Mourinho to United | Officially Announced

I find some of the views from folk on how this has been handled quite puzzling.

Did LVG have a problem speaking to Utd months before he replaced Moyes? No.

Was it crass to ask him just after winning the cup? Yes.

Point is, he's not been treated any differently than any other manager in the same position. He got given more time than he would have got at any other club given the same performances and results.

I'm in no doubt that he's known about this for some time. He knows how it works having been approached to take the job in the first place in similar circumstances. We may not like it, but that's football now. Utd are no different.

Morality police out in force.

I was so disillusioned by his playing style over the last 2 seasons I'd have not cared a jot had he not been given an opportunity to walk out with the team yesterday. I don't personally care even if Mourinho did leak the news. We get to know most transfers and managerial appointments whilst other managers are still in charge. United are no different.

Completely agree, Sultan. However, I don't really think the Mendes camp is behind it. What do they stand to gain from it? The deal has been done for ages.

If that's what he actually said then that's that isn't it?

We won the FA Cup and got Mourinho. I do think we will look back on the LVG period fondly in the future, through all the frustration and bollocks LVG was often humorous and crazy, he also got rid of the post-SAF trophy monkey on our back and did it by playing talented youngsters who will form a solid foundation for the coming years. Thanks for the Cup, Louis.

Jose didn't seem to be one to have the leak though. Look at his Sky interview. He spent it praising Van Gaal and refused to entertain the rumours.

ESPN also stating that Van Gaal already knew about this. It's the fans who didn't. It's not like the Moyes situation when he found through the media
I'm not saying Jose leaked it either.

Of course LvG knew it beforehand (as well as most straight thinking fans). What he wouldn't know is that it would get leaked in that manner, whilst still celebrating the win. If you don't see any problem with that, there isn't anything to debate.

Listen to Sky they are saying that Mandes has said that he believes Jose will be holding talks with the club. When he gave the interview Man Utd had probably told him how annoyed they were that this had broke and to say nothing else.

Sky are certain that the news came from Mendes and that the club have said nothing.

After a season of such disappointing, boring football and terrible results, we end up winning the FA cup AND finally getting a modern, world class manager and yet people are still arguing over pointless stuff. Who cares who leaked it? There is no way LvG didn't know he's gone.

The hell is wrong with this place sometimes? People have been complaining about LvG for ages, wanting him sacked since December. Now that it finally happened, people are going out in full force blaming Mourinho for leaking it, saying he's a twat and that the club is classless because...? Have everyone just forgot why we were complaining in the first place? Did we play well against freakin' Palace in the final or were we sh*t as usual, limping to the finish line? Does anyone remember LvG saying our expectations are too high? I mean it was almost a week ago now.

LvG has been absolutely awful, made some really strange remarks lately such as the above mentioned, and now people are throwing a fit when we finally get rid of the man at least I, have come to pretty much despise. I'm really excited about Mourinho and really happy we won the FA Cup, but this place sometimes... Some of you deserve another season with sh*t on a stick football. I mean, Pep, Conte, Klopp, Wenger, Poch and even Ranieri... One more season with LvG could have been a disaster. Just enjoy that we finally have a manager worthy of taking over after SAF. Oh and that we won the FA Cup. Who cares what the media reports by the way? We won, do you need to revel in the news on the internet to be able to fully appreciate that we won it? Bah.

Semi-rant over.

He's a human. Some of us aren't petulant cnuts. It's a form of entertainment for us, for him it's his life, career and dignity.

I'd rather he was allowed to leave without embarrassing him. He tried his best, it didn't work. It doesn't make him pond scum worthy of the same words and treatment rapist and murderers get.

Have a bit of humility.

I'm glad you're not resorting to exaggeration.

Sometimes I wonder if the Fergie's reign has created an alternate version of the football world in the heads of United fans.

There is always press speculation, breaking news etc when a managerial change takes place. Club press release rarely supersedes media announcement. Why does this raise no brows when it happens to other club, yet here we are throwing tantrums because it's United?

Falling out is ugly in all walks of life. Why should football, a notoriously shady business, be any different?

I don't like it being dragged up on the night of a cup win, although i sort of expected it. Think it would have been nice for the cup win to be the focus until tomorrow.

However I have no sympathy for LVG. It's karma for his comments about fan expectations, not to mention moaning about not getting his Galactico signings. And not forgetting he'll be about to net £5m or so in compensation.

He should have expected this though, and if he didn't it's only testament to his outrageous arrogance.

Having said that I like the guy and will remember him fondly for his celebration of Lingard's goal and dive against Arsenal.

Didn't we have some news about a week ago that basically said Mourinho would be coming whether we won or not, and would be announced shortly after the FA Cup final? I mean it's more confirmed now, but essentially this news has already been reported and well before the game

We've actually been more classy over this matter all along than most big clubs would ever have been.

I don't believe there was any leak yesterday. What I do believe is that a number of the decent media outlets already new about the deal but were probably asked by United, not to make it public until after the last game, sadly it looks like these media outlets took this literally.
Most probably this.
Everyone will whine about something anyway. If this news came out of BBC two days later, we would have two days of "FA Cup saved LVG, Ed is useless blah blah". Even then there will be some crying over how we didn't give it a full week and let the FA Cup victory settle down. News broke, live with it. LVG needs to go and Mourinho is one of the best managers around to replace him. I look forward to the team Mourinho will build for next season.

Yep, silence from the club and he kept his job to the end of the season. That's more than he'd have got anywhere else.

He's had a brilliant career, he was allowed to see out the season to win the cup and he'll get a windfall of 5m GBP despite doing a well below average job. I don't hate the man and I certainly don't want to see him suffer or get hurt, but I honestly don't think he can have any complaints.

I'm glad you're not resorting to exaggeration.

It's not far off. It's like his human rights have gone. Sympathy for losing his job? Allowed to leave with a shred of dignity in tact? Avoid the embarrassment of losing his job in the public eye before he has been told by his employers?

No fecking way. We only scored 40 goals this season and aren't in Europe and I was bored watching us. feck him. I want to see him embarrassed and his life fall to peices in public.

He got fired from a job he was a terrible at. Nothing to see here.

Your comparison with rapist and murderers is ridiculous.

Fair point.

When would you liked it released?

I really think the uncertainty was poisonous and I'm glad that is past.

Really? According to my sources we've been positively cackling with evil glee whilst twirling our oversized moustache as we forced LVG to run on a giant hamster wheel.

 Bugger off, Pexy, I'm not biting.

Jesus man, put the violin down.

Damm, at least give LVG the one night to celebrate the FA cup. Mendez/Mourhino must have issues with LVG if they release the information hours after the final.

The club probably briefed them not to release any information until the end of the season, which technically they did. Still totally classless though

My problem is not that it took the limelight off of LVG it's that Jose's camp have gone against the wishes of the club. A club he apparently wants to work for.
There was reports that if he came here it would be curtailing some of his personality that doesn't sit right with the club image. This disregard for what the club wants flies in the face of that.

Agreed.

This is why I find it rich of fans to complain about lack of loyalty in players and managers when they themselves treat failed 'products' like shit and discard them like used condoms. All a business relationship now.

I almost hope a few of our top players go behind our backs and let their agents arrange deals to better and sunnier places. See the outrage on here.

Again, it is far from certain that it came from Jose/Mendes. What do they stand to gain from it when the deal is just a few days from being announced anyway?

Seems we are still trying to copy City.
Last week was emptying the stadium.
This week announcing a new manager before we have sacked the present one. (even though it hasn't been announced yet)

Other sources are saying otherwise though.

This is the same Sky that said Mourinho was holding talks with PSG just a few weeks ago,and have Ballague on their payroll who said we were definitely sticking with Van Gaal.

Quite frankly,I don't trust them.

I'm honestly struggling with this place these days, the moaning, the crying, people are so sensitive it's unreal. How do some of you survive in the real world?

I'm certain Mourinho himself had nothing to do with the leak. He'll probably even admonish it at some point in his early press conferences.

Between Mendes and Mourinho's entourages though they are certainly in no short supply of self interested parties.

It could also easily have been someone not directly connected to either Mourinho or Mendes or the club. There will have been plenty of people who knew about it but had to keep quiet until the football was finished, particularly the likes of Adidas and other sponsors.

This has been common knowledge for months so did anyone really need to announce it? The press asked Mourinho about it and he didn't answer. Maybe nobody announced it... the press just went ahead with their bullshit as usual.

He keeps a pretty small squad himself.
The Chelsea team he won the league with year before last had very few players starting, didn't it?
Maybe but he will want top quality in all positions and in backup as well. We won't be seeing a bench crammed with kids again. Lingard and Rashford might be the only ones who feature. Martial obviously.

If he demonstrated any humility himself then people would return that favour. It's hard to feel sorry for someone so arrogant.
