NBA 2019-2020

You guys should be paid to talk about sports because y'all are all better than sports analysts.

Jared Dudley is a better Bench option than Carmelo Anthony according to the Red Cafe NBA experts. Most seem to disagree but feck those guys I think you guys are for sure right.

Efficiency.
A player needing 15 attempts to score 10 points is way worse than one needing 5 attempts to score 5 points. Teams want the efficient players to make the attempts, and players that are able to be efficient at a high number of attempts are the best offensive players. If you are not an efficient player, at least one should be able to not be a liability in defence.

Coincidentally, what do you think about stats like expected goals etc used in football?

Melo's gonna get cut in a few weeks.

btw I hope you don't seriously believe NBA sports "analysts" you see on US TV are paid to analyze the game?

Exactly. Talking heads need things to talk about. They would try to sell a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar comeback as a great idea. "I cant believe no roster has a spot for Kareem! He is one of the Goats!"

The proper analysts working for the teams all came to the conclusion that they wouldn't touch Anthony with a 10 foot pole. I am still trying to figure out why Portland signed him. Maybe they want him as a cutable scapegoat. Just baffling.

There's a reason why they're on ESPN and not working for front offices. Their takes are meant to generate attention, not provide insightful analysis on a game.

They literally tried to create the storyline that MJ could make a comeback to the league during the buildup to his 50th birthday and still be useful for teams.

No he is better then Melo clearly on defense.

You said shooting 58% from the field but doing that while averaging 1 ppg is nothing to brag about and someone above said what's the point of someone scoring 30 points if they let 30 go in well if Dudely scores 1 point a game e most deff lets in double that so according to you guys he should be playing at a local High School.
I mean PJ Tucker is the arguably the most important player for the Rockets, a lot of nights he scores only 2 points yet his defensive contribution is invaluable, it's more about how you help your teams defense rather than how many points you give up.

And I have a feeling the Blazers will come back, they just have too many good players to have that record it's insane, I mean I can't even comprehend it tbh.

It’s still only 1 game in so we will see in the long run what happens with him this season. Obviously if it it’s a failure that’s it he is done and IF that happens then I will be the first to say I was wrong. Until then I stand by my point and think Melo will show that in the season.

Taking basis off of 1 game which was his first in a full year where he had not practiced with the team is foolish. In the Rockets he was only there for 10 games but in 4 he had a 15 point game and 3 20+ coming off the bench. As I said before I don’t think they signed him for his defense (clearly) I think he was signed to give them some extra point coming off the bench with 15 minute of general game time. The team as a whole is absolute dog shit at defending so then losing is not because of Melo.

Either way like I said time will tell and I have no problem admitting I was wrong if things pan out that way.

I don't know if I'm more confused about the over-the-top Melo love or the strange anti-Jarred Dudley vendetta.

How can you even play in nba if you dont play defence? Its ok if you putting star numbers on the other side but a rotation player that doesnt play defence? Pretty much making piece with the fact your team wont do anything of note.

Many players can come off the bench and score a certain number of points. What is important is the efficiency in scoring, decisions made and not being a major liability in defence.

Melo off the bench with 10+ points with average efficiency and not being the obvious weak point in defence would be a success IMO.

+/- in those 4 games you keep mentioning: -5, -17, +3, +7(funnily enough, this was his worst game of the 4 in terms of scoring efficiency)

By any advanced stat you want to look at he was one of their 5 worst players among those who logged at least 100 minutes. We are literally talking about a guy who should not be playing more than 10-15 minutes a game at best on most nights(non-garbage time)

So.
1) Does he see himself as that player?
2) Can the team cope with the hall-of-famer-turned-bottom-of-the-bench sub and all the attention he generates?
3) Does the club want to deal with the hassle?

Because in the end that's what it boils down to: if Jared Dudley plays two minutes, his team gets killed in those two minutes and he gets yanked and doesn't play anymore, nobody cares. If that happens to Melo?

See thats the thing I am not campaigning for Melo to play 25-30 min a night. I always said he could be a valuable option off the bench giving you 15 min a night IMO. Whether that will or wont happen I dont know and I done know hat him and the blazers agreed on.

I am a Melo fan what can I say though my favorite player is Derrick Rose.

What does it matter, he’s still scoring those points and getting to the line is ability as well. He’s been amazing for the last 7-8 games and was incredible almost all of last season.
To each his own, I'd take around 10-15 players in the league if I'm looking to build a team around someone with them leading it before even looking at Harden. A guy whose impact on the game depends on how hard the ref is looking and why he can't hack it in post-season where referees stop giving those fouls. Getting to the line by conning the refs is his USP.

I mean really, feck James Harden.

Brilliant by Doncic again. 35 point triple double with shooting 60% from the 3 pt line.

In 26 minutes...

He also had more points, rebounds and assists than the entire (!) Warriors team after the first quarter. Kid is a Monster.

he had 33/9/7 at half time. Warriors or not, that is an insane stat line.

the only silver lining in my team (Bulls) losing that coin toss with the Kings, was that I just know if the Bulls had of picked 2nd they'd have taken Bagley too, and i'd be even more depressed at seeing a generational talent like Doncic be so close yet so far.

The Warriors "San Francisco" jerseys are nice af IMO. Is that there "statement" jerseys this season or there main because they have been using it more then the regular white golden state one?

It's their classic jersey.

There are some dope jerseys this year in the classic line (Raptors one is incredible, both jersey and court) but most city edition jerseys are awful. Clippers one is great though.

--Doncic lit up the depleted Golden State Warriors for 35 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in the Mavericks' 142-94 win. Doncic exited the game for good with a few minutes left in the third quarter, playing only 25 minutes, 30 seconds, the least playing time in NBA history by a player to produce a 30-point triple-double, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.--
--According to Elias, Doncic became the first player to register more points, rebounds and assists than an opposing team in one quarter since the Philadelphia 76ers' Allen Iverson on Feb. 19, 2003,--

I agree the Raptors one will always be the best of the bunch but I really liked the "San Fransisco" one as well as I think the Knicks statement jersey is really nice but it is sold out:mad:

Just saw the Pistons "Motor City" jerseys and that shit looks horrible:wenger::lol:

The grizzlies are using there throwback threads the baby blue one which is also very nice.

Second year too...This kid is special. Has the potential to be the best euro player ever.

Dirk and Petro are my two favorite euro players but Doncic could surpass them one day.

Amen.

i don't like Harden but he's scoring almost 40 points on 60% TS. there's definitely not 10 or more players in the league that you would build around over that kind of offensive production.

The whole "he's bad in the playoffs" narrative isn't even true. He's just not otherwordly, but then again, here's a list of players who put up otherwordly playoff performances in recent seasons: LeBron James. Kevin Durant. Kawhi Leonard

He was great offensively in the playoffs last year. Not going to argue that, but his offensive output, excluding his partial dependency on lenient refereeing and free throws, has never been the issue. Regular season, he is easily top 10 players to have on your team. Playoffs included, not so much.

Which stars are better to have in the playoffs? Other than the 3 I mentioned, who's been better?

Who has been better or who would be better to have in the playoffs?

This depends how to quantify defensive contribution and how much of Hardens game is impacted by playing ISO. Are Harden numbers this good because the Rockets are built to make him play ISO or will he be able to put up similar numbers for a team not constructed for him to play ISO?

Will a team be better off having a player performing well in both ends or a player playing extremely well offensively or defensively?

In certain situations and against certain team having a player like Harden would be better than Lebron or Kawhi. Against others, the lack of defensive contribution might make him less useful than having players than PG13, Curry, Giannis etc. So it depends.

Curry isn’t really a better defender than Harden.
