Mrs Brown's Boys Voted Best Sitcom of 21st Century

Modern Family started well but got mediocre pretty quickly.
To each his own, I find the writing and acting in that show way more mature and intelligent than anything else. Both Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet are wonderful actors, and it isn't a coincidence that they have been awarded for the same multiple times.

I absolutely loved the last 2-3 seasons. The rewatch value is enormous. Can't wait for the new season to begin (a month to go).

All good, each to their own. For me, the moment the kids started growing up it went to sh1t. In the real world they started demanding higher salaries and screen time and it's lost it's way ever since.

Especially in that Cam & Mitchell are now just clichéd gay parents to one of the most annoying kids on tv.

I will say that all of the fringe characters are gold when they're featured. Sal, Javier, Gil etc.

Also, the almost subtle in-jokes are never not funny. The stairs, Phil and black women, Mitchell and 'Shame' etc.

But it started out as something enjoyably special, now it's just another average thing on tv for me.

Two things.

1) Mrs Brown's Boys is one of the worst things to be committed to television and I am in no way surprised to find out @The Black Pearl likes it.

2) The IT Crowd should not be in the top 5.

The IT Crowd is one of the few sitcoms with the whole audience laughter, etc. that genuinely makes me laugh out loud. The characters are great, especially Chris Morris in the first couple of seasons.

It's between Peep Show, The Thick of It, The IT Crowd, The Office and The Inbetweeners for me. I really liked the Mighty Boosh too, but it perhaps got a bit too surreal for its own good at times.

Kid Luke was definitely funnier, sure. Grown up Luke is cool but kid Luke was batshit crazy.

I can probably agree about the kids part I guess, and that's coming from possibly the biggest fanboi of the show. :D
I don't quite care about the stupid love life of Haley that they have started showing or Alex's college life. That part isn't very interesting.

I mainly enjoy the big three - Ty, Eric and Ed. All of them are near flawless in all of their parts and just perform everything beyond the level of acting you'd expect. Eric, specially has gone from strength to strength and carries out the most difficult parts effortlessly. And some of the scenes are just extra ordinary writing - e.g. the one where Jay can't make it to an Irish Pub in The Storm episode to remember his navy buddy who passed away as a part of the tradition and Phil allows him to get his closure at the end. The whole things, the background silence, with the two characters and their history, one of the most heartwarming things I've seen on TV. So many layers to that couple of minutes sequence.

But yea those three are mainly more than worth the watch. The writing with them especially is still absolutely top notch.

That storyline of that episode was perfect. Many episodes have great storylines and are super enjoyable. I just feel that every 30 minute episode has at least 10 minutes of fluff in there that's all been done before. I've watched every episode and will continue to, but I don't look forward to it anymore sadly.

Jay and Phil are two of the finest characters to have been created for the screen. It's frustrating that an ensemble cast and a whole load of Hollywood agent nonsense reins in the amount that they can be used.

9. Raised by Wolves
I can only assume that 13999 of the 14000 people who voted are journo friends of Caitlin Moran.

Peep Show>
Peter Kay's Car Share
Count Arthur Strong
The Thick of It
Miranda
Raised by Wolves
Outnumbered
Bad Education
Yonderland
Twenty Twelve/W1A
Detectorists
These are the ones I've never watched. Does anyone know if any are worth a watch?

Surely the US office isn't actually better than the original though, and its four main characters? I've only seen bits and pieces of it, it seems a perfectly decent sitcom, but the Gervais/ Merchant show was one of the best pieces of television ever written.
I'd definitely recommend the show. The first 3 seasons are some of my favourite seasons of a sitcom.
My nan and grandad die for that show. Cant stand it.
I wouldn't say they'd die for it, but my grandparents love it, too.

Surely we all agree Peep Show should have won this.

If you can't handle it, you can just... you know, f**k off.

Pleasantly surprised to see The Thick Of It so high. It got what, just under a million at it's peak? Easily the best in that list for me.

Peep show, IT Crowd, and The Office should be top 3 you chicken dick

Car Share is a good watch. Really well written story of two people getting closer. Worth noting that calling it 'Peter Kay's Car Share' was really just for attention. It wasn't his original idea, so whilst he co-stars don't expect it to remind you of his writing too much.

I really liked the Mighty Boosh too, but it perhaps got a bit too surreal for its own good at times.

Very good shout. Could easily make it into the top 10 of my generation but the older lot never got it, in my experience anyway.

Phoenix Nights is underrated on that list, probably because it's not been on for a while. Always thought it was hilarious

Best for me is one of Peep Show, Black Books or The Thick of It.

Quite liked Saxondale too

I always thought it tried to hard to surreal and it annoyed me. I like Noel Fielding generally though.

I loved that they obviously came up with the weirdest/stupidest thing possible and then went "yep, let's do that then" and it somehow made it to tv. That it makes you go "wtf?" while laughing and shaking your head was something totally different to what I'd come across before. They got the balance right of weird/silly/funny/clever/cheap for me.
I might have to dig out my old DVDs and watch through again :D
