NBA 2024-2025

Nah I don’t think that the idea of playing to get a top draft pick would be appealing to players, especially those that could be threatened due to positional conflict with the new guy etc.

Besides that would drive more tanking if anything. If you can tank your way to the bottom 14 and get a good chance of getting a top 1-3 pick in a stacked draft like the one this year, you are probably better off doing that rather than scrambling your way to the playoffs to lose in the first round.

Yea maybe, guess we will never know, they cant test ground it either.

Yea this is inside job, owners have no clue so got convinced by Nico after he and Pellinka created whole scam.

Indeed.

Rooting for all Big East teams, would be great to see either St John's or UConn or both in the final 4
Pitino vs Calipari is gonna be a marquee matchup this weekend. I will be rooting for Pitino. My daughter graduated St John’s in Queens so that will be my team for the tournament.

Portland wiped the floor with Denver, those 2 mfs on max have to go, specially Murray guy on max every year decides to show up from middle of it due being out of shape, putting stress on rest of the roster to keep team afloat in win column while he is getting into shape. Malone is lucky his main trait seems most important and thats being players coach, when it comes to real basketball he has no fecking clue, team can line up 5 bigs and he will still put 3 guards out there and then be pissed why they getting out rebounded. Booth should also go.

the deni trade was a steal. same with toumani. I don’t know what the future holds but I love that we are really good on defense. I used to pray for times like this.

The only negative I can say about the Blazers situation is that they probably traded Dame a year or two too late. Harden did us a favour by demanding a trade just before he fall off his prime. But yes, Toumani Camara is an unreal. One of my fav young players in the league. Still some ? over Scoot but the rest of them are legit. A young core of Canada, Sharpe, Scoot and Clingan + whoever you pick this year is a great place to be.

We’re on a 9 game winning streak, we’ve created some daylight between and some of the teams around us like Denver and Memphis, we’re the 2 seed in the big bad west, but yet all I hear is everybody can’t wait to play us in the playoffs. I actually get it, I would say the same if I was a Wolves, Warriors or Lakers fan, but it’s so jarring

I was gutted we included Camera in the Ayton trade. He looked like he would fit perfectly in our roster and he was a on a rookie’s contract. James Jones is maddening, he clearly has an eye for talent but doesn’t value them as much as they should be worth.

Maybe because you’ve got no superstars. Not that that makes you less of a team….but people associate superstars with fear, ‘what if player x goes nuclear’ etc etc

I think Scoot will be fine. He may not develop into a superstar but he’s already a good point guard. I’d want him to get more minutes and exposure though.

The pick this year, barring some lottery luck, will not be that good, so we need to be hoping that we can choose well from the second tier of high potential guys. Seems like this draft is going to have quite a bit of talent around the late lottery though and with a roster full of decent and good players we can take a swing at an untapped potential of someone with a lower floor but higher ceiling. We basically already have a team, only need a leader now, someone to carry it and elevate it to a higher level.

The Rockets team is also very young and it's the first season it is all coming together for them. Not sure about "can't wait to play against" in the playoffs, I would rather play the Grizzlies for example. Hell, the way the rest of the Nuggets team look I would be tempted to go against them before the Rockets.

This end of the regular season will show a lot as well.. Have to play Nuggets and Lakers 2 times and also have a game against the Thunder, Warriors, Clippers. Pretty brutal end of the season.

I think there is a different kind of game to be played in the playoffs and not a lot of your roster has exposure, things just get called differently and the intensity goes up a notch, you have to be ready for it. Not that I think it justifies some of the over confidence some fan bases have about facing Houston, but there are a few that have been there and done it already.

yeah I agree. If we can get rid of grant during the summer and get a decent return I’d be happy.

I’m still amazed that we were able to get rid of nurkic.

You are both right of course. You have to earn respect in the playoffs. A good regular season is just that, a good regular season. If I was any of those teams I’d probably want to take my chances with the Rockets before Lakers, Wolves and Warriors too. It’s just jarring that there’s this ‘oh you’re 2nd, how cute’ vibe when people discuss the Rockets

Same Nico who was hired by Cuban.

He’s distancing himself from the Luka trade, but ultimately he appointed the guy who wanted Luke out and sold to the owners that was ok with it.

Every time I see/hear Cuban in last year or so this peace of information instantly pops in my head.

Cuban bought the Mavericks for $285 million in 2000, netting him a $3.215 billion profit for the transaction.

Bad timing for the Lakers to lose 3 games in a row. I think at this point the #2 seed in the West is very favorable, if you're able to avoid the Warriors in the first round and don't meet OKC until the conference finals.

Everyone is struggling a bit behind the Thunder and Rockets aside of that Denver loss. Also, looking at the schedule it is bloodbath with most teams playing each other. Actually, the Clippers and the Wolves have probably the easiest run-in especially if the Clippers manage to win the Knicks game tonight. Have a good chance to avoid play in or it will be decided in the last game against the Warriors at home. And yeah, position 2 or 3 look like the best place to finish as you want to avoid the Thunder as long as possible.

Play-in hope probably gone for my Blazers now as results have been inconsistent lately (5-10 in the last 15) and Suns seem to be coming into their own and are now 3 games ahead. Still maybe some faint hope that Kings and Mavs both falter between now and the end of season, which isn't unlikely, but Blazers would probably need to go 7-2 in their last 9 at least to have a shot as I can't imagine that we'll be able to make it with less than 38 wins (Kings and Mavs are both at 35 already with 10 and 9 to play respectively).

Well, it's probably best to get a relatively high pick anyway.

Wolves were on a run for a while but that 8-game win streak didn't include any teams above .500 apart from Denver whose number they simply seem to have (think 3-0 against them this season and obviously last season in the playoffs). Losing against the Pelicans the other day is inexcusable, but helps for them that the Heat destroyed the Warriors in Curry's absence tonight. They've got quite a favorable schedule to close out the season indeed, can see them going 7-2.

I'd like to avoid Houston if it's possible. Even if you come out of that series, it's going to cost you a lot of effort and energy for a first round win because you just don't give up and will come at your opponent time and time again. Houston in the West and Detroit in the East are two teams that won't go all the way but have the ability to make a true contender work a lot harder than they wish to in the first and/or second round.

I'd have OKC, Boston, Cleveland as the three favourites with Denver and Lakers as dark horses - not favourites but you could see a way that Doncic/LeBron and Jokic go crazy and they win it all. Any other team winning the finals should count as a real surprise imo.

The whole West (aside of Thunder) is weird. Most teams had a run when you think they are serious contenders followed by setbacks with some inexcusable losses. But it will make for pretty exciting end of the season.

That is really awful news. Happy it is noticed on time and he will get a proper treatment. Always had a soft spot for Dame, especially when he was in the Blazers uniform.

I fancy our chances against anyone tbh, even the Thunder, as crazy as that may sound. We play a brand of basketball that actually, in theory, translates pretty well to playoff basketball. We're a very aggressive and physical defensive team. We get away with a lot of fouling. We've been comfortable all season long playing in low scoring, ugly, physical slug fests. We have a lot of strength in depth. We have an endless supply of long athletic wings to throw at teams. The thing we're missing, our biggest weakness, is that we don't have a Luka, Steph or Jokic who we can reliably go to to win us games in close situations. That is a pretty big weakness tbf.

Massive win for the Lakers, a bit lucky in the end but well deserved as I think that was the first lead for the Pacers after the 1st quarter. Massive win because if they lost you suddenly look behind you also as the Clippers won in Madison and are looking good atm. Kawhi is back playing well, but the question is always for how long (played most minutes last night).

Cooper Flagg putting on a show tonight for Duke. The number one pick in the draft is going to be a superstar in the NBA next year.

It will be a change for Duke to play in the SEC invitational.

Wheels coming off Lakers season it seems. I've said it before that Luka, with the Lakers, is playing his worst basketball since his rookie season but it was going under the rug because the Lakers were winning. Now that the defense isn't working, his inefficient offensive output is going to get the limelight more.

It's still the first season though and outside of getting the gel with the new team, I think he's still under mental stress from the trade. Hopefully a summer off can help him get into tune for the next season.

This is the full sequence of events in the final minute plus, gets really good around the 1:30 mark. Epic comeback and meltdown. Also, LeBron fouled Giddey's left hand on that shot but probably wasn't seen by officials, guaranteed LeBron would have flopped/whined if reversed.
