NBA Playoffs

Spurs took Game 4. That probably spells the end for the Jazz. I can't really see anyone beating San Antonio. Just too much experience. IMO I think they've got a shot at multiple titles in the next few years before some of their key players (Duncan, Ginobili, Bowen) get older. They're boring but oh so effective.

PS - While we're talking about basketball, how about the lottery last week?
As a Celtics fan, all I can say is: 'oh, the humanity.'

Spurs have clinched it with a win in game 5. The lead is huge heading into the fourth. Boston got screwed but deservedly so imo. They tanked games down the stretch and look where it landed them.Portland now have a great core of Roy.Aldrige, and Oden plus with Zach Randolph as bait to shop around they have become a contender overnight. That is the beauty of the draft process.

PS- Kobe has just requested a trade away from the lakers. What the feck is going on!!

Today I heard some news that he has changed his mind.

Yeah, Kobe's such a vagina. What the feck does he think he's doing? Even if he actually wants to stay in LA now, he's just created a ton of press turmoil that will surely make the offseason a living hell for his bosses. I hope he gets traded to somewhere like Seattle or Memphis where he can ply his trade out of the spotlight in his own worthless misery.

Kobe will stay. Shame that such a talented player has so much off-court issues. Odom has been a flop for the lakers while trading Caron Butler for Kwarme Brown was such a moronic move.

Lebron has just put in an amazing performance to put cleveland 3-2 up in the eastern finals

LeBron's legend grows, carries Cavs to series lead

Now THAT was like Michael Jordan

Maybe better, because Jordan never quite did anything like what LeBron James did to the Detroit Pistons here Thursday. He scored a career playoff-high 48 points - including his team's final 25 points, and 29 of its last 30 - to lift the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 109-107 double-overtime victory over the Detroit Pistons

Amass every superlative ever used in describing a clutch playoff performance, and it would still fall a few adjectives shy of accurately portraying LeBron James' legendary, yes, legendary effort in what was already a memorable night at the Palace. Twenty-five straight points — every one of his team's points — from midway through the fourth quarter through the end of the second overtime.

No one ever has scored more points in a playoff game against the Pistons. The previous high was by Elgin Baylor, 47 in 1961. James had 48 in Game 5. No one ever has scored more than 50 points in a game against the Pistons.

Yes, Jordan had that big 63 against the Celtics in the 1986 playoffs, but that was in a loss. He had 55 in a Finals game, but it was early in the series. Jordan had 54 against the Knicks in a conference finals game, but not quite like this in taking on an entire team, one of the league's best defensive teams in a big game to take a 3-2 lead in the series and perhaps get to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history. And on the road, in a hostile environment with his teammates shrinking under the pressure.

"It's frustrating, we threw everything we had at him," Billups said. "We just couldn't stop him. He put on an unbelievable display out there. It's probably the best I have seen."

"This is the single best performance I've ever seen," said Cavs coach Mike Brown. "And I've been around some great players. I feel bad that my words don't do justice for what he did. He was awesome and at just 22 years old. Wow! That's all. Wow!"

I knew the warriors would win that game.

The Mavs lost all 3 games against the warriors during the regular season. Their style of play doesn´t fit them.

And I´m so glad Miami are out, they never deserved to win the title last year.

I'm from the States, more specifically, the Bay Area... which means I am required by birthright to be a supporter of the Golden State Warriors. After 13 years of not making the playoffs, eliminating the Mavs and that one win against the Jazz in the most entertaining style of play EVER, was the best postseason any Warriors fan could have hoped for.

I went to Game 3 of the Warriors/Mavs series at Oracle Arena and it was absolutely NUTS. It was like one huge party. The Warriors protected their house in dominating fashion and then went on to make the Mavs their personal property. All the Warriors fans knew what the outcome of the series would be even before it started. The Warriors have been owning the Mavs for two straight years now. Out of the 8 regular season meetings, the Warriors had won 7.

I'm surprised there is enough coverage of the NBA in England for people to be able to follow the NBA this thoroughly... This is great that I can talk hoops on this forum. I have to admit, I was a diehard NBA fan long before I was a United supporter...:nervous: It's great that I can express my divided love for the Warriors and United at the same forum.

oh, by the way, I would gladly die for the Warriors. :smirk:

I´m a Serb who lives in Sweden actually. Basketball is a very big sport in my country. I´ve been following the NBA since Divac was drafted by the Lakers in 1989.

Have you ever seen the SNL skit where the big fat Chicago Bears fans sit around talking about Mike Ditka? If so, you will understand where I am coming from on this in that I feel the same way about MJ that they felt about Ditka, but I don't feel Lebron is even close to comparable to MJ yet. If your life depended on the outcome of one game, who would you rather have on the team, MJ or Lebron? Until that answer changes, I don't agree with comparing the two. This isn't to say Lebron isn't a super talented guy.

wow...I started watching this series and must say it's the best I have watched since Kings-Laker one. And Lebron's got everything in him to overtake Jordan, that performance was something else.

I'm from Malaysia but now studying in the UK. No coverage at all..not to my knowledge anyway. Thank god for streaming coverage..

but I don't feel Lebron is even close to comparable to MJ yet.

MJ at 22 was in his rookie season and didnt even win the conference title till he was nearly 30. James at 22 is an all star MVP and is single handedly dragging his side to the Championship finals. MJ had other great players like Pippen and Rodman around him. Even during MJ's first retirement, Pippen lead the Bulls to the play offs and a couple of others were named all stars. If you take James out of the Cavs squad, they wouldnt even have a winning record in the regular season, let alone make the playoffs or the conference finals.

The Bulls sqaud which did the second three peat was perhaps one of the best in the league at that time. There were other players who made clutch 3 pointers, came up with crucial steals and scored buzzer beating baskets.
James is having to do it all mostly by himself with a mediocre group of players around him.

If your life depended on the outcome of one game, who would you rather have on the team, MJ or Lebron?

Thats a bit silly. Its like asking, who'd you rather play if your life depended on it - Pele or Maradona ? One was the greatest player in a class team whereas the other can inspire an average team to greatness.

Would MJ in a Cavs team have done what Lebron did against the Pistons in game 5 ? Score 29 of the last 30 points to inspire a double OT victory, facing a hostile crowd against the best team in the conference.

MJ struggled against the Pistons in the conference finals for 3 seasons when they double and triple teamed him. They finally won when he passed around them. Lebron doesnt always have the luxury of passing because the rest of them arent that good.

PS: No one is claiming that LeBron is greater than MJ, just that he has the potential to be and his performance in the last game was one of the greatest in playoffs history.

WHAT THE MEDIA IS SAYING -

"When they needed a two in the fourth, LeBron got them a dunk. When they needed a three in double-OT, LeBron got them a triple. When they needed a stop after Billups and Prince were taking turns putting it on Damon Jones, LeBron got a steal. When they needed a game winner with the game tied, LeBron got them a finger roll to seal the deal."

------------

"Not even Michael. Let us get that out of the way right now. What LeBron James did Thursday night in the Eastern Conference finals was not Jordanesque. It was Mike to a max not even he reached."

--------------

"King James played beyond his royal nickname Thursday, and in one of the epic performances in NBA playoff history, LeBron James refused to lose Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals."

-------------

"Welcome to true greatness. That's what the nation's basketball fans saw Thursday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills. In the biggest game of his life - they all seem to be that lately - LeBron James never was better."

--------------

"When the smoke cleared at The Palace Thursday, the Pistons were witnesses to one of the greatest individual performances anybody has seen perhaps since Michael Jordan retired."

------------------

"He made slam dunks. He made free throws. He made ridiculous three-pointers with the shot clock running down. He hung in midair and rattled the rim. Minute after hypnotic minute, LeBron James lifted into the air, suspended in a stratosphere from where only he could see the basket."

-------------------

"What LeBron James did last night ranks up there with the best we have and will ever see. Before last night, I felt Magic Johnson's championship clincher against the Sixers was the most impressive performance because of the stage and where he was in his career."

"But this performance rivals it because there was no cushion for LeBron and he carries the most responsibility by far in the entire league."

--------------------

The Pistons outrebounded Cleveland. They got great games from their All-Star guards, Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton, and they did a better job of taking care of the ball. However -- thanks to the ridiculous superhuman efforts of LeBron James -- Detroit lost its third straight game in the series and is on the brink of elimination.

---------------

It was truly an epic performance, and with the stakes being what they were, it was riveting to witness. It was TWENTY-FIVE POINTS IN A ROW in crunch time ... from a 22-year-old ... in a game that all but put his team of no-names in the Finals.

IK: I've never doubted Lebron has incredible potential. I'm not comparing him and MJ at the same point in their careers because they come from different eras/different basketball worlds. I'm saying I don't think Lebron will overtake MJ's legacy when all is said and done bc he doesn't exhibit the same type of intensity game in/game out.

The Pistons MJ played were probably a better team than the modern Pistons. And undoubtedly better coached.

The rules of the league were much different for defensive players back in MJs day, hand-checking etc. LeBron would've been slightly easier to guard in the days of MJ.

lakers suck.

oh yeah, and lebron was out of control the other night. that one goes down in history for sure. he's only gonna get better too.

your mom sucks. lakers do suck, which is why the management need to make something happen. kobe is not getting any younger and needs players now to form a championship-contending team.

lebron is good, but i'm not jumping on the lebron-fan bandwagon. i hope the spurs sweep them.

I hold my hands up and admitted that I thought LeBron was way overrated by the media. But boy did he proved me wrong in the series.
Not only he elevated his game, he actually living up to the hype. While I don't think LeBron can be mentioned in MJ level yet, I think he definitely the first player labeled "The Next Jordan" to actually capable of fulfilling it.

MJ was the greatest basketball player ever IMO because he's doing what LeBron did in the series consistently for a long period of time, and he got the rings to prove it. And I always admired the way he changed his game to a more post-up player than a slashing/dunking one.

One thing though, the double three-peat Bulls was a better team than the current Cavs. If he actually won the ring this time, I'll say he's close to be as good as Jordan was.

Spurs in 5 or 6. Too strong. They'd have beaten Detroit too.

If the Cavs can get a player like Jason Kidd or Jermaine O'Neal in the off-season, watch out.

:(

That was my apprehension as well. I was hoping for a Suns - Cavs matchup but the cheating cnuts Spurs kept fouling Steve Nash

Hoping that Gibson kicks on from his impressive performance this season and takes some pressure off Lebron

yeah, I don't expect Cleveland to beat SA this year;

but give them a few more supporting characters, and with lebron continuing at this rate, they'll be dominating the east for a while. there's much more to come from them, and in fact I think they're overachieving this year. despite lebron being pretty feckin good, both the cavs coach and all other players are relativel mediocre.

although im a laker fan, and i am upset that if spurs win they will have more championships than lakers in the past decade, i am becoming more fond of them. they've had the same group of players for a long time and are a solid consistent team. speed and strength, perimeter and inside game, they've won my respect.

I thought it was in game 4 or 5 where Spurs was getting away with some blatant fouls where they were leading by 1 or 2 points. It definitely took some momentum from the Suns attack. Not to mention the fecking cheat Horry that led to Diaw and Amare suspension :(.

Hoping that Gibson kicks on from his impressive performance this season and takes some pressure off Lebron
Cross fingers.
