Naby Keita

Why next summer? Liverpools choice of RBL?

Probably because RBL wouldn't make a deal otherwise. Next summer he had a buy out clause of 40m and would most likely move anyway. This way they secure him for this season but still get more than the buy out clause.

Very good signing, I'm just glad they have to wait a year for him to join up!

As someone who has seen ~20 games of him at Leipzig. He is going to be absolutely massive for Liverpool, he is the perfect CM for their style of play (and the PL in general).
Yep, I said it before but he is the best player they could possibly sign imo. Equivalent of us signing Pogba last year.

So, how does this work? Can either club back out of the deal under some circumstances? What if another club is willing to pay higher next season? Or what if Keita is injured or has an underwhelming season and Klopp decides he does not want him? Does it guarantee that Keita will be a Liverpool player next season? If not, what is the point of doing this now?

Anyone?

I'm sure Keita will want out as soon as someone tells him who Liverpool are.

Technically it's like Liverpool signing him and sending him on loan to RBL.

I presume Liverpool's lawyers have them sufficiently covered. Although if it's a purchase + loan deal then he's theirs no matter what.

A Mane signing. Soon Liverpool will ve cementing a place in the top places in the league and more potential top players will arrive. Excellent business the lst 2 years with Mane and Keita

And what defense ?

Thank you guys. Was kind of hoping it was not a sure thing as they have been chasing him for a long time and he would definitely improve their midfield.

Looks like he has no choice, next season at least.

If they sign Lemar, extend Can and keep Coutinho, this will suddenly turn into a great window for Liverpool, despite not addressing their weaknesses. They´ll probably sell Origi and Sakho.

Keita, Can, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino, Salah, Mane, Sturridge, Solanke, Lemar. Pretty ridiculous 12 players for six positions.

I think Coutinho and Can are gone regardless next summer, Can reportedly has an agreement with Juventus.

What happens if next year jsnt there year and they aren't in the champions league.. strange move by Naby, he could do much better.

Wonder if this is a replacement for Can - isn't he having contract renewal issues?

Yep - we need to throw some money at him. Him renewing soon would be a great boost. He's going to be some player - I'd hate for him to be that on someone else's watch after we had to go through all the growing pains with him.

Not so fast. As they upgrade, so will ourselves, City and Chelsea.

Good piece of business by them. I'm disappointed

Indeed. New signings are only going to move them forward once they start managing to hold onto their big players. Otherwise they'll just keep treading water for another few years.

Brilliant business- liverpool has really learnt from their past mistakes and building for future. They will soon cement a top 4 place at Arsenal's expense.

This deal is very weird though
1. What if breaks his leg and injure himself?
2. Why is RBL not extending his contract with a higher release clause?
3. Why did RBL not accept higher amount this year then ? I understand they get one more year but what motivation does a player has if he knows he is leaving next year?

I'm sure it's not the first deal of its kind, we did buy Origi in a similar manner. As in, we bought him, got him through medical and photographs, then loaned him back to Lille for another season. Difference here being of course that Keita is still a Leipzig player.

He is a beast of a player. Would definitely be a loss - maybe Bayern have eyes on him

Just wonder if this signing suggests that Liverpool are slightly nervous about losing him.
Otherwise it will be interesting to see how your midfield will line up like with all your midfielders fit-Wjinaldum to miss out?

That's a pity, he's a top quality player. Might lend some credence to the rumours that Can is leaving for Juventus next summer. Even so, Keita is an upgrade if you ask me and the sort of signing who can take them to the next level.

Real lack of ambition from Keita here. Trying to secure his move now whilst his stock is somewhat high. He obviously doesn't fancy progressing even further with Leipzig this season and attracting the attention of the top clubs next summer. I'd genuinely be worried with his mentality if I was a Liverpool fan. He knew Liverpool would be in for him again next season if he maintained his form, but he's taking the safe option now.

1. It will mend
2. Because he didn't want to
3. Because they want him for their UCL campaign. Although hopefully they go out early and let him join in January

If klopp would make up with Sakho they wouldn't have to splash out on cb too. He showed at palace he can be dominant

There is Nada safe about it. He just wants to play for Klopp and no one else.

Great signing for them tbf. Hope they don't get Lemar on top of that because they'd have a ridiculously good attack and probably the quickest team around next season if they do. Though until they fix their defence then they won't be serious contenders for the league IMO.

I think Wijnaldum is the first one out of the starting XI. Which would be tremendous for our squad depth. He is good enough to start.

You'd think there would be games enough for everyone though.
