NBA Playoffs

this is awful; they're getting pwned harder than I thought.

the sad thing is, earlier in the day they were showing old nba finals games from the 80s. I only watched 87 and 88, two lakers years, and despite my hatred for the lakers, it is oh so clear how much better basketball used to be.

maybe, but how many "exiting players" never won a nba final?

the spurs might be boring, but they won three titles and they are going for their fourth

Spurs are like the Germans, boring to death but highly efficient.

It's like football marcos, we love United because we show that we can win and be entertaining as well. It's the same with basketball. Lakers in the 80s and Bulls in the 90s showed you can win things as well as entertaining the spectators.

what's exciting is relative obviously.. i personally find efficient basketball entertaining. i dont think spurs are that boring. they have the power and efficiency w/ tim duncan, but have speedy exciting players like parker and ginobli.

Cavs have made a run. Their up by 1!

Cleveland are really shit. Them being in the finals just shows that as a competition the NBA is a joke. Lebron is still mainly hype. Spurs are a really good efficient team. They aren't as boring as people make it out.

most teams in the 80s were entertaining though

I noticed a couple years ago that the Spurs were the first American sports club to not call themselves World Champions. Thanks to the comments from players outside the US, like Ginobli and Parker. The championship banners correctly say NBA Champions.

Too bad the rest of the US sports clubs haven't followed suit. I suppose the only US sport that World Champion makes sense is NFL - since it's the only top professional league of it's kind.

yes, but you know what i mean, the only reason i watch nba games is because there are some argentinians playng there, otherwise, i'd turn of the telly or watch some other shite

I understand what your saying.... I only watch the odd Raptor game or anytime the Suns are playing so I can see the 2-time MVP, Captain Canada, Steve Nash play.... :D

Steve Nash is the reason why I supported Suns in the first place :D.
Great player, have that ability to make other players looked good.

Nash is slightly over-rated, although I'm not saying he's not a great player. Jason Kidd is the better all-around point guard. Put Kidd in Phoenix and you get a better passer and rebounder, a far superior defensive player, but you lose the outside shooting presence that Nash offers. But Kidd has the knack to find that open man that not even Nash can locate.

Nash didn't deserve the MVP in 04-05 - that was Shaq's and the voters got it wrong. I can't argue with the 05-06 selection. Losing Stoudamire was huge and Nash carried the Suns.

Not so sure about that....

2004-05
First Team All-NBA selection for the first time in his career. Posted highest assists average (11.5) in NBA since John Stockton in 1994-95. He was the only NBA player to average double figures in assists and one of three guards (Jason Terry, Mike Miller) to shoot 50 percent or better from the field (.502). Had career-high 49 double-doubles, including his second career triple-double with 12 points, career-high 13 rebounds, 12 assists in 27 minutes before resting during the fourth quarter vs. Philadelphia on March 30. Suns were 2-5 when Nash did not play and 60-15 when he did. Suns were 29-53 in 2003-2004 and then 62-20 the next year with the only major change being Nash.

Nash also had Marion and Stoudamire having monsters seasons, earning all-league honors that season. Stoudamire missed quite a bit of the 03-04 season and overpaid players like Hardaway and Marbury moaned and played terrible, leading to their departure.

Shaq was basically amidst a bunch of role players and has beens, though Wade had a tremendous rookie season. The Heat improved 17 games and were the top seed in the East. A 17 win jump isn't near a 33 game improvement, but credit must also be given to Marion breaking out and Stoudamire remaining healthy.

For my money, David Robinson is the only player I've ever witnessed that was the ONLY difference in a one season turnaround (his rookie season). Put Kidd in Phoenix in 04-05 and the Suns win 62 games (IMO). Kidd has taken lesser talented sides (Nets) to two NBA finals. Nash has yet to do such. And with more talent around him.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's ridiculous Shaq has only won 1 MVP, but take Nash away from the Suns in 03-04, they're still a sub-500% team....

Also, Kidd took two Nets teams to the finals but through the East, put them in the West and they don't make it out of the 1st round.
