Mourinho's post match comments

Off topic but do you recon MotD would be gushing over the shots on goal stats if United just took a touch and then blasted it towards goal with zero chance of scoring for 90 minutes.

The 45!!!! shots on goal by Sevilla was a tad silly really when only about 9 were on target over both ties.

United were still shite no denying, but stats are pointless apart from the final score.

Sir Alex very rarely made it about himself but then again he didn't have any need to prove himself - he had a sense of security that Mourinho's never had. That's both an internal and external thing. All of the other ridiculousness - blindly biased comments, attacking the other, claiming it's all going against us - was there, but they rarely lingered or lead to repeated personal wars. Mourinho personalises everything.

Yeah, Fergie had his fights with the press, but I remember more often than not, just "we'll bounce back" comment, especially when the team played badly which was put half through anger, half through determination.

I definitely think that whole Jose media handling and mind games are overrated. He seems to me as a little bit insecure as you say and someone who cares a lot what other thinks or writes. The thing is that he is a pretty successful manager and it's easier to be aggressive from that position of "power".
But, when everything doesn't go his way, and in last few years it didn't, I'm not convinced he handles it all so well.

Doesn't really matter what he said as we just signed him up to a new contract and he's the one who signed a number of players who flopped. It's a no win situation for the club.

We sack him it costs us a fortune and we lose face in Europe again. Keep him and get rid of young, fellaini, Shaw and buy in some quality and then we'll see...only option really but I'm not liking him at the moment

In the context of events it was a stupid thing to come out with. It lacked class and it certainly lacked any kind of tact. But that's Jose's personality unfortunately, not that I am condoning it.

It got me extremely angry and I wonder what the club's hierarchy made of it all, I really do.

I disagree with the "we lose face in Europe".... Not seen anyone in the French media defend him, the Spanish media just ripped him a new one, the Dutch clearly have a problem with him, will Bayern touch him with a stick?

If anything Mourinho should be grateful we were stupid or desperate enough to hire a time-bomb of a manager. Barring a brain-dead from PSG's owners, I have to ask what top club would hire him today?
Juve because they have fond memories of his time in Italy? I doubt it.

Isn’t anyone who likes football a man child? It’s men chasing a bag of wind around at the end of the day.

I’m still hurting after last nights match, the comments just seemed to rub salt in the wounds. It’s put a real downer on everything that’s come before it this season for me

Don't give a shite about him or his comments.
The football needs to improve.

Maybe but there is more to football than kicking a bag of wind around - history, cultures, identity etc so it's not completely pointless. What happened yesterday had nothing to do with any of that but was a collective of man children shitting their brains out all over the internet and air waves. And granted I image these angry red faced potatoes care more about United then I do but the biggest England fans are the ones who play trumpets in the stands and you know what they are fecking annoying.

This! He can insult my mum after winning the Champions league if he wants! Get the stuff on the pitch sorted out!

Couldn't care less what he said to be honest. It's a response to a "major" defeat which Jose never did well with.

What he said may upset some people, it doesn't sound good I'll admit, but is it not right that we've been dumped out of the group stage of the CL by Basel under Fergie? Is it not right that Bilbao knocked us out of the Europa League also under him in a much more humiliating defeat? We all know the guy can be a c*nt at times, this is one of those times.

He needs to sort it out to get the best out of his players but I don't think firing managers once things turn sour is going to solve everything.

Nice edit of your original post to look like I brought up the man child comment.

Must learn to quote

I was so sad with the result last night. Getting abuse from the colleagues at work the next day isn’t very pleasing. Just shocked even before the game started when I saw Mourinho in an Interview saying over the last two decades we can’t consider ourselves to be that successful in Europe. I thought that was odd.

Then after the defeat which I do agree tactics were wrong but we still had 11 players on that field who shouldn’t need to be handheld during the game to actually get a result, Mourinho says he knocked us out with a few of his previous employers and that we should essentially be used to getting knocked out.

The guys we had on the pitch should be enough to beat these guys and then some but now I’m starting to believe Mou isn’t helping himself with his behaviour. I’m not calling for the manager to go and I know for a fact he isn’t going to alter his tactics to suit our needs. Pretty much at a loss to expect anything other than we will stick with him and let’s just see what happens. So upset with the performance last night.

That's true. We all laugh at Klopp, but I feel that Mou is even worse.
While Sir Alex had more witty, and widely recognized to be actually friendly with many other managers.

Jose hit the nail on the head and thats exactly why hes at united, to try and stop us getting knocked out of europes elite not play boring football against an average spanish side. Liverpool spurs or even chelsea would have destroyed sevilla because they wouldnt sot there and play tactics that you would use against barca

Miss that.

Edit: Not the score line but brutal honesty from our Manager when needed.

Not good enough. We have a manager who was 5 yrs past his sell by date when we recruited him.

Not sure if this has been discussed already. He seemed to suggest that Jose came up with those comments to take the attention off the players. Also, Jose knew he was wrong.

See link to the official ranking of clubs in European competitions.
http://www.ecaeurope.com/tabbed-content/club-ranking/
Seville are 8th, that is above ALL English clubs. United rank 15th.
Except for two instances in the late 90s and late 00s , United have never ranked in Europe above the usual 'big' clubs of Spain, Italy and Germany. It is a fallacy to believe so, and does no favours to the current players or manager.
Some humility from fellow United fans would be good.

Sevilla are ranked 8th because of those consecutive Europa wins not because they are any good right now.

The Sevilla team that we treated like prime Madrid or Barcelona has conceded 5 goals in a game on 5 occasions this season. In La Liga on 1 team in top 10 has scored less goals than Sevilla, of the 20 La Liga teams only 5 have conceded more.

This was a team that we could have smashed if mourinho had the balls to attack them.

It's too late. The mob won't care about this. I for one, understand what he's done here, and could care less about his comments.

He's trying to turn into the ultimate players coach, and seems weary about how the players turned on him at Chelsea.

Keep moving forward Mou.

So why doesn't he just come out and say it was his fault and take responsbility instead of trying to deflect it to some other thing? It's because he has too much pride and probably doesn't actually care enough or has awareness to really 'accept' it. By trying to take away attention he's still leaving his players open to criticism. It's just another half arsed measure and side-stepping, 'genuis' man management he thinks he is doing but is mostly back dated methods.

I've come to realise now that as a player all you need to do is gain and get Mourinho's trust. After that you WILL get games and minutes despite how inconsistent you are on the pitch as long as you're making an 'effort' on it. He doesn't really care about the footballing intelligence or ability as so much the mentality (which is important mind) to be 'strong' on the pitch.

It can only explain the constant inclusion of players like Young, Zlatan (at times last year), Pogba, Darmian, Smalling, Fellani etc.

The only manager in the world that can get his talented team to fight like warriors every game with the charisma, tactics and man management to boot is Simone. It's unfortunate to say but Mourinho has shown to be nothing but one dimensional in his managing of Utd. Minimal risk by playing the lowest common denominator and actually taking no responsbility himself.

You do realise that United's 15th position is only due to last year's Europa win. Without that United may not even be in the top 20. And just because United beat Ajax etc doesn't mean they are any good right now!
Seville are an excellent cup team, they do not prioritise league results. They are in the Copa final again.
They rank alongside Liverpool and Roma in the last 8 teams. Liverpool could not beat them this season. Clearly these 3 are not as good as the top five. The same would have been true if United had qualified. But in a cup competition anything is possible, and Seville have the track record.

Pogba is not a good example, he exhibits the opposite of strong mentality.

 What a horseshit, if he wanted to deflect shit storm on himself, he could do it on so many ways

The ranking are based on how teams did in Europe in past and not on how actually good teams are.

By your logic if city are to face Sevilla then Sevilla should win or atleast compete very well but in actual real world city will smash Sevilla out of the park.

Liverpool couldn't beat Sevilla because try as they might they can't defend well. Not because Sevilla are a great team. Likes of spartak Moscow and eibar have scored 5 past them, if you think we are not good enough to be better than even those teams then mourinho is right we are shit and used to mediocrity and it isn't his fault.

I think JM tried to say that even SAF as the greatest manager in United history have failed to go to the next round.

Its an insult to SAF really cause He forgot that under SAF we played and tried to win the game rather than to try not to concede a goal first tactic.

Huddersfield 2 Manchester United 1

Same words... we need to improve, to give more...

Blah blah blah

I have no problem at what he said. Was he saying that defeat is normal for us? No. He said it's not the end of the world i.e. it's not the worst thing ever. Something being not the worst thing ever is not the same as it being normal. Second issue: why did he bring up Porto and Real Madrid? Was he putting himself above the club? No. He only brought up those two times because it is more natural and more true to bring up things in which he was personally involved.

A lot of fans have said Jose has taken the defeat badly but I think it's the fans themselves that have taken the defeat badly and have allowed their emotion on the matter to completely misconstrue what he has said. Jose's attitude of basically, "On to Cincinnati," seems quite a strong, healthy response.

Very shocking statement indeed. When he says "this club" instead of my club, it makes him sound and look like a mercenary.

Not good enough. We have a manager who was 5 yrs past his sell by date when we recruited him.
Pretty much.Even when he was at the height of his managerial powers I didn’t regard him as a United manager.
Didn’t want him when SAF left, didn’t want him after Moyes or LVG and don’t want him now.
I’m not sure he wants to be at United either, does he strike you as someone who is happy at his work?

I don't think he meant it the way a lot of people are taking it.

"this stuff happens. It's happened before and it happened today."

That's all. He's not saying, haha feck United or haha I knocked out United again. Might be lost in translation paired with the cocky demeanor he usually sports when he just lost a big game.

Don't like the guy, but this is not a dig at United if you ask me.

Already side, but you know what your getting when you employ him. There are no surprises. That said, I think he knows that 50% of that team isn't good enough.
