Mystery Fog across parts of America

If there have been changes in fog frequency, rather than more public hysteria like the drone panic recently, then it wouldn't be surprising given weather is affected by global warming. The chemical smell is probably far from universal and possible explanations would be burnt ozone or pollution trapped underneath a temperature inversion or indeed fog caused by moisture being caught under a temperature inversion. Pollution or smoke (or just fog) could of course trigger allergies or similar things like asthma, and then people who get allergies in general could also be confusing correlation with causation. All whipped up into something it isn't by social and other media.

In Australia we quite often get smoke from bush fires or controlled burns getting trapped under temperature inversions, with the resultant garbage air quality until the inversion goes away.
Finally a serious reply. Yep all that makes sense Wibbs.

What some people are also asking about is the texture. It’s got a snow like texture but isn’t snow. That is why some paranoid people are talking about ‘smart dust’ being trialled or a chemical of some sort. People pointing to the fact that government have done this before in the US over 200 times in one case.

I think this is the first time we are all realising this was a serious thread? Although your second paragraph throws that into doubt

Why does it? Those are both in existence. Not beyond US government to be testing these things at some point. Hell with operation sea snake it already happened.

You just keep asking those questions mate

This document was on a NASA site a few years back. It’s a look by NASA brains as to how things were evolving especially with regards to warfare. Smart Dust is already on the agenda. The doc is an interesting read but if you want to see smart dust mentioned it’s around page 40 onward

And yes there is some whacky shit on there too in regards to robotics

I have no idea but ChatGPT suggested the following as potential causes.

1. Ice Fog or Rime Ice: In very cold conditions, fog droplets can freeze directly onto surfaces like trees, fences, or roads, forming what looks like snow but is actually frost or ice accumulation.

2. Industrial Pollution (Industrial Snow): Fog can interact with pollution from industrial sources, leading to the formation of particulates that resemble snow. This phenomenon has been observed near factories or power plants.

3. Chemical Residue: Occasionally, industrial or agricultural chemicals released into the atmosphere can mix with fog and precipitate as a residue, sometimes mistaken for snow.

4. Asbestos or Fiberglass Particulates: In rare cases, particulate fallout from industrial accidents or activities could resemble fine snow but is composed of hazardous materials.

5. Salt or Mineral Particles: In coastal or salt-rich environments, wind-blown salt particles can settle and give the illusion of a snow-like substance.

If there's an ongoing investigation or specific location tied to the "snow" in question, it might be worth consulting local environmental agencies for clarification or updates.
Number 2 or 3 would seem likely to me. It’s been reported over 3-4 states I believe

Could be, plus some of the other causes could be involved even though they lack the chemical smell, but be conflated as the same thing due to the mass publicity.

Finally a serious reply.
