NBA 2024-2025 ; Lakers Land Luka

This thread proves how poor the NBA is right now, not even 40 posts in the last 25 days. No idea how they change it but it's not looking good

A 3 point contest is boring. I enjoy the NBA cup stuff though.

How you feeling about the Randle/KAT trade these days? I think I remember you not being a fan of it at the time.

I was actually thinking about that while typing the post you quoted. I don't like it and never will but I understand that it was necessary. I just hope that I'm correct and Randle is traded within the next 7 months and ideally before the trade deadline, he is a decent player but a bad fit and managing him as an asset creates lineup issues.

No idea wether the ratings decline has anything to do with politics. For me it’s mostly due to the fact that a single regular season game simply doesn’t matter at all and the players play like it. No point in staying up late for games nobody cares about.

Anybody watching?

Cracking game between the Spurs & the Knicks

Great game. Wemby was great, Bridges was amazing.

No idea why Wemby wants to play like he’s prime Steph. He’s unplayable in the paint but he just wants to hang around the perimeter when his team has possession.

I assume it’s under instruction? I feel like he used to get in the paint for alley-oops more in his first season….whether the ball came or not

Another classic Lebron vs Steph matchup. Lebron with 30 and 10 with only one turnover, Steph hitting some crazy shots to drag the warriors back into it before Reaves clutched it out at the death. Celtics lose Lakers win Merry Christmas you filthy animals.

Steph and LeBron are both slowing down a bit, but they can both still do it on the big stage.

Bob Myers said on ESPN yesterday that the NBA only had 3 superstars, LeBron, Steph and KD. I suppose I'll miss them all when they're gone....

....even LeBron.

Halfway through Cavs vs Nuggets. Cavs with 80 points in the first half.. The Nuggets should definitely do better, but these Cavs are really good watch with the variety of their attack. It's not only mindless 3 point shooting.

As for the Kings, yeah that is pretty bad look, but they also looked absolutely shit this season.

Yeah the Cavs are sweet to watch. Watching Hawks Heat at the moment - I like watching Trae - 7 assists in the first quarter. Something nice about watching a guy who isn’t 6 ft 8 affect the game so much

Didn't watch the Hawks this season, will try to catch some game as they look like a possible dark horse in the East. Trae assist numbers look very impressive.

Interesting to note, Draymond Green hit his 700th 3 pointer against the Suns.

He now has 50 more than Larry Bird.

8 for 8 on 3 pointers tonight from Steph. It doesn't happen quite as often as it used to, but when he's on, he's still the most entertaining player the NBA has seen since Jordan.

Entertainment value like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but when hundreds of people turn up hours before a game just to watch you warm up, to me that says it all.

He may not be the best since Jordan, but for sheer entertainment value, IMLTHO (apart from maybe Kobe), it's not even close.

Iverson?

Iverson had tremendous ball handling skills and was certainly fun to watch. I don't think those skills are quite as good as either Kyrie or Steph for that matter, but you're right, he was definitely a great entertainer.

sure if you want to rate warm ups id give you that but yeah, no point of arguing as everyone sees entertainment differently....

rate him insanely high, best ever pg in my book and very high overall but if we strictly speak entertainment then give me Vince Carter any day of the week - best ever dunker, great skills, can shoot and can pretty much do anything you love to see on the court.
Then there is white chocolade if you prefer trick passing over dunks etc.

steph is also great to watch dont get me wrong but just outside top 5 post MJ era.

I see where you're coming from with Vince and if I was watching him in a dunk contest at the all star game, he was definitely worth a watch. However, the number of times you got to see the kind of dunks he performed in the all star game in a real game was miniscule. The thing about Steph is that, not only is he the best shooter ever, his ball handling skills are off the charts as well. In addition to that, he's also a supreme showman. I've heard multiple players and commentators say that a 3 pointer from him (especially once he gets on a roll) is worth more than 3 because it fires up his own crowd and demoralizes the other team (both players and fans). How many times have you heard a commentator say "that the air has gone out of building" or the crowd has gone silent when he's hit a big 3. He did it to Boston in 2022 and France at the Olympics. There's a reason Warriors tickets are usually the most expensive (especially when they're on the road) and it's not Kevon Looney.

Almost forgot. As some of you may have noticed, I'm a big fan of Curry, but there's no way he's the best PG of all time. It's not a knock on Steph, because by the definition, he's not really a point guard. It's possible you could argue that he's the best player to have played the position or actually be designated as a PG but as a "pure" point guard, that's not Steph.

A couple of players that were appointment watching for me (you can tell my age and when I was really into watching the NBA :) )

1. Young Shaq - He was an absolute unicorn, and paired with Penny it was mesmerizing.
2. Vince Carter
vince-carter-vince.gif
3. Iverson - Guy was absolutely fearless. He would tear apart the current NBA with the rules the way they are as he was basically Ja before Ja was Ja.
4. Orlando Tracy McGrady - Could do Kobe things, but made it look effortless.
5. Young Jay Williams - feck motorcycles

i mean steph is brilliant and i love the guy, but from enterteinment standpoint i prefer Vince.

rarity of dunks compared to shooting brilliance of steph is a great point although i would say that at his peak around the Toronto days it was guaranteed show every single game.

What do the car’s resident NBA fans think of the ‘nobody wants to watch 3-point contests’ stuff that’s permeating the media at the moment?

Personally, I’ve absolutely no problem with it

nobody wants to watch all star crap sll together, i mean its just pointless and no fun at all considering nothing is on the line....

whichver side loses all their players give 5% of year salary to charity, one simple charity move and you turn a circus show that nobody gives a feck into one of the best sport events on the planet.

It can be pretty boring. I remember watching a game, can't remember who were playing, and they were just walking in and chucking threes, which got boring. That's why I love watching Jokic play, he mixes a lot of inside and outside play, along with his playmaking, that makes the game more fun.

I can definitely say my interest in the league has waned over the last 5-6 years. It's probably a mix of things (being on the East Coast so Lakers games are insanely late, limited free time, etc.) but the product itself is absolutely a factor. My favorite period was the early 2000's and the game just doesn't seem as "fun" as it was then.

Or maybe I am just old and grumpy.

For me it's not just the 3s but the way team operates offensively as a whole. The 2015 season is an example, in the top 5 in 3PA in my opinion only the Rockets weren't all that fun to watch as a team, Harden's highlight's were fun but not the overall offense.

But the thing that bothers me the most about the regular season is the lack of defense and the fact that you can't play physical, intensive defense without taking the risk of being punished both by the refs and the schedule.

I actually meant the regular league, agree the All Star game’s awful

Yeah Jokic is ridiculously fun.

My thing with the volume of threes is that it’s not illegal, teams can either defend against it better or lump being beaten if the other team’s shooting hot.

Are Lakers games fun at any time?

To be fair I’m a new fan, so I don’t know if it used to be better or not, I just find the complaints about threes odd. Also….maybe you are old and grumpy

How dare you (get off my lawn)!

Yes they were, but I was a kid of the Showtime Lakers (dad took me to games up in the rafters of the old Forum) and the Kobe/Shaq teams were while I was in HS/college, so I was pretty lucky.

You can't really defend better against it, at least not in the regular season.

So I’m watching a re-run of the Celtics Wolves game, where there were like 97 3-point attempts. Honestly…..this is one of the more entertaining games I’ve watched recently

What a damn performance by Wembanyama against Jokic and the Nuggets. That Wemby block on Jokic right at the end to win the game was exceptional.

Say what you will, but Wemby's 3 point shooting %'s are higher than Durant and LeBron' s were at this point in their careers. He's just adding layers to his game this season. He's pulling centers out to the edge of the 3 point line, he's that good right now all over the court.

He's absurd. The evolved version of KD basically - Slimmer Reaper

The problem with the emphasis on 3 point offense is that watching players make off ball runs to get open for 3s is not as exciting as watching a players trying to go one on one against his defender.
