Nathan Ake (Close to signing for Man City, £40m fee)

Ake would walk into our starting 11 and offer more than Lindelof, so yes I’d absolutely have him at £35 million. Chelsea and city are better run from a transfer market standpoint and execute their plan with more authority in the market than we do. Chelsea have not clinched a champions league spot and can still blow it entirely by losing to both to the dippers and Wolves yet they’re on pace to get 3 class targets. What was it that Ed’s mouthpieces in the media had us believe again earlier this season when we were on pace for our worse season ever in the prem? Even if we missed out on champions league, the board would back Ole, there was a plan, list of targets etc. So if we have this long term plan, you’d assume there would be a few achievable targets. This summer is more than just about Sancho. On the evidence of last summer, Ed will drag it out again till the last few weeks while city and Chelsea will be well into integrating their new signings into their squads. We should expect more of our club in this rebuild.

Come on man. 2 of Chelseas 3 class targets would most probably not go to Chelsea if it werent for the strange combination of Covid and Chelsea's transfer ban.

They have had lots of money in the bank because of it, and suddenly almost noone (except for us but we're getting Sancho) else could afford Werner and Havertz.

But in a normal situation Werner would 100% go to Liverpool and Havertz would probably be Bayern or Madrid bound. They have just had som really lucky window.

And btw, Sancho will most probably arrive here early next month. He will have lots of time to integrate.

Very average and he's only 5'11". City can have him.
I would much much rather just bring Smalling back.

He's a pretty good back up to Laporte that's for sure. Don't think he's commanding enough to be a regular for them.

It’s was being reported that Werner was also concerned about playing time so it was not a lock that he would’ve went to the dippers. Chelsea the past 10 to 15 years always have an edge attracting players from Germany and elsewhere on the euro continent being a London club. This is not just a one year anomaly though it’s obviously played a role. Chelsea simply do their transfer business more efficiently and quickly in the market than we do. Think about our laboured and lengthy transfer windows of the past and compare it to how they’ve quickly wrapped things up in comparison the same year. This is a widely known problem at our club, we’re just slow with too many obstacles to pass to get deals done quickly.

Sancho done early next month?! You’re dreaming man. Any transfer for Sancho will drag on because of our negotiation style and all to save the odd £5 million. That’s just the way we operate. Think about how long it took for us to get Pogba and Maguire signed when it was clear to everyone we were first in line for each of those deals.

I don't understand why any club would buy him for that fee when you can get Salisu at a third of the price.

City can make as many of this type of signing as they want, if they do then they won’t be anywhere near as good in the coming years as they have already been.

The rumours suggest he’s definitely moving to Manchester. His wife, Teri, was seen looking for houses in Hale and I believe his brother, Purpul, was looking at gyms in the area.

Not sure if to United or City though.

Good old Purple Aki

I don't trust numbers when it comes to City.

I can actually see them paying £40 mill. just to get it done quickly.

Both because they can integrate him alot faster, but also to ensure there wont be any bid wars or contracted negotiations.

They wouldnt mind overpaying £10-15 mill. FFP my ass.

Well, City aren't messing around and it validates those who were touting him for us. Ake's gone from relegation to financial Valhalla. What a crazy world we live in.

Is Ake better than what they have? Honestly? Is he any better than Ottamendi, Stones etc?

Never been convinced by Ake- just doesn’t seem to have the correct build for a centre half (rather like when we played Blind) Will be interesting to see how he gets on. Am guessing he’ll be cover for Laport and they are still in the market for a starter

Good signing for them. Wonder if he's being signed as depth though, as both him and Laporte are left footed. Would've definitely taken him at United though.

Haven't they always done this though, no fuss just sign the players.

City hardly get drawn in bidding wars or drag out negotiations.
It’s slightly easier when you have a bottomless pit of cash with no consequence for poor spending.

Better cover at LB than CB in my opinion.

Mendy is so fragile defensively and physically

Good comparison but I don't think he even has Daley's passing ability

He helps, a lot, with the high line backing up the high press. He's going to be difficult to beat in isolation and buy team-mates more time than they afforded now to get back into position.

City are going to be even more forward-thinking with him in the team.

He will be an excellent signing for them I think. Possibly vulnerable in the air but he is very good 1 on 1 and an aggressive physical defender.

I get he adds pace, but I'm just not that convinced by him as a defender. That comes from me watching him for Bono and Holland
