Reading everything about us needing a winger.

We have at our disposal Nani, Valencia, Park, Obertain, & at a push Bebe - all of whom are right footed.

We don't have a left-footed winger at the club (unless we delve into the Youth Academy setup).

Keep seeing us getting linked with more right-footed wingers but are there any left-footed wingers you feel would be worth getting?

Tx

Bale

But bloody hell, how good has this Giggs fella been of late. Unreal.

I think it'd be 'handy' to have but I wouldn't go overboard and say we desperately need one. Nani will have no problems adjusting to the left again when (hopefully) Valencia returns to his best or (muppet mode alert) we sign Sanchez.

It should be our 3rd priority, behind a GK and a new midfielder.

Just to think would Giggs have gone on to become the legend he has if we'd signed Robben when we could've.. knowing Giggsy he'd just have adapted and carved out a new role for himself, but Robben has always been my favourite left winger of recent times who even merits comparison to Giggs in terms of style.

I'd love to see us find the new breakout left winger, Bale seems beyond our price range.

Robben's now a right winger, isn't he? So chances are it wouldn't have affected Giggs that much. Anyway he's played more of a squad players role in recent years. Fergie knows how to handle Giggs and Giggs knows Fergie will play him at the right times. They have the ideal player-manager relationship.

I know I'm deflecting, but it's been an utter joy to watch Giggsy these last two months. Is it me, or has he started taking people on more of late?

Er, diversion over. Sorry.

We do not necessarily need a out & out left footed winger, just as long as we can keep the width on the right wing. A tucked in playmaker - the role Giggs is currently THRIVING in, with Evra over lapping could do the trick as well, and still provide some cover for our midfield/defence. So it would be great to have another left footed option (ala Bale/Robben), but it is not a necessity and the players deemed "good enough" will probably bankrupt the Glazers

Robbens played the majority of his career as a left footer cutting in off the right flank, that is true, but he's also one of the very few top class left footers who can operate on the left wing exlusively and not look out of place or be rendered ineffective. Very good left winger too when he is put there.

We don't necessarily need left footed winger on the left, but its nice to have a left footed winger just for variety, and we've been blessed over the years by possessing the best left footed left winger in the world, its a rare art and Bale is rated so highly purely because he's a young member of a dying breed.

Sahin, Turan, Hazard, Marin, Bale, Mata, Douglas Costa

I don't believe Hazard is left footed?

Yeah, he's not, but his left is fine and he plays on the left and basically I don't care just shoved his name in for the sake of it.

We must buy him.

He's by far better on the right though because he has a decent left foot he can either cross with his best foot or cut in and strike on his left. Makes him horribly unpredictable for the defense and the opposition goal keeper.

I'd rather we signed a decent left footed winger, stuck him on the left, nani on the right and rotated Valencia. Valencia vs tired leg's would be an epic impact sub.

I hear this Giggs lad is alright.

That kid needs to lose those grey highlights he seems to be sporting, I also noticed he's one hairy bastard for just being out of the youth academy

we opted to keep Vidic, nah in all seriousness Bale would be a great addition to the squad

He'd be smashing good pace and power and can really whip a ball in with accuracy, the likes of berbs, nani and rooney would have a great time

Will be interesting to see SAF's policy here. Sometimes he goes for the best player that he can get for the money (he might not necessarily need the player: i.e. Veron, Ronaldo) other times he only gets exactly the player that he needs for that position i.e. Keane, van Nistlerooy.

While I agree with the sentiments that we do not NEED a left winger,if Evra leaves we have no left-footed left back OR left wingers!!!

I can't believe SAF will go with this so we'll be looking for a left-winger!

Vicente is like terminally fecked dude.

Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha - he should partner really well with Evra down the left. Heard he has really good left peg, scored some crackers with it recently.

Bale or Sanchez together with Nani and Valencia will solve our wingers position nicely for about the next decade

vicente.

plenty of cocks were tugged over him 8 years ago. only 29 still.

Same with Joaquin.

Its amazing to think that Vicente especially, and at periods of the past 2 seasons, Joaquin too, have become just backup wingers for Valencia with Mata and Pablo Hernandez prefered.

Back then people were suggesting we pay £20 million + for either one of them.

Nani is better with his left foot than 99% of left-footed wingers.

80% of the league don't regularly use a left-footed winger on the left. Blackburn, Tottenham, Bolton and Stoke are the only teams in the league that regularly play one. Over 90% of the teams in the CL knockout stage don't use one, Bastos being the only regular I could find.

Suggests to me we don't really need someone left footed because it's not a requirement with modern-day tactics. Good option to have sure but not necessary at all.

And even he plays on the right-wing quite often for OL.

And this is the answer to the supposed problem. It's nigh on impossible to find a world class natural left winger that won't cost the same as a world class forward like Andy Carroll

:smirk:

Pure wingers just aren't worth the admission money in the modern game, you need all-round attackers like Nani or Nasri who can give you a lot more than your Lennon's or Adam Johnson's.
