Moyes' first signing?

I'd be disappointed if he went back to raid Everton for players. Sure there's a couple that could strengthen our squad - especially Baines or Fellaini but why destroy a team you've done so much to build when you have the whole wide world of players available to you especially with the name of Manchester United behind you.

He has to make one statement signing though to put his imprint on the team. He seems to be especially good at identifying midfield playmakers/goalscorers so maybe that's where he'll make his big signing.

I think the club will want to make a marquee signing. So I'm going for his first signing to be one from; Ronaldo, Falcao, Lewendowski.

I also think we will make a couple of more critical signings i.e. a combative and physical center mid along with a couple of refreshers.

Sad thing is I think Rooney is going to be the head that falls, i know some say good riddance and to be fair with some of his behavior i'm inclined to agree, but i still think the best of him is yet to come,

I don't think it'll be a marquee signing at all. I think it's going to be the equivalent of when we signed Valencia after selling Ronaldo.

Everyone expected the bank to be broken for some mega star and instead we bought sensibly.

Moyes isn't going to be a muppets wet dream that's for sure.

get out! Let me be a muppet

:nono:

I wonder how much of it is down to Moyes? Will he choose whoever the hell he wants or will he pick from players our scouting team have been monitoring for a while? I was under the impression that we tend to have targets in mind for areas we need to strengthen for a while in advance, so will Moyes just follow the lead of whatever we were already planning?
Moyes should make everyone at the club know that he's now the new sheriff in town, he should have as much say as them in the matter and really needs to make himself known or else if he chickens out then hes screwed.

How much will it affect that Moyes is in charge now rather than SAF? SAF had such a pull. There's plenty of money and club prestige to throw at a player but I can't help but wonder if this will affect some future purchases, particularly the young British talent.

Hopefully not Fellaini. I wouldn't be over joyed with Baines either, Evra has had a good season.

Evra is 31-32. At some point he's going to need replacing and Baines would be a decent option to have mate.

Baines would be a good replacement for Evra. Neither can defend.

If Rooney actually leaves, which I personally don't think he will, then I think he would have to look to sign up his replacement, which sounds like it could be Lewandowski. Hopefully he will finally address the midfield issue too, but not by buying one of his old players.

I wouldn't be too adverse to signing Baines but ousting a very popular member of the squad and our vice captain from the first team may not be the best start, even if we would be a better team for it.

Strootman is my pick simply because I really want to see it happen.

We may not need another forward if he goes given Kagawa will surely look to be played more centrally.

I said it another thread, but straight-up replacing Evra with Baines just sounds like a terrible idea to me. Baines is only 3 years younger, so not exactly a long term replacement. Evra has a huge winning mentality and a massive love for the club. Alot of our players have lauded his drive and passion, which is probably what makes him our captain. Technically vice captain, but he's captained our team more than anyone over the last 2 or 3 years. He's a tough lad, never seems to get injured, and when he does he seems to run it off. His experience just can't be bought. He's played in massive games, 3 Champions League finals. He's an excellent leader and a hugely important player for us. Baines is good, but he doesn't have Evra's winning experience, and I don't think he's as quick, nor is he as good a dribbler. Overall, I think Evra is the better player in just about every department except for dead ball situations, though I've never seen Pat take a free kick anyway. Baines will be pricey, and with Evra, Fabio and Buttner, it would be a luxury acquisition.

Midfield first. Replace players who leave. Everything else is a bonus

This is true, and it seems to be a decision a lot of people on here are pushing to happen. It will be interesting to see what formation Moyes prefers in the end. I really prefer us playing 2 men up top rather than the lone striker, we've done it a lot this season and we don't really look the same force as before. We all thought the prospect of RvP and Rooney up top would be devastating, but it really hasn't lived up to expectations. But if someone of Rooney's calibre goes, we must look to buy someone near or equal to his abilities to accommodate for the loss, even if it means a big signing on the wing like Bale. We can't make the same mistake we did when we sold Ronaldo

Jesus, I wish people would stop mentioning Everton players. None of them, not a single one, is even remotely close to being United quality. They are all at their level.

Baines is good enough, only problem is his age. For the money we'd spend on him we'd want someone more than three years younger than Evra.

Fellaini I definitely don't want. Barkley maybe? I've heard good things about him from Everton fans. That's it really.

I don't think it will effect our chances with British players, but I think our chances of landing continental quality will drop significantly until he's proven he can do the job and makes a name outside of our shores.

Why does Leighton Baines name keep getting mentioned? We have two backup left backs, both younger and with potentially high ceilings, who cant get enough games as it is. Do people forget that Evra plays every single match?

I didn't know Moyes was that hot on Moutinho, if that is true then I can see him being our first signing.

I think it matters how you are approached. Ramsey was a very sought after player. How come he chose Arsenal? One thing he mentioned is how they showed how much they wanted him to join them. Wenger spoke to him at great length. Showed him the club and the facilities.
What did United do? Gary Neville gave him a tour of Old Trafford. SAF wasn't very much involved personally. If he were, that could have been a difference because you know that when he's personally seeing a player, that player is most likely joining us.

Lot of talk around the betting circles in the City tonight that we will make a huge signing before the end of the month. Aleady done, and waiting for the right moment to announce it.

Fellaini.
