People panicking at this are stupid, united will find a way around it or pay chelsea some money. They wont let this deal be jepordized by some image right problem.
At worst we will Pay amount close to 500kto 1 million to chelsea. Such amount is peanuts for us. We can either make him but his image rights from chelsea or buy them off for him. These are nothing ourlegal team cant resolve

We can take it out of the Jon Obi Mikel Comedy Fund.

Some of you guys might know better than me, but when Cantona retired didn't he have some small dispute with United and they rather quickly had to stop selling products with his name on?

I'm surprised if ™ hadn't sorted this out a while ago.

Coincidentally there was a report only a few days ago about him recently settling a Spanish tax dispute about image rights while he was at Real Madrid.

Seems like chelsea have some products patented with Mourinho's name on it that are protected for quite some time (possibly renewed when he signed on for his second tenure). Also read they had his written personal consent to get the patents approved.

So I think this no normal image rights negotiation. I think Chelsea forfeited the general image rights probably when they firred him but might still have the rights for the specific products they patented under his trademark. If our commercial department would like to commercialise some of these they will need to buy patents from Chelsea.

Edit: seems they don't anymore

They have registered with the EU intellectual property office - sounds like yet another excellent reason to support Brexit next month :D

I would say a rather bad reason to leave rhe EU. If Britain leaves the EU, isn't it possible that UK football teams could be kicked out of EUFA? Imagine that.

Even so, I'd have expected Chelsea's shop to have dumped all that stuff in a clearance sale by now.

UEFA has nothing to do with the EU...

Europe is not synonym to the EU

Switzerland also isn't a part of the EU but they are part of UEFA and the teams from their domestic competitions can enter in UEFA organized tournaments like the CL and EL

No. You may notice that Iceland, Turkey, Russia etc are in UEFA but not the EU.

But i was taking the piss and not trying to argue the point. Supect the mods wouldnt appreciate such a conversation lol

I saw an odd tweet from a sky journalist earlier that said United don't intend to hold a press conference unless Jose specifically asks for one. I hope that runour is wrong, I have been looking foreard to thst presser all week

Goddamn. I only got promoted two days ago.

Ah well, in for a penny in for a pound.

Anyone want to buy any Jose Mourinho branded merchandise?

Not to worry the UK teams will be able to play teams from the countries they have arranged these super trade deals with , namely Greenland, Antarctica and Tuvalu

They haven't commercialised all those products, they just have patented the rights to do so

There were products like Mourinho perfume, Mourinho smart cards, Mourinho nappies, a list of over 200 items. If you look in the chelsea megastore, they have some items on there like a book, a figurine , a mug and smartphone case that are all sold at serious discounts. But I imagine if the club wanted to commercialise their own mourinho products that conflicted with the trademarks they would be guility of copywright infringement.

They either bought out the rights or they had them declared void at some court, I can imagine there be legal ground for that since Chelsea firred mourinho and all that

Jose will be paid up to 12m a year. LVG was paid up to 8.

Nice job if you can get it - and if you do a bad job you still get a massive pay off!

Like some guy said in this thread. They're sat in a room asking each other how long do we need to wait before signing him so it doesn't look like this was all agreed months ago.
Either that or,

"How much long do you think we can feck with Sky and the BBC?"

"They had a guy outside my house the last few days, useless tossers...."
