NBA 2024-2025 : All Star Weekend

3/21 and 0/6 is nasty work.

They struggled to get a couple of games over the line in recent games, you felt like a loss was coming soon.

Yeah, this was the game where everyone assumed the streak will come to an end. Would still be encouraged if I were the Cavs fan, they hanged in there until the very end despite Garland's terrible shooting night and pretty much everyone in Boston having a great one. Mobley has also really grown into his role.

It still rightfully feels like Boston is the best team in the league whether it comes to defense or offense.

Wow

I think the Cavs will revert to the mean eventually. Boston will finish as the top eastern team, and if the Knicks figure their shit out, it will probably be a good fight between the Knicks and Cavs for the 2nd seed. Magic look pretty good too, despite missing their best player.

Dalton Knecht for ROY?

It's a long season, and he's only been starting in the last couple of games. Edey could have say in this. Bub Carrington on the Wizards has looked fantastic and this McCain kid in Philly looks insane in Maxey and Embiid's absence.

The Lakers struck gold with Knecht, just what they were missing. Actually, any team would be thrilled to have him.
Nail on the head, spacing and scoring wing is what we've been missing for several years now. Great pick in that respect (and AD at the 5 also helps with the spacing issue).

9 for 12 from deep, 37 points, +/- of +18

Pretty good game from the Cavs, awful one from Garland as he couldn't hit the ocean. This could be the East finals easily.

It was especially tough for him since all their wings were out and they could just hunt him on defense. Was surprised Porter didn't play more down the stretch.

CLE at BOS was a nice regular season game, it must be said. CLE are a good team, a legit deep run pretendent if you want, too early for a more rounded call. On the other hand, West is as usual too stacked, po slugfest incoming.

Those who saw Arvydas in his prime in the 80s, is Jokic basically a modern-day version of?

Was 14 when he came into NBA, but his prime was definitely in Europe and that athletic version you saw mostly in Žalgiris was gone. My memories of him are mostly attached to either NBA or national team tbh. The Blazers version could barely move sometimes as opposed to his younger days and despite that was still pretty great which is a testament of how good he was.

As for the styles, I wanted to say Sabonis used his physicality more during younger days, but in retrospect that's not the case, it's just that Jokić has more languid style. Was a great shooter and a fantastic passer. Many will point at assist numbers as clear difference, but I think peak Sabonis numbers would considerably went up in modern day NBA, more so if the team was built around him.. And he was that good that it would be.

In short and for me, yes (even thought about this comparison before). Although, with Sabonis, it's more of a case of "what if.." But I have zero doubts that peak Sabonis could dominate in NBA whether we are talking about 80's, 90's or today.

Big fan of both players as well.

I'm somewhat biased, but, I've got a feeling that by season's end, Stephon Castle will end up as ROTY. He's a true sleeper because folks on here just pay more attention to Lakers and 76'ers than the Spurs, but what Castle has done this year so far, for a team like the Spurs that has been without Sochan and Vassell pretty much all season, and even in the absence of Wemby too, and still look like a veteran....it's incredible.

We were without our three best scorers and still toppled the Thunder, the best team in the west, because Castle was so good on both ends of the court.

Like I said, everyone's looking at Knecht and co, because the optics on a team like the Lakers, but folks should be anticipating Castle. Lebron knows what's up, that's why he gave Castle special attention post-Laker's game.

I am biased toward Jokic but comparing Arvydas and Nikola is a bit crazy. Sure, Sabonis is a legend, but neither style nor contribution are similar to Nikola's game. Divac and Sabonis are comparable both stylistically and statistically. Those older than me say that Kresimir Cosic and Nikola Jokic have a lot in common. I can't confirm that.

Jokic is a bball savant who makes the game easy for both him and teammates. No wonder that Denver turns into stupid when he is off the court.

What on earth has happened to Haliburton?

Franz Wagner the Lakers killer

Bron and AD choked at the end. 6 FTs near the end between Bron, AD and Reaves. They make 2. Then Franz hits the dagger. Glorious stuff.

How the hell did we lose that? That 4th quarter was pitiful.

Lakers HT Nuggets FT still one of the best bets in sports. Two bad losses in a row at home. AD was horrible today and cost us against Orlando. Needs to step it up if he wants mvp consideration.

Jokić is a treasure... trying a full court tap to beat the buzzer ffs. I mean, the audacity to even try that shit

Imagine Westbrook from 5-6 years ago and Jokic... O my. It would have been domination never seen before. Westbrook is a better defender than Murray, better passer and has higher bball IQ. He is even better shooter than this version of Jamal. While on the topic of Jamal... What did happen to this guy? How do you go from playoff performer of highest caliber to such mediocre player in a regular season. He is out of shape all the time. I have never seen a player that is more often out of breath with hands on the knees.

Jamal was a bit overrated to begin with. Sure he had good spells but he was never consistently at All-Star level

Jokic is definitely a candidate for this question…..

So I’m sat on my arse with a week off work and Im thinking

If you had to pick one NBA players YouTube highlights to watch to put you in a good mood, who would it be?

Personally it would either be Jokic or Ja

Vince Carter or Allen Iverson for me.

Jason Williams, Tracy McGrady, and of course Kobe. More of the old guys; currently I guess early Ja is a good shout, or Curry when he gets going - not so much "fun" but just to be in awe of.

80s Jordan, when he was at his most athletic, has got to be worth a watch.

From today, as you have mentioned, Jokic is definitely worth a look. For just pure entertainment, it's got to be Steph. Not just for his long distance shooting, but his off court trick shots just leave you in awe.

Larry Bird is another to take a look at.

That is easily the most I've been impressed with the missed shot in basketball. Also, you have to laugh when you see this and know there are players around the league who refuse to take 'bad' shots not to ruin their stats.

Great call. I still go to his videos from time to time.

Since am a sucker for a good pass, I will add Magic to this company.

white chocolate and travelling, name a more iconic duo

Jokic, because his game is smooth and effortlessly. Larry Bird is my first basketball hero(and still is), when I was 16-18 years old.

The others would be Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Barkley, Derrik Rose, Kyrie Irving, Haliburton, Steph, Tracy Mcgrady. I quite like some players who are very aggressive when attack the rim like Giannis or Lebron or young Charles Barkley too.

When it comes to flair Hakeem is the King. Pete Maravich and Magic Johnson also come to mind. Larry Bird, Kobe :(, Jordan, Steph... All these players have or had a lot of flair in their game. The king of anti-flair is Lebron.

Jokic passes are incredible but his post moves are not that aesthetically pleasing. He is a bit of a bully and uses chicken wing move time to time. I love him, but have to be honest. When it comes to Serbian king of flair, that is Teodosic. He did have a short NBA career so he can be mentioned here.

I forget some old-heads like Pete Maravich, Dr.J( ABA/late70s-80s), Nate Archibald, George Gervin(with his silky finger rolls)....a lot of guys.

I know it's not the NBA but there's no other thread on basketball.

We just beat Italy away to almost clinch our Euro spot. We're 34 spots below Italy in the rankings and missing our best player. Absolutely insane win.

I had no idea who “we” were, so I had to look up who played Italy. Username checks out. :)

That’s a hell of an accomplishment considering country size. Your country seems to constantly punch above its weight.
