Nathan Collins

People don't understand Ole is building for the future.

The future when we get relegated and will need these championship players to pull us back! heh

Be a nice signing getting the biggest talent from Stoke and pissing off their fans into the deal. I’m hoping Fletchers scouting skills are on the money, but he should have great insight about the lad. Another one for the future.

Are ex united players now being relied on as championship talent scouts?

We certainly can't rely on our current scouts who missed out on signing Alli, De Jong and De Ligt. Signed Memphis over Mane and Sanchez over Bernardo Silva. They're fecking useless.

Ex players probably are more clued up than them.

These players we're being linked with look underwhelming. I'll be surprised if even one of them has a decent career in the PL at a midtable club.

Scouts don't sign players so no, they didn't miss out on any of those and nor did they sign Memphis.

I can understand why you think they sound underwhelming. But our current transfer strategy is clearly not working. Who was our last successful signing?

I'd much rather go for the low risk, high reward approach. Look at Dele Alli signed from MK Dons for £5 million, or Andy Robertson from Hull for £8 million. You could've easily made the same remark about them. We need to give them a chance.

I think players generally have a good idea of what makes an exciting talent. I remember when we signed Ronaldo it wasn't through any particular excellence of the scouts, but from when he tore us a new arsehole in a friendly that pushed us to make haste in signing him.

Well their recommendations so far have been utter shit. Wasn't it in the papers the other day that our scouts thought De Ligt was too fat? I can't think of one signing in the past five years that I can hand on heart say has been an overwhelming success. And that's down to our poor management structure and awful scouting.

Makes a lot of sense. The reserves got relegated and completely failed to get back up. Their defense is terrible in particular. And if he is eventually good enough for the 1st then squad, then great.

Pogba and Ibrahimovich helped United win a European trophy. Dele Alli made his debut at 16 and scored 22 senior goals by age 17. He was an exceptional talent at MK Dons and his varied array of skills have always been evident if you talk to MK Dons fans. The guys we're being linked with look so one dimensional and are not in the same bracket talent wise.
Robertson also had two good premier league seasons with Hull. We had players of similar and even more quality (in my opinion) in our own ranks who got fans excited at one point or another like Chris Eagles, Lee Martin, Ben Pearson, Ezekiel Fryers, Ritchie De Laet, Paddy McNair, Blackett, Janko, Joe Riley, Borthwick-Jackson, Paul McShane, Tom Lawrence the new Giggs (a player who looked more talented than Daniel James), just to name a few. We wouldn't even look at those players, know or notice them if they never played for United but some have managed decent careers at lowly clubs. I think the players we're being linked with fall in the same bracket

Wouldn’t mind him if price was right - after Tuanzebe (and assuming O’Connor plays more at RB/LB than CB), I get the impression that we could do with someone else coming through at centre half - unless anyone else knows current U16/U17 a bit closer?
Teden Mengi broke through this season. He looks really bright in my opinion.

Like Scott McTominay? Our scouts have not been properly judging the mentality and character of some of the players we have been signing. Fletcher most probably knows more about the lad than a scout does.

This isn't the first time former players have recommended players to sign for United you know. None of them have ever unearthed a success story. Keane was huge on Liam Miller, and the class of 92 had nothing but praise for Sadiq El Fitouri just a few seasons ago. Epic fails

Scouts also get it wrong. What's you point? It's a young player who will play in the u23 side. Beyond that we need to look closely at the players character because the recruitment has been garbage since SAF left.

My point is our ex players are not exactly great at identifying talent good enough for this club either, they have a record of failure in this respect

How do you know our scouts are not already aware of the player and Fletcher has just given his recommendation based on training with him and seeing what he is like as a person?

This entire forum was shitting on Scott for ages and they were dead wrong. McTominay has an impeccable attitude and we need more players who match that attitude. Whether or not this player from Stoke has enough quality, we don't know yet. When we dont sign these young talents people complain, and when we do they also complain.

These young talents look nothing special, that's my argument and these reports of their 'great attitudes' don't do anything for me, we need quality as well. The jury is still out on McTominay, he's expected to play a bigger role now that Herrera is gone and his mettle is going to be tested more than it ever has in this upcoming season. You wouldn't look twice at McTominay if he played for Stoke city.

These talents are not exceptional and its no wonder they're only linked with other clubs in their league or midtable PL clubs, some are not. I bet most of them won't make it at any top 6 clubs, some won't cut it in the PL period. That's my opinion and we shall revisit this as time reveals what they're made of

fecking hell, people arguing with no clue what's the role of scouts or judging players based on watching feck all games.

If we can't form opinions on players there's no point in this thread, none of us from what I know are professional scouts

I am not claiming they are exceptional talents. I am not claiming they will even be first eleven players either. Scott is a good player, he's not flashy so doesn't get the credit he actually deserves. Perhaps he is getting more credit now. Regardless, I don't really care if fans think a player is special (or good enough) or not, fans are mostly wrong. Scott is a big example of that and he came straight from our academy.

You have never even seen this kid play.

What exactly are you basing your arguments on? Did you watch enough of Nathan Collins or Daniel James?

You are basing your argument on your 'feeling', nothing more.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer first of his name, king of fitness and the preseason, breaker of the wheel.

Yes, and most posters on forums do the same. Do you watch both players week in week out? Even if you do, others who do as well will still have different opinions.

Neither have you im assuming but you're pretty much endorsing them as 'good signings' because reports say they have 'good attitudes'

I don't, that's why I'm not saying anything on the transfer except lets wait and see, if we sign what they bring to the team. How can anyone form opinions on the player whom they never watched?

At least if we are talking about PL or any other top leagues, then they would have watched few times or at least performance videos (which covers all the touches against teams). But this guy has barely played for Stoke, so how can we make any meaningful posts on the player without knowing anything?

Mountain u17 Irish captain, rated and Fletcher has presumably got a good understanding of what he is like because he was also at Stoke. I am not complaining about us signing a young player like this, no.

If he turns out shit then he turns out shit. On paper we are working with a good base.

Im actually fine with Collins as in most likelihood he's rea, maybe Im being too harsh to lump him in with the rest like James, Longstaff and Godfrey who i've seen clips of and see nothing special

Clips? I'm sorry but it's difficult to take your opinion seriously if you are claiming they are not good enough based on clips.

Yes clips and opinions of fans who watch them on a regular basis. Ive copied and pasted posts from Swansea fans for instance in the Daniel James thread, and their opinions pretty much confirm what I thought when I watched the clips. You can view them in his transfer thread.

The players also urged Ferguson to instantly Ronaldo after the Sporting friendly. Epic fails again.

That really doesn't mean anything to me. There's posters on here I disagree with when it comes to some of our players as well.

The club already had tabs on him, and them urging him to sign him because he made them look stupid on the pitch is not the same as them unearthing some hidden gem in the lower leagues is it?

There's nothing wrong with that, part and parcel of a forum, we are not going to agree on everything.

So do you believe the scouts haven't kept tabs on Collins and James and we are just signing(or apparently)them due to ex players opinion? Christ

I have no idea if they have, but this argument stemmed from @haram stating that our scouts have done a terrible job and maybe we should listen to our ex players instead when they recommend players
