NCAA College Football 2018/2019

I thought this Shea Patterson was supposed the be second coming of (insert stud QB name from the past). He hasn't impressed me much this season from what I've seen. Looks quite average at this level. Could be he lacks top tier talent around him, or maybe it's on him.

the coaches havent let him do anything all year. its just been a conservative game plan. pep hamilton needs to go

@Carolina Red Do you ever feel concerned about the strength of schedule Clemson has faced? They have performed well in the playoff previously so maybe it's not that big of a deal. Also I really rate Lawrence, think he's as good if not better than Tua.

EDIT: Right as I type that, chunk play TD for SC...

Not really. We’ve got a tough enough out of conference schedule to make up for a down year in the ACC.

South Carolina has 545 yards of offense and got blown out by Clemson which has 744 yards of offense. Football is a different game than the one I grew up with.
I agree with this 100%. I used to think lots of offense would be great to watch but there is a limit. I watched the game between Oklahoma and West Virginia the other day and eventually turned it over to Washington vs Washington State. Two teams marching up and down the field scoring touchdown after touchdown is not football. Defense is part of the game. I don't want to see 9-6 every game but there is a happy medium and "the powers that be" in both college and the pros IMLTHO have gone too far with all the rule changes allowing offense to completely dominate.

I'm starting to worry the NBA is going in a similar direction.

Starting to?
The NBA is cyclical or at least has been. We are still only at levels (pts/game) that we saw in the 60s and 80s. What is worrisome to me however, is that we have jumped nearly 11 points/game in the last 4 and a bit seasons and if it continues on like this it will soon be like watching an all star game which will be an absolute turn off for me.

As far as football is concerned, the Big 12 has already reached ridiculous proportions IMLTHO and I'm now starting to worry that the trend is for the rest of football (both college and pros) to follow suit. I hope not. :(

Actually after posting the above, the irony is that we are on a football (soccer) web site and football is also going in that direction with everything being done to protect players and maximize offense. We of course (United) are stuck in the past with a coach that still believes that defense is the way to go.

NCAA needs to change that dumb rule on a player being down without contact. That entire artificial OT (also a stupid rule) game doesn't occur if Mond isn't ruled down.

More on the Faulk incident....
An LSU spokesman alleged that the man involved in the scuffle with Faulk punched LSU special assistant Steve Kragthorpe in the chest. Kragthorpe, who was once the offensive coordinator for the Tigers, has Parkinson's disease and a pacemaker.

The thing about the Big 12 is a bit of an anomaly, but with the growing popularity of the fast paced spread offense and the RPO putting defenses at a serious disadvantage with athletes in space while half the defense is still defending a run, it is going to take time for defenses to adjust.

It’ll go in a cycle as well though. Defenses are needing more fast players and fewer big guys in the box. Eventually someone is going to line up and run power right at those small fast defenses and have success and the cycle will start over again.

I hope so. I never thought I would turn away from two teams scoring lots of points but there is a limit. The straw that broke the camel's back was seeing all the missed tackles. It was like not only is defense not important but everybody has forgotten how to play it.

That is also due in large part to kids having been taught more than one way to tackle during their developmental years.

The folks in college football now are those who midway through their careers before college had the “heads up/heads out” style of tackling taught to them after learning their whole lives how to tackle a different way.

As it stands, I think OU sneaks in. The committee has already said they're factoring in the historically great offense against the horrific defense.

This is assuming Georgia doesn't foul everything up by beating Bama...

Defensive slugfest broke out here in the BigXII. We haven't even broken 60 combined points and it's the 4th quarter...
