Lebron James with another near triple double (21-11-9).. Obviously if he wanted a triple double he could have easily got that tenth assist in exchange for two of those 11 extra points.
wink

I hope so. I think Kobe will appreciate Phil even more now should he return and Howard should do very well in the triangle offense.

I can't see Phil returning. It was Kobe thinking he was smarter than Phil and overruling his play calling that brought about Phil leaving in the first place. I don't see any sign that Kobe will listen this time and be a team player.

NBA rings can be so persuasive though.

Apparently they've met and both sides are interested in getting a deal done. If he wants it then I think they'll announce it by Monday.

Isn't Phil dating/married to someone from the Buss family?

I read somewhere that D'Antoni will apparently bring in a defensive coach to work with him in his next job as he acknowledged his own defensive skills are not very good.

Whoever the new coach is they'll have to address some big problems. I think the offense will take care of itself eventually but D has to be better, there have to be fewer turnovers and the bench must contribute something meaningful.

Read my yahoo link at the top of this page - the defense is terrible so far and the offense is actually not that terrible, outside of turnovers and free throw shooting.

Your article confirmed what I mentioned previously, the lakers are crap defensively this season so far.

Lillard is 16th in the NBA is scoring with 18.8 a game, 3rd among PGs only behind Irving and Kemba Walker.

He's 13th among PGs in assists with 7.0 (the difference between 13th and 5th is 1 assists per game) and 10th in rebounding with 3.3.

I guess Phil's demands were too much to be met. Will be interesting to see how things go.

ESPN with an interesting article discussing how Howard may fit in with D'Antoni's system and whether they consulted him before hiring D'Antoni. If he doesn't like the system or if the Lakers suck this season, then Howard might just leave the team when he becomes a free-agent, in which case the team will be fecked for the long-term plans beyond Kobe.

I wonder if D'Antoni will get a defensive coach to help him as had been indicated. Perhaps a defensive 'expert' like Mike Brown may be available :p

D'Antoni needs to raid the Phoenix Suns of their medical team too, they're doing miracles down there keeping the old folks fit with their fast paced game.

I read that Buss Jr was more interested in getting one over on Phil by rejecting him than negotiating with him. Buss Jr seems to be a pretty terrible executive, I'm worried about the future of the team under his care.

Doesn't seem to be the case, here's Jackson's side of things

By Mike Bresnahan
November 12, 2012

Former Lakers Coach Phil Jackson was sleeping comfortably Saturday night when the phone rang. It was the Lakers. They delivered stunning news. Mike D'Antoni got the job, not him.

Jackson told his side of the story in a statement Monday.

“Saturday morning, [Lakers executive] Jim Buss called to ask if he could come and visit. I didn’t solicit or ask for the opportunity but I welcomed both him and [team executive] Mitch Kupchak into my home to discuss the possibility of my return to the Lakers as head coach," Jackson said.

“We talked for over an hour and a half. No contractual terms were discussed and we concluded with a handshake and an understanding that I would have until Monday [today] to come back to them with my decision. I did convey to them that I did have the confidence that I could do the job. I was awakened at midnight Sunday by a phone call from Mitch Kupchak. He told me that the Lakers had signed Mike D’Antoni to a three-year agreement and that they felt he was the best coach for the team. The decision is of course theirs to make. I am gratified by the groundswell of support from the Laker fans who encouraged my return and it is the principal reason why I considered the possibility."

D'Antoni signed a three-year, $12-million deal late Sunday night.

Jackson's agent, Todd Musburger, added that media coverage portraying Jackson as being full of demands was inaccurate.

Some Internet reports stated that Jackson wanted more front-office power and wanted to skip large swaths of road games this season.

"No discussion of those ideas being contractual terms or demands was ever made," Musburger said. "They had a full discussion of the club, the roster, the schedule, assistants, etc. But to allow someone either on their side or on D’Antoni’s side to make these allegations -- unsubstantiated and incorrect -- and incorrectly maligning Phil is so objectionable to us that the process would have concluded this way."

You would think that the Lakers have the most ill-suited parts for a D'Antoni system, with him needing fast runners and loads of players who can shoot the 3s to help spread the floor for Howard to take advantage.

That's very poor from the Lakers. Jim Buss is a bit of a dick and it will be on him if D'Antoni fails and/or Howard doesn't sign the extension everyone expects him to.

One of the ESPN NBA analysts claimed that for D'Antoni's system to truly work in LA they will have to trade Gasol for another shooter. Citing that he's never had two big men that prefer working down low and that his system is not designed for that. What forward is out there that could fit into that shooting role? I know Dirk could but that deal ain't happening.

Interesting potential trade article but dated mid-October. #8 looks very intriguing assuming the Lakers can't extend Howard and want to go younger and add more depth plus future draft picks. Jennings to the Knicks looks tasty. But #3 and #5 can't happen now that Martin and Lamb were traded to OKC for Harden.

Bleacher Report...I'd rather read Rush Limbaugh's newsletter.

Will be hard to find anyone who wants Gasol and would offer fair value, I'd think only a team ready to win the title this year would want an aging veteran.

FAO TB/Any other indian.

On which channel are the games telecasted? I read it's on SonySix, and TenSports. But i check the schedule on the channels, and it doesn't show it there. So have you seen any games on any channels? Btw, i have dishTV

On a basketball related note ESPN kicked off the college basketball season with 24 hrs straight of live college basketball games. They get some of these colleges to play games at weird times to make it happen Rider vs. Stoney Brook started at 6 AM.

Last year it was on TenSports and SIX with both showing 3 to 4 games per week. This year its only on six and nba.com/india.
SIX shows 3 games per week(usually monday, friday and saturday) while one match is broadcasted on nba.com/india(free).
So yeah basically nba telecast sucks here :( .

Here is the total schedule

WTF is wrong with Miami's defense this year?? 6th game (out of 9!) they allow their opponent to score more than 100 points!

Come on Heat! Defense! Defense!

Clippers have quietly got themselves to a 6-2 record. Bastards.

Anyone see Magic's tweet yesterday: "The reason I haven't tweeted in 2 days is because I've been mourning Phil Jackson not being hired as the Lakers head coach."

Still no TV deal for UK viewers. I hope Sky can get a deal done but there doesn't seem to be any rush to make a deal happen.
