NBA 2024-2025 : All Star Weekend

There are quotes of unnamed GMs saying how they would trade everything, now dunno whats their possession to give it a value but i bet there would be teams ready to jump on it, this whole thing is just mental, dunno for whom that guy works but he aint working for Mavs thats for sure.

Luka is better offensively than AD but AD is ofcourse better defensively. What Nico might be thinking is AD right now is a 25ppg player playing with a ball dominant LeBron, maybe putting him at the center of the offence can potentially make him a 30 ppg player while keeping him great on defense. Regarding the future, it's clear that the future was going to be difficult with Luka as well given they were severly limited in their squad building activities. They already gave up their future to bring in Kyrie and were in a 'win-now' mode already, they just believe this trade gives them a better chance.

Again, there is also the possibility that Mavs didn't want to give Luka the Supermax and knew they eventually had to trade him. I suppose the logical thing to do then is open trade offers, where they could get a ton of draft picks back, but it seems they only wanted AD since they didn't want to lose the 'win-now' situation given they have a decent group and Kyrie.
I think someone said it here best earlier, the Mavs spent the last 5-6 years building a team around Luka when they finally reach the NBA finals and are so close with Luka entering his prime they decide to blow it up. For what ?

And I rate AD and think he's being a tad bid disrespected, but this trade makes absolute no sense. Idk how money works in the NBA but AD aint even selling half the jerseys Luka does. There's not one aspect of this trade that makes sense.

AD plus 1 first is an awful return for Luka. Even you think AD with Kyrie gives you a great a chance at a title, it’s still a horrible return. You have Luka. A 25 year old Luka, in his prime, and all you got in return a 31 year old, injury prone AD and a first.

I don’t want to disrespect AD. He’s a fantastic player, one of the best in the league, but it’s Luka Doncic. Even if everything you’re speculating on turns out to be spot on, it still doesn’t come close to justifying a) trading Luka, and b) green lighting a package that only gets them AD and a first in return.

This is like when you're football manager create a new player as Bayern manager and organise a Kane-Hojlund swap then retire as Bayern manager.

Fox to Spurs, Lavine to Kings, Bulls get a pick back.

Spurs win but I reckon they could have done better than Fox if they’d stayed patient. Not a bad deal though.

Bulls finally get rid of that Lavine contract. Hopefully this means a proper reset.

It's a well known story how Nike lost Steph Curry because they screwed up the presentation, calling him Seth instead of Steph and repurposing a presentation they had used for Kevin Durant and forgetting to remove the picture of KD.

Well, it turns out the guy that did all that just traded Luka Doncic to the Lakers for Anthony Davis and some magic beans.

Nico Harrison, step right up.....

The point being...Thunder (Despite losing are a better team and more when Chet returns), Timberwolves, Rockets, Cavs, Celtics and Knicks are all better irrespective of whether Dallas have Luka or AD.

They just traded away their long term future for a slightly higher chance to make this season play-in (which I doubt now if AD takes time settling in), making this a dumbass move!

In those pictures Luka doesnt look like he is 260-270lbs as reported

So Kings got 3 1st FRPs, 3 2nd FRPs Lavine for Fox(lol), Bulls got their own pick back and thats it, Spurs got their guy to pair with Wemby

....you know what? Mavs new owners are apparently the most racist, horrifying arseholes in the league. They are among the big king makers of the republican party - trump and everything that's happening is their fault

Nico Harrison is african-american

Maybe he just went "screw these assholes" ?

Spurs hardly gave up anything for Fox here, like I expected really (probably even cheaper). The only real valuable asset there is the 2031 Wolves pick… otherwise it’s a bunch of second round picks, a late first from them and a couple of salary fillers.

Kings fans were asking for a kings ransom but I knew reality would hit them in the face. LaVine is a good player to have if their aspirations truly is to stay in contention but ultimately they’re just headed for the treadmill now. Sabonis, DeMar, Monk, Murray and LaVine Is a decent starting 5 but it won’t get you anywhere special.

Does this deal make Lakers the favorites?

No. They even went few steps backwards, but they obviously couldn't care less as they probably now have Luka for 7 or 8 years of his peak. You don't miss that opportunity. Doncic - Reaves - LeBron without a big doesn't get you far with all of them wanting the ball and having their issues on defence. I do wonder if they will pull the trigger on Reaves now to try and make it more balanced though. Or they will just add a big with some other tradable peaces and have Reaves coming of the bench.. In any case, they are not done with the trades yet.

Just seen that Dallas press conference. Feckin hell, Jason Kidd looked like he has just seen a ghost. Nico Harrison trying to crack a joke from time to time made it all seem even more awkward.

They will probably go for a play in this season and dismantle this team in the offseason… unless they already trade Sabonis now and go for the tank (which they should). Plenty of assets they can still grab for him and Monk.

Didnt even know Harrison pitched the idea 1st, not the Lakers.

As for the other things, I get it, without a big mane there no favorites but this one is for the future.

What in the world is a 2nd FRP?

To be precise, in reality they are getting two first round picks and four second round picks.

If only the Wolves could get Sabonis.:(

On that note, could we get Harrison on the Kings right quick? We would like an order of Sabonis and Monk. In exchange Pelinka can offer him a bathrobe signed by Kobe and an Austin Reaves picture, also signed by Kobe

Fair deal

You guys should send us your 2031 FRP for Williams and Grant.

In a world where you can get Doncic for Davis and not much else, or Towns for Randle and DiVincenzo, I guess anything is possible. ;)

At least the Wolves were over a barel with the 2nd apron but yeah.

If Randle is traded by draft night, I will be relatively happy.

Not sure what you can get back for him though, maybe a 2nd round pick. He's got a $30m player option in the Summer.

So, more reports coming out from Dallas that they were frustrated for a long time with Luka behavior off the court. Sure as feck doesn't explain why they didn't ask for more in a trade but this clip where Dallas vice president takes the beer out of his hand like he's 15 once they got in the finals last season is funny.

They can make every excuse under the Sun for wanting to trade Luka. But even if they find a legit explanation that makes sense to do it, it would NEVER make sense to trade him for so little and not explore the market better.

He was actually thankful that Pelinka did not leak it.

Not only that. They added an extra layer of motivation on a player who absolutely thrives on the court when he is extra motivated and needs something to prove. Ironically, they likely just put another gear into him.

Kirk Goldsberry is saying, from his sources at the Lakers, that at first more players and picks were on the table, like Kneckt, but Pelinka convinced Harris that he was right to doubt Luka's fitness and attitude son he reduced it to just Max Christi and one first.

Not gonna lie, this sounds like Lakers propaganda and the source is probably Pelinka himself

But now they’re on the hook for LaVine’s contract for an extra year than what Fox had left and for like 10m more per year. I don’t think they intend go go into a rebuild at all. I don’t know. They’re in a weird place now. Not good enough to win a title and too good to draft high end lottery picks. Sabonis might ask out if/when he sees this is headed nowhere.

It doesn't matter, it's the contract that the Wolves need to get rid of. They could be the ones sending a second round pick. The point would be to extend Reid AND NAW or in a position to offer the full MLE to someone that fits better in the rotation.

Yeah, mind boggling stuff that  It actually surprises me that it apparently took us 48 hours to agree, unless there were some details about the trade that needed to get worked out first.

It's like having the winning lottery ticket after the draw on Friday but you can only go cash it in on Monday, you don't sleep unless you've got that money in your pocket.

Honestly it's the worst trade/transaction I've ever seen in any sport. I can't even think of something worse.

I've been following the NBA for 25 years and I can't recall anything even close to this in terms of stupidity.

The amount of hit pieces in the media towards Luka as well is insane to me. He's got to be frigging livid. They did him dirty. They didn't even meet with him to tell him he might be getting traded. Nico just sent him a text and then a phone call later which went unanswered obviously.

That first Lakers/Mavs game and subsequent meetings going forward will be absolute cinema.

If I'm the Lakers, I think I'd explore trading Reaves. He's become a bit redundant with Luka now and his contract has amazing value.

This trade looks so dumb from the outside that you have to start asking what is going on with Luka to make this happen. We know his conditioning is shit, but what else, drink, drugs, body already breaking down?

The better explanation is that Nico Harrison is an idiot. He botched the Nike presentation for Curry.

And every word coming out of his mouth justifying the Luka trade is garbage.
