hope we go all out to get him in the summer, even if it costs half the Ronaldo figure.

He has everything: pace, power, shooting, passing, crossing, dribbling, work rate attitude... he can even head!

Pure wingers just aren't worth the admission money in the modern game, you need all-round attackers like Nani or Nasri who can give you a lot more than your Lennon's or Adam Johnson's.

If Johnson was just better at his current game, he'd be a Nani.

Who was the last 'out and out winger' to take the game by storm? I'm struggling to think of many since Giggs/Figo... Robben?

90s Giggs or Ginola? Though both had more to their games. Figo (certainly) and Robben too are more rounded IMO. Lennon is the classic trad winger in the PL - hugs the touchline, has about 5 good games a season, assists little and scores less.

Hi Tony, you sure put it to the cannon fodder to get those numbers up but you didn't really turn up against top opposition did you?

Make a mockery of Ashley Cole in our first game of the season. Something even Ronaldo and Messi didn't quite do.

And Nasri really performed this season against us didn't he?

We got stuck in and he curled up back into his little nest.

He was very good against Bayern at home, Liverpool away, Villa in the final, Everton away, and among our best players against Liverpool at home, City away twice and the two Milan matches. As well as the group matches in the CL.

He struggled in the games against Chelsea and he only started against you and Spurs once.

Overall pretty decent, especially considering how his form dropped somewhat in the second part of the season.

Maybe we should give Fabio a run in the left wing position during cup games and see how he does. His speed can be very effective. He can cross with both feet in the sense he plays on the left and can cross using his left foot when he is actually a right footed player.

I think a left-footed left winger is more important than a creative midfielder. Or maybe better words, it is a better chronology of signing. As for today we have Giggs, Scholes, Carrick whom are all posess creativity.

Giggs is certainly a better playmaker than a left winger these days, let there be no doubt about that. Paul Scholes does not deliver at the level he did when he was younger, but when he has the day he is still among the very top. Carrick also got vision and clever passes. We also have creativity out of the central midfield position in Rooney, Berbatov and Nani. I bet Giggs and Scholes both will take another year, so there is no massive rush in bringing creativity in.

This is a better chronology because our next playmaker will get a better frame to develop into our team. We will have excellent coverage because we have great right winger in Valencia, a world class right winger and a great left winger in Nani, and hopefully a new world class winger on the left side.

cocks out option is bale without a doubt. going from one awesome welsh winger to another - Giggs would provide a bloody fantastic role model for Bale were he to sign.

We would be talking silly money mind you - £40m at least for spurs to consider parting with him, but that would be the very best choice.

Frankly though, I would worry about the competition for places with Bale, Nani and Valencia in the squad - Nani on the right and Bale on the left would be absolutely quality though.

I think it'd be 'handy' to have but I wouldn't go overboard and say we desperately need one. Nani will have no problems adjusting to the left again when (hopefully) Valencia returns to his best or (muppet mode alert) we sign Sanchez.

It should be our 3rd priority, behind a GK and a new midfielder.

This

Cleverly and Ravel should be given a run in; and somebody said Fabio should also be tried out. One out of these three would do the job.

I think bale would be a great signing - would be a lot of money but Rooney/rio/Anderson/nani are all cheap deals when you consider that players with quality generally stay at old Trafford for 10 years plus

Would love for any potential long term signing to play with giggs and get a masterclass from him - plus bale is welsh so it is good for the squad also

Bale

But bloody hell, how good has this Giggs fella been of late. Unreal.

we opted to keep Vidic, nah in all seriousness Bale would be a great addition to the squad

Would love it if he went out and bought Bale.

Bale or Sanchez together with Nani and Valencia will solve our wingers position nicely for about the next decade

Gareth Bale is the natural successor to Ryan Giggs. He will be a United player.

I would have absolutely no qualms about buying Bale for around 40 million..

Would mean that we'd be sorted down that left flank and setpieces for the next 10 years or so...

80% of the league don't regularly use a left-footed winger on the left. Blackburn, Tottenham, Bolton and Stoke are the only teams in the league that regularly play one. Over 90% of the teams in the CL knockout stage don't use one, Bastos being the only regular I could find.

Suggests to me we don't really need someone left footed because it's not a requirement with modern-day tactics. Good option to have sure but not necessary at all.

Yes but they have a left-footed left back behind them. What happens if Evra leaves?

Bale is making a bit of an impression this season.

Before him, yes, I'd go with Robben. Although the fact he plays on the 'wrong' flank means he's not very traditional as a winger.

Robben would have been fantastic all those years ago if Chelsea had not come in and stolen him at the last moment. Way too injury prone now sadly.

We'll sign Bale or Modric and then sell them on to Madrid for Ronaldo+cash in 5 years time

From without:
Marin, Mata, Douglas Costa, Eden Hazard, Neymar, Ganso, Jeremy Menez, Taarabt

From with in:
Tom Cleverly, Ravel Morrison (perhaps),

Choose your poison.

Ganso's not a wide player.

Neither is Neymar...

Bale would be great, I'd be happy to see us spend big on him (around 30+m).
As someone said he is the natural successor to Giggs.

He's from Wales also so would be closer to home here, and of course who doesn't want to play for Manchester United. Give him another season or two, then tap him up and get him to refuse to sign a new contract or hand in a transfer request. :)
