OK, we perhaps just disagree on the definition of conflict of interest then. As an example, I volunteer on the board of governors at our local school. I would be legally obliged to declare a potential conflict of interest if we considered giving a contract to some business, say for building works, if I was family, close friends of had a business relationship with one of the suppliers who was tendering for the work. That would mean I would be excluded from any selection processes and negotiations when the board of governors decided which company to award the work to.

For me the Jose / Mendes situation is the same - Jose would have to declare a potential conflict of interest and rule himself out of player purchases, because of his business relationship and existing close relationship with Mendes. I think i now understand what you were saying before, that conflict could occur between any manager and any agent they were personal friends with? In which case I'd say the same thing, they should declare a potential conflict of interest then too.

Yeah, it would be good, but I can't help but see a summer of the usual United protracted transfers ahead.

The BB is a smartphone. Technically the president is not allowed to use smartphones but they made some sort of exception for Obama since the BB has special security/encryption capabilities.
 
Wouldn't surprise me if Jose has been thinking about this all year and already has all the specific players he wants lined up to be bought.

I'm quite sure this is the case. He will have been watching our games and thinking about the changes that need making.

Which is helpful... and why I don't entirely understand those who think we should've sacked LVG in January.

Pretty much - he's probably been scouting players and plotting who he wants to add and who he wants to get rid off. I think everyone bar Martial and De Gea are going to be looked at very closely.

Excellent news. Press conference on Friday, then? Given that the Champions League final is on this weekend.

Or maybe Monday to get more press coverage out of it.
