Moussa Dembele

Werner has never looked like the answer to me, especially for Germany. Their fall from the top table of International football is largely because they lack a number 9. Too small. You've got to be Aguero to be that size and play down the middle on your own. He's not that.
Werner might not be good enough to be an elite level striker (a discussion for another time) but being too small? He’s 5’11.

That's what they all say until you slap the cash in front of them.

That's nonsense, keep in mind that their only purpose is to be competitive, they have no use for money. A club like Lyon always sell on their own terms and plan them in advance because they can't replace players on the fly.

How is it nonsense? Many clubs say their players aren't for sale only to sell them. Maguire is a good example.

It's nonsense because you are talking about Lyon, not many clubs and you are talking about selling a player when it doesn't suit them. I didn't say that he would never be for sale but that he wasn't for sale at that time, simply because they didn't plan to replace him and a club like Lyon needs time and preparation, the same thing happened with Ndombélé they told clubs that he wasn't for sale in 2018 but planned to sell him in 2019. That's how these clubs work, they are not supermarket, you don't just pick a player and go to the register.

And Leicester let it known that Maguire was available at their price, not that he wasn't available.

Lyon is a selling club, if you're ready to line up Maguire-level money any of their players will go unless it's really too late in the window to find a replacement.

Which is literally my point. Even if you come up with a big offer, they will only sell if they can replace the player with someone suitable financially and on the field. With Lyon it's fairly simple, you come early and you have a big chance to get the player but it will still cost you a lot. If you come late, you are getting nothing.

Quoted at 80m ( daily mail )
Silly money.
Dembele's good enough to do a job in the PL (upper mid-table) while Greenwood develops; he's not good enough to win major honours. If we're looking for players good enough to do a job we could buy Mertens, 32 and at the end of his contract for £20m or less. Buying Mertens also allows us to fix the RW and midfielder issues; because it leaves more money for other positions United are weak in.
No way should United be spending more than £40m on players who aren't PL winning material.

The youtube video I saw of him, advertising him as a "worldie", makes him look good - playing against 2nd rate defenders. Even beating a goalie to a cross! Rashford and Martial will do at least as good against weak opposition like that.

Think you’ve mentioned this before that Lyon don’t need to sell unless they get a deal that suits them. In short they aren’t a poor club

Exactly, they are a selling club in the sense that eventually they will sell their players mainly because they have no intention to match massive wages that exist in other leagues. But they don't need to sell players in order to survive, they need to be competitive though, they need to be in Europe every year, that's what allows them to be competitive.

Just seen £71m mentioned for him! He's not prolific, has no premiership experience so might no make it over here. They want more than twice what he's worth; and 3½ times what they paid. Mugs if United buy him.

I think he would be a good signing for us. I don't think the price would be as high as some sources are quoting either, can see Lyon accepting £40-50m.

Woodward would start at 30million then, and would take the whole month to sign, and eventually agreeing to pay the full amount.

6 goals in 7 starts is pretty good tbh.

He has premiership experience, played for Fulham. (was young)

Has played in the CL plenty of times for Celtic and Lyon.

It would be a very surprising fee, I would add at least 10m on it.

Odsonne Edouard from Celtic makes more sense. Get him for about 20million. Nine goals in 4 games for France under 21s.

I like Dembele! He reminds me of Saha - at the time we bought Saha, nobody was gushing about him but he really suited our style of play by playing on the shoulder of the last defender and stretching the pitch - gave us what we need which could be the same with Dembele. I'd advocate us buying both Dembele's (not the 3rd one that used to play at Spurs!).

I would absolutely be taking a punt on Odsonne Edouard. I get to see him a lot playing for Celtic and I think he is quality, by far the best player in the league up here. He's fast, holds the ball up well, can beat a man, can up top by himself and bring others into play, presses from the front. I would be very happy to see us take a chance on him.

This 100%. A better player who'd surely cost a fraction of the £80m.

So we sell Lukaku she buy him back 3 months later. Makes total sense.

Stay away from this lad.. makes no sense to what we would be trying to achieve. Unless we are trying to continue with this park the bus football.

He’s nothing like lukaku

The dembele at Celtic and the one from Barca will do! 3 dembeles in attack could certainly confuse some defences

I'd much rather we buy Osimhen. In my view the most exciting attacking talent since Mbappe.

Not ''established' enough I guess. This Dembele doesn't really seem to be very highly rated. No idea why were are linked with anybody better if hes not all that.

He could be more willing to come off the bench than Lukaku would, which is better for the dressing room, and his wages would be smaller. I've always liked Dembele because he was the one striker I felt was better than James Wilson during Wilson's youth days.

As for his senior ability, he virtually mirrors Lacazette's goal scoring record at the same age. I think that's a good sign.

You can always debate whether a player is good enough or not - but imo it's a bit harsh to call a 23 year-old not prolific, when he has scored almost 100 goals in a bit over 200 matches.

I just watched this guy, Odsonne Edouard and he looks even better than M Dembele. The guy's finishing is good and is a fox in the box. For 35m, I think he would be a great buy. But I don't see our board going after a 21 year old striker when we've got Rashford at 21, Greenwood at 17 and Martial at 23.

I doubt Dembele would ever top the goalscoring charts in the Prem, but he’s a good finisher who can score all different type of goals.

He’s also a physical handful for defenders, so would offer a physical presence in the box, and therefore another way to score goals other than just counter attacking, and also a decent focal point for the attack, which the likes of Rashford, Martial, and James can thrive off in the space he could create.

Looking at his goal record, age, and physical attributes, he would be a good signing IMO.

Linked again to him AND Haaland but obviously we aren’t going to sign both. So who would you take?

Haaland for me

Both seem far below the level of players you should try to recruit, and I don't think they would be an improvement on what you have (Martial, Rashford).
Dembele is far from ready, he would be a huge downgrade compared to Lukaku.

I’m not sure about Dembele but I believe that Haaland would be a monster in the PL once he got established

I think we'll go for Haaland, Solskjaer already knows all about the player and had a lot of trust in him so you'd think he'd go for him. Saying that though, competition for Haaland's signature will be fierce and I don't know if we'd be his ideal first choice.

Haland for me. He's absolutely massive and rapid.

Dembele is a great player though.
