YESSSSS KOBE MUTHAfeckIN' BRYANT.

I need somebody in here. 10.6 remain, 2 points lakers lead. If only Lakers play the whole game how they do in the last quarter

Just 1/2 game behind the cnuts.

Getting shellacked by the number 1 seed in the first round of the play offs is still better than not making it.

If anyone has had a mare, it is you two who seem to think that offensive contributions are relevant to who was the better defensive player.

 Mare

I thought you were going to tell me how "Bibby's" Kings should have won a "few" titles next but I see that you are still struck on this. sigh..

The greatest players are not called the greatest because they perfect one aspect of the game. There is a reason why Franz Beckenbauer is considered the greatest football defender of all time. With his defensive nous, he also brought along leadership and offensive quality to the play. Wallace was stale in other departments and a top 10 defender on personal choice. There is nothing else to discuss here.

Huge win for the Lakers.

Bryant has been incredible this season. Despite all the issues with this team, he's been the only one who has given 100% every game and he's dragging this side into the playoffs pretty much by himself.

We're not talking about Wallace as one of the greatest players of all time, just one of the greatest defenders. If we're talking greatest shotblockers, Mark Eaton is in the discussion regardless of his other limitations. If we are talking greatest three point shooters, Steve Kerr is in the discussion regardless of his other limitations. If we are talking greatest crossovers, Tim Hardaway is in the discussion regardless of his other limitations. If we are talking greatest defenders, Ben Wallace is in the discussion regardless of his other limitations. How is this so hard to understand? Why do you keep bringing up the fact that Ben Wallace was bad offensively like it is something anyone is even debating?

I haven't repeatedly brought it up.. Mentioned it only in my last post. Why is it so hard for you to read?

Did I say that Beckenbauer is the greatest player of all time? Or did I ever say that Wallace shouldn't be in the discussion? I mentioned that he is no way in the top 3 of all time.

Wallace was an excellent shot blocker and rebounder. Very hard working player and I can see why people like him as a defender. Though he wasn't a very good one on one defender. Shaq creened him in the finals against the Pistons. He wasn't a very good lock down defender either. He was excellent with certain aspects but also lacking in others. Wallace gets overrated because he played in a team committed on defense. No one played defense like them Pistons. Taysun, 'Sheed and the others did more than their part in defense. Was Wallace as good after he left them?

Greatest shotblockers, three point shooters etc??? - those are individual elements of the game. Where as the term "defense" contains sum of multiple elements. Sorry, but those were nonsense analogies.

In any best defender arguments, of course defense is paramount, no one is saying that Wallace shouldn't be considered as he wasn't a Jordan on offense. Though having some offensive traits is only a positive. It adds to your resume. No one helps defense like offense. Much easier to stand and defend when you contribute very little on offense.

Thank you, that is a good post.

I will disagree that no one played defense like those Pistons. The Pacers and Spurs in that era were just as good. I'd have to rewatch the finals to remember that series exactly, but Ben Wallace often guarded the power forward on defense. Rasheed was taller and would often guard the center.

Wallace was a very good one on one defender. He wasn't going to shut anyone down like someone Mutombo's size but he consistently held his own against the best big men in the league. Another thing he excelled at was athleticism. Pistons fans are the only ones who can truly appreciate how athletic he was because you had to watch him every game. Several times every game he would switch out and be guarding McGrady or Bryant on the three point line and he would be able to handle them while still getting back and grabbing the rebound. IMO, the best help defender of all time.

Was he as good once he left the Pistons? No, of course not. But he was a very undersized 32 year old guarding the biggest and best players in the league.

How many big players were there in the league, Eboue? The era of truly big men was long over. Shaq, KG, Duncan, who else? Please don't mention Yao.

Pacers and Spurs were good but not scary good as the Pistons. Spurs like to defend but also complement it with good offense. That Piston team could defend for it's life. It's no wonder that spell with the Pistons was his best. I am sure the number say no different.

Yao
Jermaine O'Neal
KG
Dirk
Duncan
Shaq
Malone
Ilgauskas
Kenyon Martin
Odom
Elton Brand
Brad Miller
Bosh
Magloire
Abdur-Rahim
Gasol
Webber
Amare
Divac
Ratliff
Kirilenko
Camby
Howard
Jefferson

Every single one of those guys is taller than Ben Wallace.

Lakers' 3pt shooting is abysmal. Still, a decent 1st half and some good D. Really need to win this game.

Excellent win by the Lakers.

The D played with intensity today and we made some good adjustments offensively, especially in the second half. Howard and Kobe look much happier together and seem to have a better understanding of their roles in the side. Howard in particular looks a lot better now than pre-All Star game.

The win means we're now the number 8 seed. First time this season we're 2 games over 0.500.

Good win for San Antonio over OKC.

Westbrook is a really good player on his day, but my word, he is one greedy fecker. He decided to attempt a half court shot in the 3rd quarter when there were still 18 seconds left on the shot clock. Idiot.

OKC should've kept Harden and traded Westbrook instead, he'd fit better with Durant.

Howard had 39 free throws attempts tonight. Tied the NBA record, which was held by unsurprisingly him. Ridiculous.

Lakers get another win, Dwight played very well. Orlando took the Hack-a-Dwight tactic to new levels today, but it failed as D12 finished with 25/39 which is good by his standards this season.

Blake's return has been understated, he's made a big difference to the rotation.

We seem to be getting hot at the right time but I'm still expecting a one and done playoff run, if we make it in.

Yeah, they should make the playoffs now but it's hard seeing them making an impact tbh. Just haven't shown enough against the other upper playoff teams.

Lakers lost. After Koby scored an impossible three point, he couldn't score on the next action and injured himself in the process. Miami too had a game with a great finish.

Kobe is having X-rays on his ankle. Hopefully he's ok.

At least the Jazz will lose. They had amassed a mighty 28 points at halftime

Lakers saying Kobe is out 'indefinitely'. We're fecked :(

Lakers really have had little luck with injuries this season.

Reckon he'll be suiting up for the next game and still be our best player even with a busted ankle.

He does start. A bit of a risk in my opinion, hopefully he doesn't aggravate it and we get the win.

This is the most ridiculous conclusion to a half I've ever seen. These referees have no clue what to do.
