NBA 2024-2025

Luka, Sabonis, Porzingis, Bogdanovic, Gobert, Wagner, Markkenen, Siakim, Sengun, Murray, Wiggins… there’s plenty decent players
You can even add Kyrie (he is working on being eligible to play for Australia where he was born), Embiid, Hachimura et al.

Then you'd be changing the entire meaning of being an all star. Considering how those selections factor into contracts with the current CBA I can't see them switching it up that drastically. Consider me old school but you have to be an all star to play in the all star game. You could have a world vs USA rising stars match but for me only the selected 24 should be in the all star game.

Yep you would.

But the format has sucked for 20+ years, hence them trying different things like this year. The players don’t care. If it became a regular thing then the clauses in contracts would change accordingly.

It would be really be an interesting match, starting XI ROW would be better but the bench strength for USA would be stronger.

As a very casual fan of the NBA, maybe someone can explain to me what the hell has gone wrong with the All Star break.

When I was a kid in the 90s, the ASG festivities were awesome, and fans seemed to universally love it.

3pt contest; dunk contest; All Star game, standard rules, East vs West, and the guys all pretty much said the hell with defense and put on an entertaining show.

Why does something like that not work anymore?

Trying too hard to be cool. Wtf is Mr Beast going there? Seriously! The best part of basketball IMO is that it can ebb and flow when the game is allowed to breathe. Yet there’s a fixation in American sports coverage for breaks galore. We had like 20 minute games there and probably (what felt like) 10 times that length in ad breaks.

The people want to watch their favourite players.

That's the thing in the 90s they were still playing defense and the games were relatively normal in terms of effort. In the 2010s and especially the late 2010s they stopped playing defense which culminated to 2024 with a final score of 186-211.

Watched my first full NBA game in years last night and holy crap was it.. uninteresting? It reminded me of someone, poorly, playing NBA2K. Launching, and missing, 3’s from everywhere and a thousand turnovers.

Also, Luka looked completely out of shape. He was winded and grimacing after one sprint upcourt for a layup.

I think Luka is no longer in just a physical slump but in a huge emotional slump as well. I think sadly that Dallas did see some major problems. It looks like some sort of reality hit Luka as well. Maybe I am panicking too early, but this does not look good. In his press he said that he used the break to take mind away from basketball. Nothing wrong with that, but it does seem that he is in some sort of crisis for which Dallas did not have patience for. Will the Lakers?

Last year Luka said that he loved living in Dallas and Texas, it's one of the players that has been open about being where they wanted to be. So being traded the way they did probably hit him particularly hard, I know that the same was true for Gobert and Utah but both the Wolves and Jazz asked him if he was okay with that particular move and let him decide.

It's been 3 games out of which two were with minutes restrictions. The lack of a decent big pretty much guarantees we won't be able to compete in the stacked west this year unless we can somehow small ball our way to the title. I think the main issue is JJ still hasn't figured out how to incorporate Lebron, Luka and Austin into the same offense. It'll take a week or two before the offense clicks I think but the roster makeup ensures the defense will be an Achilles heel especially against the teams like Denver and Minnesota.

It is also worth mentioning that Kyrie and Luka also didn't clicked from day one. Thy actually regressed in form after Kyrie joined but that was also partly because they wanted to tank to keep draft pick.

The players can’t be bothered because the ASG is meaningless once they’re voted on the team which helps them get their max extension.

Rings culture means their season is considered a bust if they don’t win a ring and nobody is going to play competitively in the ASG when the playoffs is drawing near.

The ASG needs to be rethinked. It should be at the start of the season since it’s a fecking popularity contest.

Social media and the nature of online highlights has made these guys scared of getting embarrassed. It's cooler to not try than it is to get dunked on.

A lot of this comes from the best players in the league who disproportionately set the culture - Lebron especially. Let's not forget he had all footage confiscated after he got dunked on at his camp by an attendee.

Wemby out for the season with a blood clot in his shoulder. Seems a bit odd, but then I know jack about this sort of thing.

So unlucky. Upper DVT can happen to athletes who use their arms as the repetitive movements compress the veins eventually injuring the veins and initiating thrombus formation.

Get well soon, Wemby.

Damn, that sucks. Hope it isn’t something that hampers his career.

I wonder what that means for DPOY. Wemby was a shoe-in for it.

Gobert! Gobert! Gobert!

On a serious note, looking at defensive win shares I noticed that in the top 10 only one player from the East is represented, that's Tatum. Otherwise there is two players of the Wolves, Thunder, Rockets and Clippers. And there is 7 players from the West in the following 10.
