Nani | Contract & Transfer talk

Still think he should have been given a chance like Fellaini and Young have been given.

Yeah, I sort of agree. Problem might be Nani himself in that regard, though. He did push for the loan move himself, apparently. Plus, I personally don't think he can fill a Young-ish or even Fellaini-ish role. He needs to start, and he needs to be a go-to player on the pitch in order to be at his best.

It's doubtful whether he would have flourished under LVG - or any manager, really, at United. He was on the verge of something for Fergie but it wasn't to be, perhaps he was unlucky with injuries at just the wrong time, perhaps he simply wasn't good enough to grab a main-man role for a club of our kind.

As for the fee, people seem to have a hard time grasping the basic fact that he's on huge wages. That's the main reason, surely. China? Yeah, sure. But who wants to play in China? He's still in his prime. If he's to land at at a European club with some ambition, but not a top tier one, the fee is exactly what you'd expect. The clubs that can afford his salary AND a transfer fee close to what people seem to think Nani's worth...are few indeed. And those clubs don't want to buy Nani.

I wish Nani the very best. There were times when he was infuriating but there were also moments when he was superb. In the calendar year 2010, from the end of 2009-10 through the start of 2010-11 he was one of the best players in England. He didn't do too badly at the start of 2011-12 either. That Chelsea game...

Good luck Nani.

Surely he could have done better than that, surprised a club like Inter, Spurs, Porto, etc weren't in for hm, or even Real Sociedad as Moyes clearly rated him so highly.

What a weird transfer. I am surprised better clubs were not in for him, I thought he had a good season with Sporting?

Anyway, best of luck, I always liked him, shame that if didn't work out.

I'll always like him for that pressure penalty in the CL final. Marvellous to watch at times and a shame it never properly worked out for him here. He had the potential to be top class.

Guess what? It really doesn't matter that much what the fee is does it? Not going to affect our transfer budget. Gets his wages of our books. No points or trophies are given for selling prices.

So (not that we can ever know these things for fact), but say our valuation of whoever your most wanted target this summer falls £5m short of his club's and we miss out. If you were running the club, would you not like to think you'd push for a half-decent price for Nani (eg £8.5m) and sign the target player?

Says a lot that even as much as he irritated me and ridiculous though his wages are, I'm still surprised he's not going to a much bigger club for a slightly bigger fee. Frustrating though he can be I'd still have thought some big European club would be happy to take a chance on his talent. He's definitely better than Fenerbache.

2010-2012 he was undoubtedly world class. Shame, he's clearly just not got the mentality fit to play for a top club.

Good. Was afraid he was going to end up at Benfica or Porto. Now stay plenty of years in Turkey.

Did you guys not want him? I thought he did well this year, or is it the wages that would be the issue?

He was excellent. We just can´t afford him. There were plenty of rumours Benfica wanted him as revenge for us getting their manager. Me and plenty of Sporting supporters friends of mine were concerned with him moving there. We were all rooting for Fener :D

Gutted it hasn't worked out for him the last few years. He undeniably had the ability to be a Manchester United player in a period where many others in the squad had that particular question mark above their head.

I'm disappointed he's gone without getting a chance. I think he should have been given pre-season to prove himself. Last pre-season was with the 3-5-2 which nullified many attacking players.

I feel we are wasting a player here. Never understood why Valencia was allowed 3 years of absolutelty dreadful stuff on the right and Nani hardly ever got 2 game in a row.

Lots of truth here.

He is the worst managed player I know. There is no way that they can afford his wages and a better club couldnt. His agent has to be the worst or simply not care about him. With the whole AC/Inter rebuild job, how did he not get himself involved with that.

And like someone above me said, we gave Valencia way too many chances. Nani should have been given more.

It's sad that he will mostly be remembered for that red card. He was a bloody brilliant player at times, but considering his bad form around the time that contract renewal was just bizarre. Still think (hope) he will kick on from here and end up at another big club in a year or two.

Is it official? Is my name now redundant? lol.

Sad to see him go, would have loved to have seen him given a chance in the 4-3-3 on the right hand side. Waste of talent. Hope he does well for the remaining years of his career even if it is at a lower level.

Not sure how I fel tbh, I had such high hopes for Nani and for 18-24months he proved why.

Wish him the best.

Lol, okay cheers.

I second this word for word, we have unfortunately both made username fails. It's annoying we look like selling him for such a small amount when he could be useful to the squad next season and the club doesn't even really need the money. He impressed when he was out on loan and looked good so it's a shame he doesn't appear to be getting a chance back here. Come on Ed, have a heart and keep Nani for another season at least!

Frustrating how worse players kept/keep getting chances and he didn't. Well at least he contributed to our big trophies. All the best to him!

He deserved another year. Really would like an explanation if it's his or the clubs choice, it'll be a shame to see him go.

Very limited chances for him here now, Depay, Di Maria, Young & Mata all ahead of him in the pecking order. Still to try figure game time for Januzaj too if he stays.

Maybe he wanted to go somewhere where he is the star and where he plays every game?

2010-2012 he was undoubtedly world class. Shame, he's clearly just not got the mentality fit to play for a top club.
Yeah, I sort of agree. All conjecture of course, but it seemed to me he had/has a rather fragile personality. It really could go a long way to explain why he was so inconsistent, even at the best of times for us.

we can play make believe what ifs or we can deal with the reality that financially we are in good shape and our transfer budget is not dependent on sales.

Yes I would push for more, but I would be faced with the realities of who I am selling and what a club is willing to pay.

Oddly last report I read said we were holding out for more. So what's the problem?

Never understand why people get so menstrual over Nani.

There was a time when he was undoubtedly brilliant...however it was so long ago he performed at that level in a top league, it's almost verging on meaningless.

I mean, when you send a player out on loan with all expenses paid, you're publicly declaring him as 100% unwanted. You can't expect to go get a premium rate for a player put into the shop window with a sale tag on his head.

I don't even like Young, but I'd rather have Young in 2015.

Valid points. Well known that he is not wanted here anymore. Wonder how many clubs actually inquired about him?

He signed a 5 year contract when Moyes came in right?

If this were Chelsea, a 29 year old former CL winner would probably go for at least 15m. How much are we going to get for him?

Anyway, im happy for what Nani did. That CL final penalty took some real bottle too. My fav moment for him, but my favourite game from him was seeing him live against Munich in the home leg we won 3-2. Even after the red card he looked so determined to help us get through.

Frustrating player but there was a period he had a goal or assist in every game he played. Shame he got injuries (and shame about that red card against Madrid)

On the back of last season's performances, Chelsea would've got at least £10-15 million for him.

We really are rubbish at selling players.
