NBA 2024-2025

@Sarni have you been following scoot this year? he is finally getting to start and has been the great last few games.
He’s been great the last few games but super underwhelming prior to that (granted he was playing a backup role that he was probably not very well suited to). Hasn’t really made the leap I was hoping for overall but good to see him showing signs of promise lately.

The team is years away from competing anyway. Clingan has shown promise as well, Sharpe has been good and is probably the closest to being ready to make a leap. These things can change fast with young teams though, Rockets were nowhere near and two years later they are comfortably in the playoffs zone, Thunder went from play in to the best in conference in a short time as well. Hope it happens to us in the next 2-3 years.

I agree. I can’t wait for us to get rid of chauncey after this season is done. I hope we get some good picks and offload simons and grant soon.

Ayton too though we aren't getting anything back for him so we may as well let it ride for the remaining two years of his contract. At this point I doubt we are getting any good assets for Simons or Grant either.

I I hope you find your 1A guy in the next year or two. I’m not sure Sharpe, Scoot or Clingan are that. We don’t have one either, which is what differentiates us from teams like the Thunder. We’re in a good place because we’ve hit on pretty much every relevant draft pick the last 3 years so we’re stacked with young talent all at a similar level but we’ve not found yet found our 1A go-to guy.

Spurs absolutely lucked into Wemby, and he’s fast tracked their rebuild.

If you guys can luck into a top 3 pick this year, you’d be a wonderful position to upgrade your coach and start taking winning seriously.

I don’t think we can trade ayton before the end of season. he isn’t doing great and I don’t see many teams eager overpay for him.

Ok i understand potential position value of those picks but why you would trade 3 for 1 if you aint Marty McFly, least fav pick doesnt mean they gonna be 25-30, what if those teams have injuries that sink them in 1-10 draft pick vs 2031 frp 6 years from now, value based on out of someone`s ass prediction that Suns gonna be worst team on the planet and even with that, its not 100% 1st pick.

Yeah the top 3 in this years draft looks solid, all of them. Flagg would be perfect of course but Bailey and Harper look tremendous as well. To be fair even some of the other top 10 talent looks way better than top 3 of last year’s draft (I am glad we landed Clingan as in terms of having a role in the NBA he looks like he is already there).

I was hoping Scoot could be that guy but he’s probably at best going to be a very good second option.

Found it strange at first but then looked at it closer and it makes some sense. Jazz have a ton of picks anyway and the roster is only 15 players big anyway. This year they will give up a no. 29 or 30 as Cleveland will have one of top 2 records in the league, it’s basically a glorified second round pick. Likewise 2027, Cavs are still going to be a great team, they are very young. 2029 is a toss but it’s the worst of 3 picks so chances are at least one of them will be very good (and Cavs should still be in that timeline).

Meanwhile Suns are a big uncertainty. Durant will be gone by then, Booker probably too or nearing retirement at least., they don’t currently have any young talent to fill in and they have basically committed all their picks between now and then. This could very well be a tasty pick… on the other hand everyone had been raving over the value of Miami’s 2021 or 2022 pick a while ago, and then they got Butler. These things change fast. It’s a risk worth taking though as you are swapping three (very) late firsts for a chance of a good pick.

As a Suns fan, I was apprehensive about it at first, but it makes sense for us. We won’t be using any of these in the draft, they will all be trade assets. As crazy as it sounds, we are so deep in with this team, I’d rather we go in further.

It is looking a real possibility that we trade Nurkic and Beal, and add Butler plus another big. It makes our team way more balanced.

We could really do with a bigger point guard too, but there are rumours we are after Deni Advija but that doesn’t make a lot of sense for us if we secure Butler.

Yea get that, even majority of those picks aint set in stone position wise besides this year, just dunno, also does value of picks changes from trade type perspective, like if you doing a trade with Suns, 2031 has more value in your eyes vs those 3 or its a same shit in 2 team trade(?) vs 3-5 team trades where you giving those picks to teams that sometimes seems not care either way as long they have it.

Absolutely it makes sense from Suns perspective. Your timeline is now and you need to do everything possible to improve the team around Booker and Durant.

Can’t see us trading Avdija to you, we have just traded two picks and Brogdon who had some value himself to acquire him. Trading him away for a worse pick or two would be pointless. Butler will be complicated in that this will require Beal to waive his no trade clause, and for Miami to even want him (though I would probably expect them to redirect him somewhere else in that trade, heard Brooklyn being mentioned which makes total sense).

Suns will probably trade it for 2 role players or package it with Beal for Butler. From that perspective the receiving team will prefer the three firsts, two of which are within the next 3 years, than a very distant first which has more value to teams like Jazz who will only approach their timeline around then (Jazz are probably positioned the worst in the league in terms of talent currently on their roster and their long term prospects).

Beal looks likely to the Bucks. All the best Suns reporters have confirmed he would waive his no-trade clause if we can do a deal with them, and they are trying to trade Connaughton to free up space for Beal. Apparently there is a 4 team trade in the works at the moment.

The front office is hell bent on Butler, but I’d rather we get 3 good role players around Booker/Durant. We need a bigger point guard and a big who can put pressure on the rim, that’s been our biggest downfall for about 4 years now.

Yea makes sense i guess, we shall see how things gonna pan out. Like this season nobody predicted that 76ers will be even close of thinking about maybe going for that pick. @Sarni

Things change fast indeed, very hard to predict who will be good and who won't 6 years from now. There are some teams out there that you can pretty much be certain are going to be good in that timeline, Cavs are one of them so trading away what are probably going to be their picks made sense from Jazz perspective (Garland is 24, Mobley 23, Allen 26 and even Mitchell at 28 has plenty of fuel left). Likewise, you wouldn't really want any of the Thunder picks in the next 5-6 years.

Haven't been up to speed with trades landscape, the only NBA podcast I listen to these days is No Dunks and I'm not able to catch all the episodes anyway (I've cut down to one podcast per topic as was feeling overwhelmed by having 5-6 NBA podcasts alone to catch up on).
