Mourinho's post match comments

Can't tell you how much confidence that has given me in Jose, if he was going to come out and praise that performance I was ready to throw the towel in. He is working on the right things in training it seems, he wants to attack and play quicker in the final third but today he saw the players hiding and that is a major issue.

Wouldn't mind him bringing in a new attacking coach but think he would be too proud for that..

Taking all things into account, I think I side fully with him on that one. I imagine the fanbase will be split though. It won't change anyone's mind. Whoever was against him before will hold this against him too.

I actually agree with him tonight. The players will know if that's what they've actually worked on, and if they have they can't deny that it went to pot.

I've said a good few times that, a team with Chris Smalling in the centre of defence will always struggle to play out from the back. Bailly also isn't faultless here I must add, although he is better than Smalling in that regard.

Four consistent years we've had a number of similar performances. We've always blamed the manager. I've always felt that the issue is deeper.

I think he'll include the defence in that to be honest. He said when you haven't even got 6/7 wanting the ball. So if you count Lukaku, Matic, McTominay and Romero that means you only have 1 more he classed as playing how he wants.

I wouldn't really disagree with him. Mata and Martial had ok first halves, but Martial especially struggled second half.
 
Bailly is our best defender by a distance although Smalling done pretty well tonight.

How does either of them start to step out like Franz Beckenbauer when McT & Matic are already stood in that area, bit congested innit? Not that either could, but just talking theoretically.

That's a low-block of 4 who hardly go anywhere - that's down to the Manager & his favoured formation.

Sadly, most are already against him, as they all wanted one tiny excuse to vent their anger at him. "He's on the brink", "He's losing it like he did at Chelsea, will be gone soon". I think most already have their minds made up.

Criticize him for Sevilla, he deserves every bit of it, but so far he has done nothing that is a sackable offense. The football is not earth-shattering, but neither is it LvGesque levels of dull bar some recent games when you take the entire season into perspective. I am sure we would be better to watch with better FBs. Speaking of which, he's got us into a semi-final again, after winning 2 trophies last season, with the likes of Young and Valencia as FBs. While they aren't the top prizes, we have to give him some time, or atleast one more season, considering how he's maintained our trophy winning form.

Spent majority of the second half trying to knit things together trying to be the number 10 because we were creating absolutely feck all. You have to feel for some of them.

He is at least as much to blame as the players. His tactics are negative, there is a willingness to let opposition have the ball without any pressure and lack of creativity and movement going forward.
 
So is he saying 'I practice attacking, fast moving, player interchanging football all the time, but the players choose to defend deep, full backs choose not to overlap the wingers, and the midfield choose not to support the striker.' Think im going insane!

Fair enough, Martial, Shaw, Mata and possibly even Lingard & McTominay should be doing more to stake their claim. Lingard and McTominay at least showed a bit of heart at times.
 
Are the players not wanting to play for him anymore, or what’s happening at our club?

Both the players and manager needs to take responsibility but the buck, ultimately, stops with the manager.

He’s had ample time to sort it out and some of the class players he himself has bought - Sanchez and Pogba seem out of sorts. So it’s not just an “inherited” issue from previous managers...
 
Jose thinks he’s smart. He’s left Pogba and Sanchez out then goes on to criticise the team. He didn’t even take Martial off after the 75mark as he normally does coz the game was won, so that gave him opportunity to blast players knowing the so ‘egotistical ‘ ones won’t take offence coz they weren’t involved. Coward !! Luke shaw was singled out when Sanchez and Pogba have been rubbish.

The first club ever to back the manager over the players? Don’t be daft. That was a given under Ferguson and it worked out ok for us.
 
You can't tell me that consistently dropping players who play well doesn't damage their confidence and their performances.

Ever thought he might be trying some tough love? Light a fire underneath them.

Everyone’s pissed off with the performances but when he does something about it he gets shit from fans.

At the end of the day, tactics don’t mean a huge deal when players are misplacing 10 yard passes and not bothering to track the player they should be marking.

What fear will it put in them? They don't have to threaten a move. Pogba is on 300k p/w with 3 or 4 years remaining. Sanchez is on 500k p/w with over 4 years remaining. Maybe they're happy just collecting the pay checks without performing. I dunno...
 
I mean, the performance wasn't so good and players should take some responsibility. But, it's also obvious at this point he is struggling to create a fluid attacking system, so I can't see this as a one-way street as he is making it sound.

Maybe its the type of managers we are hiring. All three of them were questionable appointments in regards to playing the type of football we're accustomed to. And all three of them are also pig headed. It's always someone elses fault.

It wont work with these players. He can try out whatever he wants if it brings success and good football, but i doubt they will respond to his current methods. Today wasnt a great response to his presser before the game.

Did you miss all his quotes? He’s saying he trained them for attacking play and most are hiding. So they’re not doing his tactics.
He does have a point, but alienating half the squad is going to see him out on his arse.
 
Jesus, that last tweet. If that doesn't get a response from the players they have no hope.

Fine, the ones that don’t respond are our the door. That’s the way it should be, people want a return to Fergies methods, that’s how Fergie ran the club. His way or the highway.
 
I realize that some posters won't like it but while you can blame the players based on Mourinho's impression, it's also a sign that Mourinho for some reason doesn't have the management skills to get players behind him and behind his project. If his words are true, then we probably need to get rid of the worst players and the coaching staff. Basically a reboot.

Doubt they are happy with the bench. Pogba's the type of player who has ambitions to be in the spotlight for his performances (in a good way as opposed to now!). Sanchez is a hard worker who hates missing games.

EDIT: Mourinho' s comments are good. He said we weren't playing well, so acknowledges need for change. We have been seeing these type of lethargic performances for 3 years, time to change that.

And he knows at this club, player power has no weight when Ed's backing him. Down tools, get sold in the summer. Smart.
 
Quite a damming post match from Mourinho. I think he expected a better performance from the team and was sad he didn't get one and rightfully so. These are well paid professional players. Would asking to put a good shift in too much to ask? Fecking hate this prima donnas.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if he starts booing them during next game, the way this is going.
