Houston finna be a problem! Giving me the Russ and KD OKC vibes.
People tend to overreact every year on draft picks. Houston are miles away from being a problem to anyone
Yeah, Smith and Green are nowhere near the talents that KD was.
Don't know much about him except what I've read.
At one point he was the top high school recruit in the country for 2020 as far as ESPN was concerned but eventually ended up 5th (Kuminga was 4th).
He originally committed to Duke but changed his mind and went to play for his dad. Unfortunately, he then had what was supposed to be a season ending injury in the 2nd game of the season, but because his dad's job was under pressure he tried to come back from it. His freshman season ended up being a bit of a disaster. He still only played 11 games and in addition his shooting went to hell. It was all for naught as well since his dad was eventually fired anyway.
Seems to be another one of those high risk, high reward types of player.

Will they? I've read reports that Sarver doesn't want to pay up to keep him in Phoenix.
It's how the salary cap works. If we don't match, he's going to walk on a free and we're still capped out and we can't get a free agent in to replace him. Match him and we can try to get a trade next year onwards.
I thought Suns were going to match anyway but with how broken that relationship seems to be I’m not so sure of that anymore. I do expect that (the matching) to happen but I won’t be shocked if they just let him walk. It’s definitely pointless to do that as then you have basically lost a significant asset for nothing but Sarver is cheap.
The only thing certain after the draft is Ivey is going to be an absolute superstar and Kings will be mocked for not taking him.
Yup, that's the sensible approach. But Sarver is stingy, so you never know.
Exactly this - imo it's a no brainer to pay Ayton but wouldn't be surprised if they don't either.
Would picks plus Capela interest the Suns? I assume that the Hawks would welcome Ayton even with the prospect of giving him a max contract.
I think James Jones is the one that wants the flexibility. If Sarver has his way, we'll trade CP3 to keep Ayton on a max.
Yes. Because James Jones basically wants Ayton to just do what Capela does on that kind of deal, while ignoring the fact that Ayton has given up his own stats for the sake of the team.

We've played the rebuild process pretty perfectly so far since Harden bounced and next year we'll be free of that bottleneck John Wall contract. We'll probably still be bad next season, but the season after that we should be aiming to be a playoff team.
And if the Nets implode, we own their first round picks for the next 57 years.
I'm intrigued by the Wovles picks, on paper they look like perfect fits.
Tim Connelly pulled last night one of his classic moves, that mf seems have ears on every road for some reason. Not to mention he probably had a good guess if not even knowing who Denver gonna take.
Didnt even know that, guess if you coming from footballing side, same/similar logic cant be applied in NBA.
To be fair Gupta has been excellent in the past three years and the Wolves have drafted very well. Edwards, McDaniels, Bolmaro, Nowell or Reid(undrafted). Culver is the one big mistake.
I read somewhere online, perhaps a rumor or someone's wish, that Dallas would pursue Ayton. Would he fit their system? How would he impact them?

I don’t think that where we were in the draft we were likely to find someone who would improve us now? (I’m guessing). And we have a lot of talented young players as is. So I’m fine with them going for a project I guess.
He would fit on any team and would be great with Luka but the only way they can sign him is if they murder enough of their players to clear up all the cap space. Their bill will be like $170m without him and they would be hard capped by going for S&T so would need to get it down by $30m anyway. And that’s if Suns were even interested in doing S&T with them which they will not be.
Dallas just traded for Christian Wood. Would they really push the boat out for Ayton too?
Green showed at the end of the season he will be a star and that its easy for him to score at this level. KPJ was going off too and hes only 22. Now you signed a 6"10 2-way 3 player or 3 & D. You probably only need some athletic wings and you got that young Turkish fella. Exciting times to have such a young team. Actually you signed that Spanish dude who was voted best young player in the Euro League and he is an athletic wing. Could be building something here.

The only way Dallas can afford Ayton is if they include Luka in the trade. There's no way Dallas can afford give Ayton the 4 year max deal because they'll be capped out and James Jones will definitely match the 4 year max because that's what they wanted to offer Ayton in the first place.
And Suns aren't going to sign and trade to another team in the West as that will only make their season harder.
Dallas have $157m in salary even without resigning Brunson which will cost at minimum $20m a year.
Salary cap for next year will be at about $122m with luxury tax threshold at $147m and tax apron at like $160m maybe. You get hard capped if you acquire a player via sign-and-trade so Mavs would need to not only send back $30m or so in salaries but cut further $20m or so to get under tax apron. That is not happening under any circumstances.
Bottom line is even if Suns were mad and though taking on Hardaway and and Powell was a good idea, Mavs still can’t do that deal.
Of all the KD rumours, the Suns one makes the most sense.

I think Banchero would’ve been a much better fit due to his playmaking next to Green but it was out of your hands and you guys still ended up with a cracking prospect. Smith looks like at the worst he will be at least an elite 3 and D guy, and at the best he could be a Tatum level of player.
Really hope my Suns go after him if he is available.
Ayton, Johnson and 3 first round picks would be the best we can do without totally obliterating our future.

....and here's me thinking KD wanted to build something from the ground up rather than join another 60 win team.
It's his hardest road. All the defending of his own legacy on social media, that's the thing he meant. The offense would be disgusting with him, Booker and CP3 though.
Your option would be to either leave one of Booker or KD with just a single guy on them and CP3 will either find the other guy or hit his mid range jumper.

The difference is that the Suns have never won a title and so from a KD perspective, he could go down as a player who pushed a franchise finally over the top. For what it's worth I thought he should have just stayed in the Bay Area and ignored the critics, would have meant many more titles for KD.
On another note, it turns out that if Kyrie stays in BKN (which means KD would stay) then LeBron would then become interested in going to PHX as LA would become somewhat of a dead end for pursuing another chance at a title. So for the Suns they will either keep things as is, resign Ayton on a 4 year max and run it back or trade Ayton to Detroit in a 3 team deal that can send expiring contracts (Suns have two attractive ones in Crowder and Saric), picks and a player like Jayden Ivey or another young player not named Cade Cunningham to either BKN or LAL in return for KD or LeBron to PHX.

@elmo also forgot that the lineup would likely include Bridges and Cam Johnson too, who both have shot near or past 40% from 3 in the past couple of seasons. So CP3 would just have to direct the show and then find some vet PG to take minutes off him so he rests more. Thr 4th quarter scoring would fall on KD and Booker primarily but I reckon Bridges will take the next step and be a consistent 3 level scorer too.
