NBA 2020-2021

What a turnaround from the Jazz. Also having fans back is great - the atmosphere when the momentum shifts is incredible

So the Clippers made a big deal about them getting two elite two way wings but seemingly cant stop a single dominant offensive perimeter player.

Mitchell was untouchable the 2nd half and he's played like an elite superstar this year. Once he made the right reads, Utah made enough shots to keep Clippers at length.

George and Morris didn't make nearly enough shots. Utah did a good job on KL in the 2nd half.

Clippers also tired at the end. Two days after a game 7 and at elevation is tough. Great game and should be a good series.

What's the point of Ben Simmons? Is he injured or something? I mean he is not shooting or handling the ball. Genuine question
He is trash... I mean a max player that is such an unreliable scorer. That's got to hurt the team.

Joker is a one-of-kind player. His basketball IQ is off the charts.

Jokic fully deserved this. Steph went nuclear only in the second half of the season, and hard to justify someone who doesn’t make playoffs to get the MVP award. Jokic on the other hand was awesome for the entire season and comfortably made the playoffs.

Jokic only the third European player (after Nowitzki and Giannis) to get it?

Wow, the voting wasn't even anywhere near close despite all the media talking about Curry and Embiid's chances

Well there's a reason why most of the people on TV don't get a vote on these matters.

Yep. Interestingly, once a non-USA player wins it, it's taken (at least) 3 seasons both times before one wins it again (2005-07 with Nash 2x and Nowitzki, and now Giannis 2x and Jokic).

Olajuwon and Duncan (lol) sabotage this statistic.

Well since what January, i followed a bit whole media thing around MVP and every day/week they pinned someone different vs Jokic as who is more deserving than him. I understand pushing agenda vs someone who was constant in MVP discussion for clicks/views but it was so weird in some parts. Then you have people like that Nick guy, claiming that Jokic who is 26 and not retired yet, would be worst MVP in last 30-40 years or so.

Might be biased but think he well deserved it, stats, for what he does for his team etc. , sadly there will be people like Kenny who will push narrative that he only won MVP due playing every single game.

Well, consistency is key when assessing season-long awards to be honest. You could endlessly debate whether he's even a top 5 player in the league but you can only be valuable to your team if you're actually available and he was - and won them games whilst playing brillaintly too, so it's deserving imo. I think it would've/could've been a lot closer if Embiid had stayed fit but he didn't so pointless discussion again.

Well actually most of the people who have a vote in the media said that they will vote for Jokic. I didn't think that it would be close at all. The people who don't have a vote like ex players are the ones who talk about others.

Yeah, it's weird. I think Lue took too long to make rotation adjustments against the mavs and in this game his rotation was weird too. I mean i get Gobert is a different monster compared to Boban or 5'27 but if i'm the clippers i'd be more comfortable letting Gobert get his on the glass than letting Donovan walk into 45...especially because unlike Doncic, Mitchell doesn't have to go full throttle the whole game just to keep them in the game, the jazz have enough offensive weapons for him to pick his spots
Playoff Pi hasn't been elite for eons
I dunno, he was pretty elite against dallas
He is trash... I mean a max player that is such an unreliable scorer. That's got to hurt the team.
He's the best defensive player in the league...

Except they do? It's literally a media voted award and most of the major journalists/talking heads get to vote.

A lot of the people in the media, guys who usually spout nonsense for views (Nick Wright, Skip Bayless etc), don't have a vote as far as I know. Those who do have a vote are usually the sane ones (Boussard, Rose, Rachel, Windhorst etc) and I don't like I read a lot of hype around anyone other than Jokic from them.

How would you prevent Mitchell from doing that? Gobert wouldn't be the beneficiary of focusing on Mitchell, it would be Ingles, Clarkson, O'Neale and Bogdanovic moving the ball around and air striking you while Gobert is in 1v1 and rebounding for fun. The Jazz are a bit like the Nets offensively, there is no strategy that will stop them outside of basketball gods making them miss shots that they normally make at a high rate.

I don't disagree, the jazz offence is nigh unstoppable, but anything is better than letting Mitchell force a switch and iso against luke kennard, with no rim protector on the Clippers

@giorno then what would you call Kawhi's performance?
In game 1? Bad
He’s not even close to that.
He's the best on ball defender in the league by a lot

Perkins is such an annoying personality on ESPN. Not sure he if commentates on live games or in studio during, but his delivery on the talk shows is fecking annoying. Seems like that type that one can not win an argument against. His opinion is always right.

Is there a reason he is not guarding Trey then?

I haven't seen much basketball till the playoffs and first time catching sixers yesterday. Wasn't sure why Simmons was on the floor. He wasn't handling the ball much I thought, he doesnt shoot obviously, wasn't guarding Trey I thought.

Doesn't make any sense to me.

Reading some articles it appears there is lot of concern about Simmons and his offense. I guess he defended Trey well enough. Looks like I just caught a particularly bad game from him on offense.

Ask Doc

Probably it's because Trae would just call for a screen to shed him or force a switch, but Ben is one of the best at fighting over screens too, so...

In general, Simmons is an elite defender, good facilitator and rebounder. On offense he is good outside of shooting which is obviously a big issue but shouldn't lead you to underrate the rest of his game.

Doncic is going to be a huge huge superstar in the nba if he isn’t going one already. What a baller. It’s a pity we don’t get to see him anymore in the playoffs

Doncic, Trae, Mitchell, Tatum, Morant, Booker. So many young stars in these playoffs that we hopefully see for years to come.

Is he a max contract player in your view?

Based on current max players, I would say that he is because there is no way that a good team doesn't give him one. Ideally only elite two way players and offensive juggernauts should have max contracts but that's not how things are.

The playoffs have been disappointing no?

What's your take? Feel like it has been very competitive and fun to watch. Injuries have made teams less than optimal, moreso for Nuggets, Celtics, Lakers, Hawks, Nets and at times Suns and Sixers.

But of the teams still remaining, they deserve to be there...maybe outside of the Hawks, but the East 1-3 are the best teams from the regular season.

Top teams from the West throughout the season, Jazz, Nuggets, Suns, Clippers still alive.

Nuggets other than Jokic have been 17/56, that's just ridiculously pathetic.

For the most part of the game, he's made more or equal field goals/baskets than the other starting four Nuggets players....combined (9). Truly pathetic as you mentioned!

Obviously missing Murray in this matchup and Barton has just comeback from injury and is probably on a minutes restriction.

I'll start with disclaimer. Haven't watched all games.

Lack of competitive series and games. Only real competitive series was Mavs against clippers. In the 2nd round so far just the jazz game was good no?

Going forwards Utah vs clippers should be good. Maybe 76ers vs hawks.
